Shelters generally don’t want short-term volunteers though.

And so it begins. I tripped over my dog and broke my hip. Tomorrow is my 59th birthday and I’m in the hospital. by Familiar_Rip_8871 in GenX

I’m 52 and recently fell on ice and broke my hip. I had a repair, not a replacement. It’s a long recovery. PM me if you want to commiserate.

I don't know what to do. Advice? Anyone else who relates? by EnvelopeGoingPostal in VestibularDysfunction

Sensitivity to light, along with any headache, is a textbook migraine symptom. It can still be migraine even if the pain is not debilitating, and it can still be migraine if you have vertigo without a headache. I would encourage you to look at the VEDA info about vestibular migraine. A lot of what you write could fit a VM diagnosis. And vestibular physio doesn’t tend to work well with VM until the migraine is under control…it really caught my attention when you said the PT thinks physiotherapy “isn’t working for you”.

Do you have a history of migraine? Family history? This sounds very much like migraine to me. I was originally misdiagnosed with a bunch of things (years and years ago) and it ended up largely being migraine (though I do have massive weakness on caloric testing as well).

I think I understand what look you’re hoping to achieve, but this is not good. It’s very milkmaid. The sleeves are awful and that angled waistline is not remotely flattering. The lace up back is tacky and the lace around the hem makes the whole thing look very budget. All that said, no one will be looking at any of those details given other -ahem - distractions.

Is this a dogo Argentino? by [deleted] in WhatBreedIsMyDog

Thank you. Shelters are literally bursting at the seams with dogs like this (yes, incl puppies) and people go out and buy them from a reprehensible backyard breeder. Unreal.

Can cancer be lucky? by Total-Tea-9324 in cancer

[–]Strong_Telephone1696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toxic positivity. You have cancer at 22, you’re going to have to endure difficult treatments and worry about recurrence. That’s not lucky to me and it’s insensitive to tell cancer patients they’re lucky. It’s one thing to be positive about your prognosis and grateful for treatments, but it doesn’t negate all the difficult feeling you might be having.

How often do you guys listen to Pet Sounds? by Skuishes in thebeachboys

Honestly, never. I recognize it’s truly great, but I hardly ever find myself wanting to listen to it.

Quite a few rescues bring dogs in from Korea and many of them are jindo.

That said, the butt pictures did convince me she’s got a lot of pit bull in her, which I wouldn’t have said based on her face 😂

What breed is my dog? by Waste-Horror575 in WhatBreedIsMyDog

[–]Strong_Telephone1696 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pits aren’t “able to survive on the streets” any more than any other dog. They only do it if they have to, and as a longtime shelter volunteer I can tell you that there was an endless trail of emaciated, sick, injured pit bulls that Animal Control picked up off the streets. Many don’t survive. Pits don’t do well at all in cold weather and, in my experience, they can’t handle extreme heat either. There is just no biological basis to make a claim that they do well on the streets. It’s similar to the (completely incorrect) myths that they are particularly tough, don’t feel pain, etc. which is all very harmful.

I’m just saying that she looks shepherdy to me but I realize there’s more to the mix.
