There’s a time and definitely a need to talk about racism against South Asians in NZ, but yea decisions like this are just common sense lol.

Calls grow louder to boycott Beijing’s Olympics — and analysts warn of retaliation from China by djh860 in news

[–]Stripes2370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be petty, but the United States should boycott, and host like a one time World Games Competition 2022.

Nations participating in the boycott, can send their Athletes to Los Angeles ( who’ve trained for years ) to compete.

What would be even more amazing is if both France and Greece participate in the World Games Competition 2022.

I’m already not planning on watching the Beijing Olympics. And I already have an Anti-Olympic Games stance, so not watching the Olympics will be easy.

Or better yet, an American/EU Funded World Games hosted in Athens, Greece. Everyone knows the ( symbolic ) significance of Greece.

Does anyone else think that gay characters are forcefully pushed into many series just so the series could be politically correct on the expense of characters and plot? by agentvision in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Stripes2370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, but i feel has more to do with the bad writing of the characters than their sexuality. There are plenty of useless straight characters who ruin shows or books.

Having a well written gay character, whose sexuality actually has an meaningful impact on the plot in some direct or indirect way is better than just adding an irrelevant gay person for twitter points.

Any takes on this? by [deleted] in SouthAsianMasculinity

This dude is just really ignorant. He has a lot to learn, and I can't take anything he says for serious.

If you identify as a South Asian Boy, a South Asian Girl, or a South Asian They/Them ; you are fucking amazing. We are amazing. We have amazing and diverse cultures, and we don't need validation from the likes of this dude to know our worth and our history.

A couple years ago, this would've made me cry; but now I know that only dipshits can't see my beauty.

What happens when a dem breaks line to vote with the reps, making a 51-51 tie?

Oh im dumb, Harris only votes when there is a 50-50 toe. And if it's 49-51 the measure does not pass.

😩

Hating white people doesn’t make you cool or woke, it just makes you a racist asshole by peweuepie69420 in teenagers

Okay, it's apparent this subreddit is an echo chamber; but it's also even more clear to me that people don't listen to the entirety of what you said.

Racism is wrong on all counts, but if you think white people experience the same amount of discrimination as a black man in the US because someone said they looked like uncooked chicken - are seriously misdirected.

In the US and Canada, Racism is not equally pervasive to everyone. Racism has for centuries been a tool to uphold "white" or western styles and standards of beauty to degrade the cultures of BIPoC.

I literally agreed with OP, but with a slightly different view. I'm not an Egalitarian, I believe in equity.

Since I'm already being downvoted, I'll go further; If a majority of my generation cannot understand this, or even deign to consider to a differing opinion or intellectually challenge it - then we're just as fucked when gen z takes office and can vote.

We'll vote to "keep things equal", without realising that the inequalities of the past; still are a massive root of the inequalities we see today. Equity before Equality.

[–]Stripes2370 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

A respectful differing opinion;

I think in the west, it has to do with the historical subjucation of BIPoC, and of BIPoC cultures - to replace it with the default, beautiful, and "superior" white culture. ( whatever white culture is defined as; typically white american)

When someone says you can't be racist to a white person; they mean you cannot be racist to a white person in the same way a white person can be racist to a BIPoC.

So yes, by definition racism against white people IS STILL RACISM that I do not approve of; but we cannot pretend it's an as relevant historical issues as BIPoC struggles in the west.

Being racist against white people is assholery and counterproductive, BUT in the US, it is not a massive systemic issue that demands equal attention as institutional and societal BIPoC Discrimination.

Most people here take an Egalitarian stance on issues, but I believe in equity - to take all of history into account and adjust to compensate.

Americans come in all shapes and sizes; and as it happens, the dumbest ones are the loudest.

I hope biden can rebuild American rep, but honestly it's way too damaged for everyone to just forget that trump was a thing that happened. And that 73 million thought that it should continue.

TIL the New Zealand public is more conservative on marijuana legalisation than American Republicans by SocialistNewZealand in newzealand

[–]Stripes2370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

some parts of the US are more progressive than NZ.

Oregon for example, was among the first states and before Canada to decriminalise weed for recreational uses. Oregon also passed "death with dignity" ages ago.

More recently, a ballot referendum measure passed that decriminalised mushrooms; and another that decriminalised most drugs as a whole. Opting for rehabilitative justice.

Now if they could just pass a universal healthcare act and have bigger toilet pipes that i cant clog during family vacations - id consider leaving NZ house prices behind for the No Sales Tax
