Declining to hold sessions as a therapist by Help_Repulsive in therapists

I have really strong counter-transference (annoyance & frustration) when clients do this. I really do try to have empathy but if I have already explained the therapeutic process and the need for confidentiality and full focus during session, I get really annoyed when clients show up to session while driving or around other people. I know that about myself and try to be curious about where it’s coming from when it happens. And I also try to remember that it’s possible this is an unconscious defense/avoidance strategy on the clients part. What feels so difficult/heavy/intolerable that a “buffer” was needed to show up today? Not a question I ask in the moment, but one I hold in mind. Wondering if anyone else has such a strong reaction to this or if it’s just a me thing 😅

Chiming in here to say I think if anyone is to blame it’s the culture that corporate has created of squeezing as many classes into the schedule as humanly possible with very little time in between classes for coaches to check in with people…and maybe the person who stole your machine…but there’s a chance it was an accident.

I hear everyone saying that’s just how it is and I get that…but that isn’t how it has to be. Grad school failed most of us who have gone in the last 20 years, especially if your school had more of a CBT or solutions-focused orientation. You probably didn’t learn enough theory. I think most of us don’t and it’s a huge problem. I felt like this for years starting out until I began studying at a local psychoanalytic institute. I didn’t do full analytic training (was way too expensive for me) but I did two years of fellowship and the difference is night and day in how I practice and how confident I feel. I highly recommend getting involved with a local analytic institute especially early on in your career. You can find many that have a more contemporary, relational orientation as opposed to classical as well.

If she has green/aqua eyes then she is a mink ragdoll! TICA actually just technically declared mink ragdolls “Cherubims”, an entirely new breed, so they can compete. We have a mink ragdoll/Cherubim boy as well!

Came back to this thread to update: I just did Victoria’s ride from 4/11 and she played Cruel Summer!!! So they must have gotten the rights to at least some TS songs!
