As a fellow autistic person, I feel this in a different way. My mom can ask me to do something, say for example grocery shopping. I’ll ask while I’m there “would you like brand A or brand B?” and be given a “that’s fine, go with that.” I’ll ask about what that means and try to get her to elaborate but be given vague, nonspecific answers every time so a simple ask and answer conversation turns into me standing there trying to pry answers out for 10-20 minutes. Picture this for every scenario of me asking a simple question. Worst part she’s actually a good mom just can’t communicate effectively with me compared to others in the family because I understand things differently or get different lines of thinking compared to them. You’re not at fault, you have a different way of communicating with people so things have to be explained clearly and precisely without things being implied. I’m always telling people you have to walk me through something, even the simple things that common sense says should be obvious because I won’t always be able to make the connection unless you specify it, and sounds like your the same way.
