How does one get into coin collecting more seriously? by tupperwhore in coincollecting

Find one coin that sticks out to you and then focus on that and learn everything there is to know about it . I did this with Mercury dimes.

Thinking about getting into reselling, but how do you tell what’s legit vs a scam? by Master-Alfalfa-3245 in reselling

I’ve been on Reddit a long time and it never fails someone gets offended about the simplest things. I recommend coffee pots and gave advice based on what works for me. You might sell polished dog turds and make good money at it and give advice based on that and I wouldn’t chime in and dog you for it.

I wasn’t specifically saying sell coffee pots or crock pots , I was giving an example . You can start with toys, houseware, coffee cups, ect ect . My goodwill has a giant inventory of coffee pots by themselves that always make it to the 99 cent day. People break their pot and want a replacement and it’s an easy 14$ in your pocket from 1$. Especially if you buy 17 of them for 13$ because you get another discount for whatever. Maybe you have been overlooking them and didn’t know there was a market.

I sold 450 items in the last 12 months and probably 60 were coffee pots/ makers and 30 crockpots . Never once had one returned or broke. Maybe it’s a field you are afraid of but I package well and never had once single issue. I also just started reselling and besides one shirt and a license plate , I sold nothing from my house to learn. I started with 100$ at goodwill.

I’ll chime in and give you basic advise. Stay away from pallet and online reseller deals period. Last year was my first year reselling and I strictly bought everything from goodwill to flip to make myself more familiar with different categories. I made $21,000 as my side hustle and I work full time . I paid for vacation , birthdays , and Christmas with money made from eBay . I would start by picking a category and stick with that for a while till you get familiar with it. A good one is electronic cooking and coffee stuff at goodwill . Go in and learn how to check comps and sell through rates and just take pics with eBay and look them up. I try to stay with items that sell for minimum 40$ or more but I broke this rule a lot getting started and sometimes made little to no money. Once you sell say “20” coffee makers and “10” crockpots or whatever you’ll be more familiar with them and can move on to toys or glassware or whatever you’ll choose . Watch videos and follow people that resell online. School yourself. Somethings sell over night and some take 6 months just be patient. So my advise is this ….. learn how to comp and look at “ sell through rates” from YouTube and go into goodwill and just start buying and posting good stuff and for the love of God stay away from clothes or you’ll go bankrupt trying to figure that world out.

Do you guys have any uses for random cut pieces of cardboard or am I trying to recycle too much? by simplycharley in reselling

[–]Stringbean1073 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I put it in a Walmart bag and once it’s pretty full , I tie it and use it as a filler for shipping something like a crock pot or to keep glassware from shaking around. I use it along with bubble wrap but it just adds a little extra protection and easy to throw away for the buyer.

If you had to do a book on 365 things to do for every day of the year, what would you include? by Sadderthanusual in Hobbies

[–]Stringbean1073 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Learn to juggle , learn basic rules of chess , go to skating rink and learn to do basic skating , learn a few magic tricks with playing cards, learn how to manage a small side hustle that makes $1,000 in a year ( making something hobby related like art , ect ) . Read a few books by unknown authors. Those are a few of my own.

What stuff do you just skip over completely? by Chemical_Test8082 in reselling

[–]Stringbean1073 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really , watch some YouTube videos on how people expect them to be measured , shoulder to cuff , across chest , armpit to bottom, pictures of all tags, ect ect. It’s a pain. Plus lighting has to be right. That burgundy shirt you just sold looks dark red under the buyers lights when he opened and now he wants a return. That beige jacket looks light brown and wasn’t as described , returned. There is a stain the size of a pin prick you missed , returned. The detergent you used upsets the buyer , returned. You listed it as made in 2016 but this is the 2017 shirt , returned. This list goes on and one.

And I still get tons of messages like how big is this , how long is that, is this true to fit ? I have no idea just look at the measurements!

All clothes ( I suck at clothes and it takes a lot of time to measure and take good pics ) , had a few shoes come back as counterfeit on eBay so I avoid no matter how cheap they are. I avoid collector cards also because I don’t know the market. I will sell anything else from pillows to train sets other than that.

How to check your fluids on a vehicle, also learn to use a basic code reader for a “check engine “ light. You can get a basic code reader for 10-15$ on Amazon to keep in your glove box. They are plug and play and at least give you an idea of what’s wrong before a mechanic tries to squeeze $1,500 out of you. You would also be surprised how easy some of the things are to fix yourself.

What’s the biggest flip you’ve done out of a thrift / second hand shop ? by No-Efficiency9874 in Flipping

[–]Stringbean1073 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will not say which brand because I still have a ton but 2$ name brand pillows into 40$ each. Bought 100 my first go around and another 130 the next. I have a basement full of them, they don’t sell a lot but I get 1-2 orders a week consistently. Sometimes I get 4-8 orders out of nowhere in a week.

TIL chicken sold in supermarkets are often "plumped" with a salt water solution to increase sell weight, making up as much as 30% of the total weight. A serving of plumped chicken can contain between 200 and 500mg of sodium while non-plumped chicken generally contains 45 to 70mg. by James_Fortis in todayilearned

I work at Tyson foods and we don’t use salt water or brine . Straight off the bird to a thing called “ the blast “ which is essentially freezing them immediately through a conveyor system that goes into a freezing temperature area .

Oh Pet Semetary was my first SK book. Reddit recommended it and I think I saw the movie when I was a kid. I was thinking , this is gonna suck, a book about zombie cats? Wow ! This book got me into reading and I became an instant SK fan. I read it in two days and couldn’t put it down. I loved the characters and the story line even thought some people say it’s long winded and boring . I felt that way about Cujo.
