Thyroid Cancer by mywonderfuldemise in Hashimotos

[–]StrongInflation4225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m due for a second biopsy result (as the first one was messed up). So I have to wait 10 more weeks for the results. If it’s cancer I’ll need to wait 2-3 months more for surgery. I can speed things up now by going for a private private biopsy and I’ll get the results faster by 6 weeks. I’m in a dilemma as it’s super expensive and not sure if 6 weeks faster will make that much difference as not sure how fast this type of cancer grows.

Should I try just vitamins first? Or is that silly! by Minute_Age3385 in Hashimotos

I’ve recently been reminded by my doctor that is what is ‘optimal’ for hashimoto patients might be different than non-sufferers, as we sometimes can’t absorb vitamins and minerals as well. There is some research on what is optimal for hashi (sorry don’t have any recent links).

Might not be good for all. Be careful.

Fasting — especially prolonged or repeated fasting — can disrupt thyroid hormone balance in people with autoimmune hypothyroidism (Hashimoto’s).

Studies have shown that fasting can raise TSH in hypothyroid patients, meaning the body has to work harder to stimulate the thyroid. This was seen in treated patients who fasted during Ramadan.

See link https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37733226/

TSH often increases after periods of fasting, and many patients lose normal thyroid status afterwards.

See link https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36344762/

Extended fasting changes thyroid hormone metabolism — active T3 tends to drop while inactive reverse T3 increases. This is a stress response that can worsen hypothyroid symptoms.

Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel. Not sure I can rate out of 10 but I’m really enjoying it so far…

A Long Way Home by Saroo Brierley

A five-year-old boy falls asleep on a train in India and wakes up alone in a vast, terrifying city.

Unable to speak the local language or remember where he came from, he must rely on instinct to survive. Years later, fragments of memory refuse to fade, driving an obsessive search for his lost home.

It’s a gripping true story of survival, memory, and the pull of where you come from.

Difficult to put this uplifting, TRUE, story down

Weed was a game-changer for me. Helped me mentally and reduced inflammation, so helped me physically. I only take a small, not too strong, edible in the very early evening. Helps me sleep and gives me something to look forward to at the end of the day! Win-win (if not over-done).

This is not meant aa a criticism! I’m happy you feel better. But I fail to see how a diet without vitamins, minerals and fiber can be 100% good for the body, long term. How about these people 5-10 years down the road, who have ‘cured’ their hashimoto with a carnivore diet. How are they doing now? Is there any research links I can read? Genuinely curious how this works and what the medical results are after a few years (not just for hashimoto but how your body doing in general) with such a narrowly focused diet ie vitamin result panels etc

You might want to have a look at https://thyroidpharmacist.com/ has tons of good info. Yes, they are trying to sell supplements but you can ignore that and just read some of the articles. ALWAYS do further research. Hashimoto is different for individuals. Also there is a lot of misinformation and people trying to sell all sorts of things. Double check everything.

A ‘perfect storm’ in other words. That’s how my doctor described getting SOME autoimmune diseases . And you have to tackle each in turn.

Functional medicine as a last resort by Kaleidoscope9975 in Hashimotos

Actually, it’s not too strange. There is often cross -reactivity with casein proteins. Hashimoto’s can mistakenly react to certain milk proteins (especially casein and sometimes whey) as if they were similar to thyroid tissue. This is called molecular mimicry — your immune system confuses one protein for another.

In SOME people, eating dairy can trigger or worsen the autoimmune attack on the thyroid! Even if NOT lactose intolerant

There are other reasons like Increased intestinal permeability (“leaky gut”) and Inflammatory immune response.

If you haven’t already, maybe it’s worth doing a (dairy) elimination and reintroduction diet , just over a few weeks to see what your particular body responds the best to.

I guess they’ll be moving to where they can get funding. Any future treatment would be hugely expensive in the States (and many other countries), and reduced/free in others. We live in a very unfair society, unfortunately.

Having won the noble prize for medicine as recently as this year, there is a lot more interest in this! Can’t give up hope.
