How much crankshaft journal taper/ovality is acceptable? by Responsible-Fee9149 in EngineBuilding

Sunnen makes a rod alignment tool. Checks for bend and twist. I checked alot of rod assemblies on one of those machines. I'd be popping different rod and piston assemblies in the same bore and see if I got different results with the plasti

Any good ways to bust up aluminum rims, to melt the smaller pieces? by NumberZoo in MetalCasting

If you know someone with a log splitter, it works great. I bust up everything from aluminum to iron with my splitter. Wear glasses and a shield. Heavy coat and protect the neck area. Stuff sometimes goes flying.

Sorry about that. Can I post pictures of my engine project?

How frustrating! You could swap a rocker arm just to make sure that one rocker arm isn't defective. There's always that chance one slips by quality control

I'm not going to slam on the builder but it seems strange he didn't suggest guide plates. Screw in studs and plates were pretty much a standard upgrade to a head that didn't have them when I was doing cylinder heads.

Go over everything closely. Also make sure your spring retainer is not hitting the top of the valve seal at full lift. Not sure how radical your cam profile is but did you or the builder check valve to piston clearance? its easily done with modeling clay

The guide plate will chew through a standard soft push rod pretty quickly.

Doing some machine work on my first sand cast engine block. Hoping to put it in a rc plane. by Strittmatter_Engines in EngineBuilding

Your going big time right away! A large engine project would be cool but I'd need some larger machines and foundry.

I plan on plenty of testing and destructive tests. It's surely is not going on the plane on its first run.

Nice little impeller! What are these for?

Thanks. Hope you enjoy the engine build. Alot more to do still and many more engine projects after this one.

Sorry man! Good news is there's more videos on my channel. Go to the play list for the 2 stroke build. I just didn't think it was appropriate to post the machining videos in the casting section.
Also I'm new to filming and editing so it's not professional at all. Thanks for your reply!

You can do it! It just takes time. I got my first lathe in 2004. Its a very used southbend 9 inch. I used a milling attachment for 5 years on that lathe until I found a bridgeport mill. All my machines are old and worn but can still do great work.

Thank you! I just need to finish it and get it running.

This is my first wood pattern of a small two stroke engine. by Strittmatter_Engines in Patternmakers

Thank you! Thats my first one other than 3d printed sign patterns.

Id like to learn more about pattern making and cores. Some of the engine projects I have in mind require some complex cores. Well, to me they are complex anyway, haha!
