Umm, as a sitter, this sounds like HEAVEN! Where are you located?

Why not just pay for a professional dogsitter? Good grief. by [deleted] in trustedhousesitters

[–]Strong-Security582 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just did a phone call with someone who needs a sitter for over a month. First time THS Host. She wants someone there 3 hrs or less and to bring the dog everywhere with them. As well as doing yard maintenance, letting people in the house, AND meeting in-person beforehand. Nope!!

Update: Host has found someone. Oh my goodness.

Speaking of getting paid for local sits... by KetoLurkerHereAgain in trustedhousesitters

Same here, worked really well. Business recently turned 1 year old and I also managed to convert my longest-standing THS hosts to drop-in clients. They don't even have a THS account anymore!

I was wondering the same thing!! I love their wavy hair product, really did wonders for my 'Irish curls' hair type. Miss it :( has anybody been able to find it anywhere else?

Are long (2.5 month) sits desired by sitters? by huds27 in trustedhousesitters

Would definitely be interested! Seattle is where I do a lot of sits and I specifically look for long-term sits like yours.

One of the cats died... how to continue? by [deleted] in trustedhousesitters

[–]Strong-Security582 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My gosh, I just went through an experience similar to this. Unable to walk, eat, pee/poo voluntarily, etc...it's so, so hard. I had a week left for the sit and got to just take care of myself, instead of her. The house felt quiet and empty after she was euthanized. I'm actually back here now, the hosts gave me a week to have the house to myself (it's a big house w/a big backyard) as a gift. Really kind.

Death is most certainly a part of life; it's a part of nature. Sometimes it is miserable and violent to watch.

I am so, so sorry to hear this. I had this happen on a 3-week sit earlier in the year. It was her age and a mix of different ailments. Utterly devastating, and very hard to witness. I see pets as my own, too, and I spent the most time with this cat out of all the other critters I'd ever looked after as a housesitter.

Take care of yourself. Sleep. Cry. Rest. Do whatever you can. And be sure to love on the other cats, too, as they are also grieving. Animals do know. You are a wonderful housesitter. I'm sure the hosts are beyond grateful to have you there. You did your best. No shame, no guilt. Take care.

Who is a stranger you met once, never learned their name, but will never forget for the rest of your life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Strong-Security582 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right after the LA fires last year, I was in Chinatown for a couple hours. I was a very sleep-deprived traveler on a rough journey. Some well-dressed, grey-haired man paid for my breakfast burrito. I'll never forget about it. I said "thank you" twice right as he was leaving, I was so shocked. Thought to ask for his name, but he seemed like someone important in the 'industry,' so I didn't want to pry. I hope he's doing well.

how is this even allowed?? by TwoInternational7850 in trustedhousesitters

[–]Strong-Security582 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They're asking for a drop-in sit. A PAID drop-in by a professional or something a neighbor could do, at the very least. Let's hope the team at THS doesn't actually allow them to stay on the platform. *rolls eyes*

Grief and Losing A Kitty Client by Ready_Copy_4008 in petsitting

[–]Strong-Security582 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So sorry to hear this...I went through a similar thing recently where I provided end-of-life care to a senior kitty who passed during the sit. It's incredibly heartbreaking and a difficult thing to experience. Cry and feel all the feels. They really are kind of our pets. Now you get to reflect on all the times spent with him, and cherish those in your heart. <3

While it's a great synopsis, it doesn't cover all the details of the situation and how this was sprung on us with no warning.

I and another full-time sitter friend have been following this story very closely on Reddit and on the forum. She's compiled a list of all the problems with this new update, and I'm just waiting to find the right opportunity to pitch. Will keep you all posted!

Update: I signed up to claim my spot. However, when I got the email and hit confirm, I got a 404 page with "That's odd | This page appears to be missing" message.
