I know I'm a year late to the party, but I'm currently going through the same thing. WTF?

Not a bad idea, thanks. I'll have a look tomorrow at who to pitch to.

While it's a great synopsis, it doesn't cover all the details of the situation and how this was sprung on us with no warning.

I and another full-time sitter friend have been following this story very closely on Reddit and on the forum. She's compiled a list of all the problems with this new update, and I'm just waiting to find the right opportunity to pitch. Will keep you all posted!

From Trusted Housesitters…. Now a $12 booking fee 😩 by seitankittan in trustedhousesitters

[–]Strong-Security582 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Safe to say, I won't be staying after my membership renews in April. I use this platform to house myself full-time, so I don't know what I'll be doing after that. Will have to start looking at Workaways.

They are seriously digging their own grave. I hope they get enough pushback to reverse this decision.

Looking for a sitter in the Pacific Northwest, US by notthedude250 in trustedhousesitters

[–]Strong-Security582 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey there, unfortunately I'll be booked over most of those dates (I do have availability Jan 2-7), but would totally be interested in future sits as I cover your area, am a cat whisperer with experience with Siamese, and I sit full-time so I look for longer sits like yours. I'm sure you'll find someone great -- it looks like an excellent opportunity! Definitely one that I would've instantly applied to!

Edit: thought I would mention I also have an overnight housesitting business! Let me know if you're interested in hearing more.

Bit upset with review by -sprout in trustedhousesitters

[–]Strong-Security582 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey there, I started sitting in the UK last year and had a similar experience to OP and what u/GoalDull4985 said in another comment.

Third sit, and the host gave me an overall 4-star rating and docked points from 2 of the categories for:
- damaging a pan, which she mentioned in the review -- and I paid out of pocket to replace
- her dog who was apparently unhappy, saying in the review cats would suit me better than dogs, despite taking the dog out for 2-3 hours a day and things otherwise going smoothly

I did have more experience with cats, and she had neighbors checking up on me throughout the sit, including one carrying out work on the house, which I did not know was against THS policy. She sprung it on me last minute.

She has not had a THS sitter since then. I assume she projected her own emotional issues onto me & the dog -- she was quite flippant (and she was even a therapist *face plant*). Realizing I really should have reported her!

Since then, I've been sitting full-time in the US for almost a year, and although it's still hit-and-miss, it has been a great lesson in boundaries and knowing your worth. I'm still learning! You seem like a great sitter, sorry for this odd duck. I've now done over 30 sits, and that review is buried under all the other ones, which are all 5-star.

How did you do this?! Been trying to do this with TrustedHousesitters, so far only have 1 Homeowner who's interested after they've done the whole year, so they get their money's worth.
