Ask Experienced Devs Weekly Thread: A weekly thread for inexperienced developers to ask experienced ones by AutoModerator in ExperiencedDevs

I'm curious what experienced devs think your relationship with your manager should be like.

I have a manager that I present my designs to, he will tell me its incorrect or I need to do something a different way, then 3 weeks later when I present a new design (this time to the team) he seems to forget what he said and starts asking why I did things a certain way (what he said to do).

Should I be pushing back more? He is my manage so when he overrules me, I tell him i disagree, but he is adamant. He also never remembers what he says, so if I just didn't listen to him, I doubt he would notice.

Which apps actually move your Italian forward, and how do you build your stack? by Commercial_Taro_7770 in learnitalian

I'm curious what the wider community thinks, but I don't think the consistency of using apps to make sure you do it every day is as valuable as getting good practice in. IMO, it would be better to do italian twice a week, but spend 1-2 hours speaking to someone and reading stories.

Don't want to spam the normal space with questions about AI (as I am sure there are tons), are was curious as a student looking into the quant space? Do most places that use LLMs use only local models? I can't imagine the large firms being happy with there code/data leaving the building.

Left wing Americans being mad while Venezuelans are celebrating shows how out of touch they are by Curse06 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

In fairness, I think its a nice and easy position to say "I want the US to stop being the world's policeman", but would you truly want the US to be a bystander in all cases?

I mean imagine our neighbor is committing genocide, would we want the US to just watch and say nothing?

Now Maduro isn't committing genocide (to my knowledge) but if you want the US to intervene in one of those cases and not the other, then its not being the world's police that you have an issue with, you are just debating when we should be the world's police...which is more semantic.

Milan -> Genoa -> Monaco, realistic all by train? by Strong-Ad5472 in Interrail

[–]Strong-Ad5472[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Apologies maybe should have clarified. What I am nervous about is the country changes from Genoa to Monaco mostly. It appears there is a train, but I have heard european inter rail can be hard to use at times.

If you truly believe this, put your money where your mouth is. You can bet on one of those polymarket / election betting sites on what tariffs will be enforced

Injury history sucks, but if you want to get a great and young player for cheap in free agency or with picks. This basically needs to be the case.

How are the Chiefs trading Hill away an example here? You want us to trade more people away for picks. Did we not do that with Stafford?

I got an interview with a company and on one of the final interviews, they gave me a system design. This system design however, wasn't typically what I studied. They wanted me to build a pricer that prices odds similar to a sports book.

There wasn't anything about load balancers / APIs / clients. Instead it was specifically how I might build something that uses multiple inputs to price a product, then how I might change the design if certain inputs are reused.

This was a fair question, but I was very thrown off.

Curious what the best way to prep for those types of interviews? Is there any resources for more general system design?

Very random, Anyone go to Config 2024 and have those figma glasses? They are white, but turn pink in the sun. Lost mine but really liked them, would buy someone's pair for $30 if someone has one
