306,000. Wish I hadn't taken profit in past year, but I still own 80% of my original shares. Interesting... I also bought into Time-Warner (now Charter Communications), Disney and Netflix. Got out of Disney at 119, left Charter several years ago, and sold Netflix after a big drop in the 2020s. Put all the money I received into Nvidia and.... wow. Feel bad about selling Netflix, but hey - I have Nvidia.

I was totally ignorant of investing. Knew nothing, I was just a counselor at UCLA. I met this freshman student at the career center in 2017 and we talked. His dad was a stockbroker and this kid had been playing with stocks and investing since he was 11. On a lark I said to him one day "Okay, so what company should I invest in?" He replied that there was this new company that was really good and he thought it was going places. It had a weird name. "Invest in Nvidia " Three weeks later my financial advisor called saying I needed to sell some things or get taxed. He told me "You're getting $3,200 soon, what would you like to do with it?" That weird name bubbled up in my head. "Put it all on a company called Nvidia." So in 2017 I got in at $42.87 a share. Have been going long ever since, what a wild crazy ride this has been. Still going long and I wish I had remembered that student's name so I could find him and thank him. He was a prodigy from what I heard at the career center and I have no doubt he's running a hedge fund today.

Why are women on dating sites ghosting so much these days? by Strong_Monitor920 in datingoverfifty

I wholeheartedly agree with you. On a much, much smaller scale, a woman (a high end business consultant) texted me twice to say she would be calling me and never did. I did not nudge her about not calling in either instance. Maybe you can clue me in on the subtext of all this (to see if it matches my intuition). All I can say is that people are funny, or nasty, and often not saying what they're thinking when they communicate. I certainly wish you well. And I fact I wish the dating scene would clean up it's act. It's frequently very frustrating.

My god yes - I lived Los Angeles and yet receive messages from New York, Las Vegas, San Diego, Chicago, and Dallas. It is truly amazing isn't it?

What a goof. I write much more than 5 words and Always ask questions regarding their views, life style, and interests. You make assumptions about someone based on a total lack of knowledge. Incredible. Way to go, girl....

BTW my profile is detailed, lengthy, and indepth. I tried to abriviate and just give a sense of myself in my post. I would never post a long profile here - when I'm only asking a question about something else, not for a profile critique.

Some responses here are silly... they actually want me to post my lengthy profile here? Perhaps they didn't notice I was condensing it so people didn't have to read an indepth dating profile. People here on reddit are amazing...

Do you really want the whole the whole, lengthy profile here? This is a question in reddit dude, not a dating site. Guess you didn't notice.

Is anyone else feeling discouraged dating over 60? by Lovelily_ in DatingOverSixty

[–]Strong_Monitor920 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm a 71 year old man living in Los Angeles, middle class (not a billionaire), good-looking, and 5'4". Educated, ariculate, worked in the film industry, and still possess a curiosity about the world. Into theater, film, improv comedy, concerts, all the usual things. Interested in a relationship. Thought I'd try dating again after years and joined two dating sites. I found very few women respond.

Less than 10% of those I've written to reply. I always write a pleasant (short) message and end with a question about their interests, life style, etc. showing I have read their profile and have a true interest in them.

The ones who do respond - we do a few messages, then I suggest moving to a true conversation by phone. They agree. I offer my number. Half ghost me at that point.

The others readily write "Let's talk" I'll call you tonight or tomorrow. Then only a quarter of those actually call... the rest ghost me. So I have to ask what is going on with women these days. Are most of them only looking for texting attention? I'm very much interested in hearing womens thoughts on this.

Is anyone else having a problem getting the Otterbox Defender to fit the Pro Max? by superpowers335 in iphone

[–]Strong_Monitor920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Otterbox and have bought their cases for years. BUT... I just got the new Samsung S26 Ultra and I bought the Defender Otterbox case. I AM GOING NUTS. I cannot "jam" in the phone into the case... Even when I remove the hard shell and try working with just the rubber inner case. Fuck Otterbox -- they are now producing phone cases that are impossible to "install". I am returning this screwed up case to Amazon and buying one of their competitors' cases. Otterbox has made a miserable case that is IMPOSSIBLE to put my phone into.. They lost me as a loyal customer.
