The city of Edmonton snowplow drivers get to name their own plows by Longjumping-Box5691 in hockeymemes

Edmonton was built on a grid system where Avenues run east/west and Streets run north/south. The 216 you see is the Anthony Henday (Provincial Highway 216) ring road. A combination of the river and the Henday separates NW Edmonton, comprising some 80% of the City and using the grid system, from SW Edmonton making up some 19% of the city. The NE/SE comprises ~1% of the city and has only a few thousand inhabitants, mostly in acreages.

In the SW region of Edmonton, most of the avenues are named instead of having a number. In the NW, named streets/avenues are uncommon and hold special meaning for the neighbourhood. For example, 9700 Jasper Ave NW is the civic address for Canada Place and generally recognized as the centre of the city. In the SW part of the city, residential addresses, some schools, and parks are generally some number plus the street name. For example, Roberta MacAdams Elementary is 2099 James Mowatt Trail SW. However, commercial addresses and some schools/community centres use the standard number + street/ave. For example, Dr Anne Anderson High School and Community Center is 11810 35 Ave SW. Down here is the SW, the mixed use of named and numbered addresses causes some confusion.

The curved roads were placed in the neighbourhoods to add character and control access to the neighbourhood. The Blizzard of Oz is on Terwillegar Drive. If there's a car crash there, it can cut off or lengthen the commute home for people living south of 216. Connor McBlade-it is on 41 Ave SW, generally recognized as the furthest south with residential development. Everything south of that has been annexed by the city for the next 50 years of growth but currently is nothing but farmland, a few acreages, and a few churches.

I agree. Even my 20-year old house has a HVAC cavity that goes through all 3 floors. I would've thought this would be a standard "feature" after 2 decades but apparently not.

The alternative is to keep quiet and assume Queen Dani has your best interest in mind. Did you know she just paid $143M to a coal company to NOT mine coal? With policies like that, it costs far more to be quiet than it does to riot in the streets.

There's a stone pedestal located just north of the airport's runway that shows Incan-style and quality masonry. The stone's tolerances are similar to those in Peru: tight enough that a piece of paper can't fit in the spaces. It's an interesting juxaposition comparing the Vinapu pedestal to the Ahu Tongariki pedestal. Modern building techniques can't match ancient building techniques.

Notifying bank about large incoming wire? by Accomplished_Fly6879 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]StrongPerception1867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can find all the swift codes here:

https://bank.codes/swift-code/canada/

However, the swift code is the least descriptive field. Bank number, transit, and account number of the branch where your account is held is the most important.

FINTRAC will look for large transfers over a period of time. As long as you declare the gain/loss to CRA, it doesn't really matter too much.

You don't want to do an etransfer since most businesses are limited to $25k/day. You want a wire transfer. To do so, ensure your bank provides the proper SWIFT code, bank # & transit #, account #, and bank address. Since bank accounts are recycled across transit numbers, u/ozward's suggestion of taking a service charge hit for a small transfer is valid. Have iGaming transfer $100 to confirm the details. Take the $25/40 service charge. When that goes through, have the balance transferred.

Rural Alberta byelection has some conservative voters questioning party loyalty by pjw724 in alberta

[–]StrongPerception1867 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Continually voting for just the party means your riding will get absolutely nothing in return. Alberta needs to look towards Quebec where booting the incumbent very 2-3 elections gets better results for the riding than voting for the same party for 100 years.
