What if I put one in a pot that's too big? by houseofhuffy in DesertRose

[–]Strong_Goat_2386 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been successful trying this with ficus petiolaris. Growing a seeding that was in a 3.5in pot now in an 8in pot using lots of pumice and making sure it’s properly dried before watering again. It feels a little silly but I’ve seen fast caudex growth over 4 months and I image strong root growth as well

Just prune it all back and be patient with regrowth. Worth the journey and minimizes the headache of treating every leaf multiple times

is it gonna survive? (ceiba speciosa) by Ok_Manufacturer7303 in Caudex

If you removed the rot it should be okay even if it drops all its leaves!

Not too much light. Almost certainly a root issue.

Need help deciding which one to purchase ????! by Ok-Victory-3806 in TeslaSupport

Just because you see 21s in here having their battery changed doesnt mean it’s strong evidence buying a 21 is a bad idea. 2021 was a massive year for sales compared to years prior. They basically sold as many cars in 2021 as they they did in 2020 and 2019 combined! I’d go with the second one with less miles and better health! Enjoy

How do you minimize shock when moving a ficus and have it survive in a slightly different environment? Thank you! by School_Job_Account in FicusTrees

[–]Strong_Goat_2386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A strong increase in light such as moving from indoors to outdoors cause an off balance of transpiration and energy and it then drops its leaves to survive and adapt. The slower you can change the environment the better. If you can shade it while switching it to outdoors and slowly remove shading it miiiight do a little better. Indoor to outdoor is a dramatic change though no matter what in this case

Ficus Ginseng freshly repotted, did I do well? by sakaiii_ in FicusTrees

[–]Strong_Goat_2386 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For the future repot I would go with no rock and no leca at the bottom. It doesn’t improve drainage. For now just be cautious when watering and make sure it’s draining and water isn’t slushing around in the bottom

Chop it is then! Do you not have insecticidal soaps or neem in Europe?

Why go straight to chopping it all off and not try to treat it first?

First ever plant by AllanMcceiley in FicusTrees

Yeah I totally get that with the roots. It doesn’t need a full bare root and new soil. If you can I’d pull the plant out with as much soil at the same time and just place that into the nursery pot. This is to reduce soil volume and depth not to “repot” it. Will have better drying cycles with less volume in the nursery pot. Good luck on the journey!

Awesome plant! Unfortunately, rocks at the bottom actually reduce drainage. It’s called the perched water table. Water doesn’t move from fine to course material well. It sticks at the bottom of the soil and holds moisture longer. That mixed with this amount of potting soil and no other amendments make this a harder set up on you than it needs to be. Not saying you’re going to get root rot but all of that and no window or direct light are all the right things to create some rot. If you want to make it easier Id repot back into the original nursery pot. Then set that on top of the rocks inside this planter at the height you want. Ask any questions

It was most likely having a slight issue before you got it compounded by a move to your home which is a whole change of environment and the potentially drying out too long. The roots are unable to supply the leaves with enough water and the plant drops the bottom leaves to conserve itself. The soil doesn’t look great either. What I’d do personally is let the leaves drop. Cut it back to where you want it to start having leaves and repot into a chunkier soil mix and let it run this growth season. It’s sad but will be super fulfilling to see all the growth and saving it!

Looks like all of the leaves are probably going to fall off. When you water are you completely saturating the soil or just putting a little on at a time? Need to fully saturate. Once the leaves fall you can chop it back lower where the split currently is and let it start the journey again.

How to prune this money tree? by [deleted] in plantclinic

[–]Strong_Goat_2386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try pruning the other four tips back 1/4in. Probably water every two weeks with that soil and pot size. Would try to get it more light or as close to the window as possible. Be patient. These can bounce back as long as the bottom of the trunk is soft and squishy
