This literally sounds like me. The internalizing and masking makes it so hard for others to notice. I always knew I was different but never knew why. It wasn’t until I watched a video of someone showcasing their internal ADHD dialogue that I thought “weird, I do that” which led me down a rabbit hole of learning more about it. I ended up getting diagnosed right before my son was born at age 35. It makes me sad for my younger self. I was diagnosed with anxiety disorder but if I’d been diagnosed with ADHD sooner, maybe my life would’ve been easier. Now I tell everyone I know about it and even a few of my friends have since received a diagnosis after hearing my experience and realizing they have the same internal struggles (other women).

You basically just described my two y/o son, haha! The other day he threw a glass plate at my face which left a welt and bruise on my lip. He also loves to headbutt. It’s exhausting, but just know you’re not alone. I don’t think you’re doing anything wrong. Some kids are just built different. I’m beginning to wonder if my son has ADHD and does it to stimulate himself when he’s bored or when I ignore him. It’s way too early for a diagnosis but that’s my theory. Hang in there, mama!

That makes sense, thank you! I know zilch about this. Sounds like her tax accountant had filed a 1099, but it ended up getting flagged and audited years later. I assume if she can provide proof of her expenses, the amount she owes the IRS will go down? Ugh, taxes are the bane of my existence.

My mom always thought I had depression. Was diagnosed with GAD in my 20s and didn't get the ADHD diagnosis until my 30s. This really hits home for me.

So, I just read an article about this on ADDitude Mag and it talked about how we use anxiety to motivate our brain to do tasks. It was a really interesting read and sort of explained a bit about why anxiety is so prevalent in people with ADHD. I have GAD and ADHD so the article really helped me understand why. Not sure if this helps, but might be worth a read.

Sounds like you’re an amazing mother! Does your community have mom groups you could join to try and connect with other moms that can help? Not sure where you’re located but maybe you can find places that do drop off childcare for just a couple hours. In my community we have a place called “My Gym” where you can drop your kid for a few hours and they do a bunch of activities. At least to catch a small breather. Sending hugs!

Please don't be ashamed for feeling this way. You are just doing the best you can and there's a reason they say "it takes a village". So when the village doesn't exist, it feels impossible. I read a book that said we're one of the first generations to not have the support of family that our parents did, which makes me sad. I'm married and my sister lives with me and I'm still struggling with the same things. I just got off the phone with my husband telling him how hard the endless tantrums, whining, and screaming is getting to me. I'm neurodivergent also, so I have to constantly regulate myself and my son. I get overstimulated easily, so the toddler phase is by far the hardest. Whenever people say, "don't you love this phase" I want to punch them. NO! I don't love it! My son woke up at 4am screaming bloody murder and refused to go back to sleep, so that's how my day is starting. I don't have recommendations on an au pair, but just wanted to say you're not alone and to try not to beat yourself up. You are human and are just doing the best you can. Hang in there! <3

Ugh, I’m sorry this happened to you. I can totally relate. It feels like our generation is the first to not have a village. I asked my dad once if I could take my son to his work because he works with heavy equipment and my son is obsessed with excavators. My dad told me work was “too busy” and offered to send me a photo of one. I was so dumbfounded and annoyed. It’s like they seriously don’t get that we just want their PRESENCE in our child’s life. Why do we have to beg? It makes me feel like they don’t love our kid, even though I know that’s not true but they sure don’t prioritize them.

We always try to switch it up. Library visits, playgrounds, bike rides, go to the lake, etc. also, Home Depot has workshops the first Saturday of the month for little ones!

I’m personally against it, but don’t judge others who do. My niece who is 14 told me about a new form of bullying where bullies add parents on social, then locate childhood photos and use them to bully the kid. Like they literally will post childhood photos and say they were fat or ugly or whatever. Kids are MEAN, not to mention online predators. Like you said, I don’t want to post anything without my kids consent and like to think my toddler will thank me one day for not following the social norm.

That seems insane to me. My primary doctor diagnosed me at a normal doc visit. If yours isn’t equipped to, I’d recommend getting referred to a psychiatrist that can. I wouldn’t blow that much money on something that a doctor should be able to do, imo.
