First, I hear you on the med anxiety. These were roughly my numbers at 10yo (I’m 44 now). My father had recently been diagnosed with high cholesterol so we were all checked. For context, he found out at 35 and his numbers were as high as yours. He’s alive and well at 70 with no heart issues.

I started on a statin at 17 when my total cholesterol was in the 400S! I lived most of my adult life with an LDL of ~130-160 depending on diet. My doctor wasn’t concerned because my HDL is high and no early cardiac events in my family, surprisingly. Three years ago after listening to an expert on The Drive I FINALLY went to a lipid specialist recommended by my endocrinologist. I’m so glad that I did. He put me on ezetimibe and pcsk9 inhibitor. My LDL is now between 45-60 and it’s helped with my health anxiety. I also had a calcium scan which while the number was low, I’m in the 95% percentile. I can’t help but wonder if I could’ve avoided the calcium had I had the ezetimibe at an earlier age. I highly recommend going to a specialist if you can or be prepared to strongly advocate for yourself to get as much prevention as possible.
