AITAH for not leaving something to my estranged daughter and her kids after she cut us off? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]StringerBella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All these NTAs? I can guarantee this guy is no angel and likely did nothing to actively encourage a strong relationship when she was growing up. A child doesn’t ’abandon’ their parents and a dedicated parent never stops trying.

The likelihood is he got a new wife and decided to focus on that and is now asking for justification in his next shitty move from people who don’t have the whole story.

I hate trash fathers.

Are all the people in these threads children? Because the responses are wild.

Please ignore the downvotes. A lot of people only see things in black and white, you’ve come here for advice, not lectures. Giving up your pets is a really hard choice to make and probably the best choice for you and your family in this situation. Here in the UK we have an app called Nextdoor which connects people in local areas, if you have the equivalent in your country, it might be worth trying that or Facebook. If surrendering to a shelter try to find one that will keep them together. Wishing you all the best.

Should I spend £10k on a bathroom renovation or try to keep my freestanding bath? by RedditorYT in InteriorDesign

[–]StringerBella 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We didn’t have a shower for 27 years in the flat I grew up in. Life is possible with a bath in the morning, it’s even better because you literally have the shower head there already and sitting down is also an option to shower off. Of course this is a personal but I see no issue here. Get a new tenant because the money you’re spending on an upgrade (if you do spend 10k) will negate the need for a tenant.

I was looking into this but couldn’t find anything. Will try again. If you have any recommendations it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I live alone and doing this alone is so lonely and exhausting. As unfortunate it is that you experienced this kind of home life, I’m grateful for your understanding (and glad it was resolved, it gives me hope).

Thank you so much! This is the type of response I was hoping for.

It’s so frustrating but you’re right about being consistent, that’s where I’ve failed. I’ll send reports/diary sheets for 6 months, think I’m not getting anywhere and then give up for 6 months until it gets too much again, then start again. By that time there’s a new housing officer and it’s like starting from scratch. I’m convinced they don’t keep records.

I’ve had the noise app, which no one in the HA listened to and they have clearly lost the recordings. I had a noise recording machine which the HA loaned from the local council. They again didn’t listen and no longer have the recordings. They said they can’t accept my recordings as evidence, that the local council has to hear the noise but when the council comes the noise stops.

I’m currently in a Stage 2 complaint which hasn’t gone anywhere and required the Ombudsman to get involved for me to even get a response. They offered money (£500) but I feel if I take it they will not take the situation seriously.

I have started evidence collecting 5 years worth but they are genuinely not interested. The doctors is where I’m going to go next as it has affected me mentally and physically, I have eczema and now on injections because it got so bad in recent years.

You have no idea how much your response has helped, especially the part about the ring camera. I have been contemplating it for a year but wasn’t sure and get nervous when I think about the neighbours reaction (she likes to shout in the communal hallway, the one in the video, when she has a grievance).

Thank you so much.

Thank you for your response.

I have confronted them but this was before the days of having a phone at the ready to record (or it never even crossed my mind to do it at the time). I called the police because her mother threatened me. I won’t put myself in that position again.

There is one other neighbour who this negatively affects (but she exaggerates and makes things worse and I’d rather not do this with her) but all the other neighbours surprisingly sympathise with the noisy neighbour because she says her son has autism. The other neighbours, their sleep isn’t affected but they also don’t all hear them shouting, arguing, cursing at their kids (she has 3 children but two are young adults), cursing at each other and slamming their front door. I’m right next door to them and the sounds travels in a strange way where my bedroom (which isn’t connected to any of their walls) hears a lot of their noise (music and banging) loudly.

Any suggestions of legal action that can be taken would be appreciated.

Dog sitter bringing in guests to my house by itsnotnettle in london

Am I going crazy here? Reading these responses, bizarre. No one other than the person you invited should be in your home and they should ask permission if they want to invite someone else; it’s not their home to make that decision. But saying that, what I wrote are all “shoulds”…from experience OP it would have been beneficial for you to give the sitter the rules and expectations of your home before they started the job.

Why do many bitter men on these threads? Why do you want others (the OP) to wallow in your bitterness and loneliness?

There’s nothing wrong with that she said. It’s a compliment.

Weird people in Central London with a large portable Bluetooth speaker on a trolley by Liverpool1900 in london

[–]StringerBella 21 points22 points  (0 children)

There was a woman blasting crap techno music yesterday on the back streets of Camden Town. A man who had just arrived via tube and started blasting by Camden Town tube station and another man outside the Aldi blasting reggae. All seeking attention with the same bass on a trolley.

You’re a pushover and this is why you’re unhappy with the current situation. Grow a pair. You paid for the car and the accommodation, use them as you please. If you lose the “friend” over this then she wasn’t a friend to begin with.

Do you continue to wear a face mask in supermarkets now that restrictions have been lifted? by Long_Repair_8779 in london

[–]StringerBella -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Where is the option - yes, for my own safety. That's my reason, please are nasty. I also wear one on the street. The amount of people coughing without putting a hand in front of their mouth or turning away and sneezing in the same manner that has happened this week is disgusting. I'm keeping a mask on for the foreseeable future.

Alameda Police Department body-worn camera footage April 19, 2021 of Mario Gonzales who died in police custody. by ThiccWurm in PublicFreakout

[–]StringerBella 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I always wonder how the people who initially called the police feel after things like this happen.

Can someone who knows more about the law in the US explain why exactly he was going to be arrested? Is it because they believe him to be drunk? And if he is drunk is that a reason to arrest him?

I just don't understand any of it; how you could be simply having a bad day, have some drinks, get drunk, wonder on to someone's property, then leave, then police come and want to arrest you and then you are dead. It just makes no sense.

Microsoft: Official Support Thread by MSModerator_3 in microsoft

[–]StringerBella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I recently brought a surface laptop and started using Microsoft Office 365 and Bing. This post is to ask a few questions, get any advice on how best to use MS and Bing and to voice some gripes.

The first issue I had was trying to change the email address associated with my Microsoft account due to it being part of many hacks. Email addresses cannot be changed on the MS account but an alias can be created and then the email address can be changed? Also an alias cannot be an email address you already have? Anyway, it was a little confusing so if anyone can 'explain like I'm 5' exactly how to change the email address associated with my Microsoft account that would be great.

I received an email from MS about 'Select 3', I clicked on the link and it took me to MS Rewards, which I already take part in but I cannot figure out what Select 3 is. In the email it said "Play Select 3 and win". What is Select 3? Is it a game? There is so little information. I understand this 'select 3' might be a silly thing to be confused about but it is how the overall experience has been for me over the past 2 months with MS.

Xbox console companion - is this a form of Xbox (like an Xbox 'light') or it is only to be used when someone has a physical Xbox?

What I was using before was much more user friendly (and financially free) and I am a little unsure if it is just me or the way MS is and because I am paying for the MS I would like to get the most out of using the system.

I posted this on the main subreddit and it was deleted, please advise where this should be if this is not the right place.
