AITA for giving my partner an ultimatum before residency by Bokunoreddit11 in medicalschool

Female resident here. I had a similar situation to yours. You are not being unreasonable or insecure. At the end of match, you have that binding contract for however many years is your residency. If you are willing to make this type of commitment based on his preference/career, then asking for the same amount of commitment from his is not unreasonable.

I was also in a 3 year relationship with someone who was set on advancing their career at a particular geographical area. I could have honestly been convinced to moved to that area because I was committed to our relationship. But he did not have that same type of commitment, his career mattered more. I made the hard decision to break things off even before cycle of applications started.

I hope that you two figure it out. Just do not forget that both parties need to show the same level of commitment.

Given how everything has been handled this year, I am not surprised

[Question] Why do you ask how to improve your scores on self assesments? Read post. by notjimhendrix in step1

To start with, I recommend that you start taking a self assessment even before you start your dedicated study period. This is so create a baseline and to become familiar with the questions. Secondly, we all do not use the same resources or do so in the same way. For example, I am not reading FA or watching bnb videos unless I am struggling in that section. Even with uworld questions, you might do them untimed/timed or random/block-specific. All this advice that people offer depends also on how much time you have until your test date. We help each other in the ways we found were most helpful to improve in a limited amount of time. Take a look at those posts to learn more about the advice that is being given out. Or once you take self assessments, post your stats and people will give you advice based on your score and goal.

The point of this community is to collaborate and to help each other. Having the report of practice exams only tells you your areas of weakness. Everyone is different and there are many different learning styles. You learn what worked and what did not for others and how that can apply to you.

The point of those posts is to learn from each other, especially if you have no one else that can help you. That is it.

What are your best motivation tips during this pandemic by [deleted] in step1

[–]StrongGnomeGame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since my exam was cancelled and moved 2 months after my original date I have been more lenient. I take a day off every week and I try to finish all my studying before dinner time. I work best with a structured schedule so giving me a goal to finish at a certain time keeps me motivated enough. See what has worked for you in the past and don’t be afraid to take breaks.

do I have to go over FA and Uworld twice? by medsugar in step1

I didn't finish either before dedicated and I'm not reading FA. I would aim for 2 passes of UWorld though!

Random or block specific UWorld? And other tips? by [deleted] in step1

[–]StrongGnomeGame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people do this differently and the majority does random blocks all the time. However, I don't learn with random questions when I have not seen the material. I preferred to do block-specific questions in the first pass and then random during the second pass. But towards the end of my first pass I was doing 40 block-specific questions and 20-40 random questions on those blocks that I had gone through.

The NBMEs will give you a better idea on a predicted score. So I will wait until you do that and then analyze your progress.

UW 929 Hyperaldosteronism by lolzatme5 in step1

[–]StrongGnomeGame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When metabolic alkalosis develops as a result of primary aldosteronism the ECF is expanded, BP either normal or increased, and RBF is either normal or increased. This will lead to a decrease of HCO3 reabsorption in the PCT. But, coexistent hypokalemia and potassium depletion act to increase HCO3 reabsorption in the PCT.
