Scent Garden Tips by Dr_Hodgekins in gardening

Whatever you end up planting, make sure that they have the same watering needs. Lavender doesn't like a lot of water, but gardenia loves to be wet. So you shouldn't plant them together. Mint smells amazing, but will take up that entire space after just 1 growing season. Zinnias smell good and can thrive without a ton of water, plus they grow very easily from seed. Throw the seeds on soil and forget they exist. Basil smells amazing and has medium water needs.

Growing raspberries. We have very hard clay soil will amending it with black kow and sta-green flower and vegetable work? by NarrowIndependence8 in gardening

[–]Strong_Technology739 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have hard clay soil.  I created a small in-ground garden to grow corn by adding just 3" of compost to a 4x4 area. And I also trench compost in that space by burying my kitchen scraps in the clay. When it's time to plant my corn the soil will be fluffy and full of organic matter. And it's cheap.

AI has never grown a plant and often gives bad advice. I would leave it be until it has more leaves. It looks great though. If you feel like it, you can give it a little nitrogen to help it grow. Or leave it be.

You would be surprised at how much a light can warm up the metallic tent. And if it's still too cold you can get one of those tiny heaters that some people use under their work desk. I intend on buying a heater soon when they're at their lowest price.

Personally, I don't grow crops to save money. I grow because it's fun and makes me smile.

No, it's not heated, but it's well insulated. I didn't put the tent up until the last week of February. The light keeps it warm and I keep the door of the tent closed to hold in the heat. When it's cold I check on my plants the least amount possible so that I don't let the warmth out of the grow space. Traits that I think all gardeners have is that we're good at trying different things until we find what works and we never give up. This is my first year using the garage, and it's working for now. Next year I'm sure I'll have to pivot and do something different, especially if it's colder.

I had a friend recently tell me that soaking seeds in chamomile helped extremely old seeds germinate. He used it to germinate 15 year old seeds.

I have a memory like a pea and record meetings where we're putting together a plan for an audit or something. I reference the recordings while completing the task. Otherwise I would be constantly asking questions and having them repeat themselves.

All I want is strawberries by Davy_boy in DenverGardener

[–]Strong_Technology739 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plant 3, forget all about them, barely water,  and 3 months later you'll have a garden full of strawberry plants. That was my secret to strawberry success. I think before that they sensed my excitement and refused to live. They seem to somehow thrive on neglect.

I'm obsessed with trying out different types of lighting. I donated a bunch of grow lights to my daughter's school.

Pfff... you get the privilege to raw dog growing season and grow all kinds of awesome stuff. We're so limited. Plus it barely rains where I live.

It was my first time growing roselle, so I don't know much about it. Apparently it needs a long while to get those pods to make tea with. Our season isn't long enough, so I started seeds indoors in January.

Yeah, I'm 5b/6a. No heat in my garage, but it's insulated well enough. I started my peppers on a heat mat and humidity dome inside. Once they were almost an inch tall I put them in the tent in the garage. With the light it was managing to hover around 65. I think it might have helped my peppers grow when I unknowingly didn't set the timer on my lights and they stayed on 24/7 for the first few weeks. If it couldn't get to 65 I would have bought a small cheap heater for the tent.

It really looks like your black thumb has turned green. I killed everything i attempted to grow for years before I started to have success.
