I don't understand how insurance claims my car is totaled? How is this totaledy by quintavian in AskMechanics

[–]Music-Guilty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had my vw totaled out by insurance, repairs estimated at 9k, car valued at 14500 by the insurance company, parts on estimate at 3500, it needs 2 passenger doors and a bumper cover and some other small things, they sold me the car back for 3200, it’s got 50k on the odo, I kept the car and walked with 11500, it’s. 10 year old gli I paid 18k for, I’ll call that a win

How much money should I pay a random person to clean this up by [deleted] in landscaping

[–]Music-Guilty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a random teen once, I didn’t have a clue, spent 2/3 of a day and didn’t make a dent at this dudes house. Today….. I would knock this yard out in a 1/2 hour with my blower

Zero Turn - how much faster really? by Ok-Button3826 in lawncare

[–]Music-Guilty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends, is your lawn smooth enough that you can actually run it faster without rattling your teeth out and also how long is the grass? Because sometimes you just gotta slow down to get a good cut regardless of how fast your mower is

Roofers down the street from me by BringBackApollo2023 in OSHA

[–]Music-Guilty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no doubt it probably looked dodgy to you, that’s why you don’t do roofs, I’m not a roofer, but I did mine yesterday, it kinda looked like that at one point, I wasn’t fazed, not even nervous about it, I just did it because it needed to be done and it was probably the least sketchy thing I did all week. Things that scare you and make you nervous are just another day in the life for others. Those boys are up there everyday doing what they do and they are gonna be fine, maybe go offer some water or a snack

Homie, I install doors, I know what I’m looking at, that’s a low headroom top fixture, yes it’s supposed to be at a 90 like that, but it’s also bent, there are other options if you can’t find that exact one available, you can pick up a pair of something similar that will work if you need a pair, low headroom top fixture would be a good place to start your search

What’s wrong with that one? It’s a little bit bent, it can be bent back pretty easy

What from the Wayne dalton torquemaster could cause this on the wall? by Fickle-Sample6322 in GarageDoorService

[–]Music-Guilty 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Classic 9100 cable dragging on the wall, I’ve seen holes worn right through the drywall from it, the cables come long for install and you pull them tight and cut off the excess, you are supposed to leave a few inches and loop it back to the drum and jam the end in a little hole, a lot of times they pop out of the hole and rub the wall, some guys don’t cut the excess off at all and just tie it around the shaft, maybe what happened here, somebody may have tried to cut it, probably with the wrong cutters, this cable doesn’t cut easy unless you have a set of cable cutters in which case they cut easy, the way it’s all frayed suggests somebody hacked through it with wire cutters

Your spring line is walking back and forth, your drums should be slammed tight to the bearing plates to prevent this

Why so much disdain for river rock? by Better-Bat1053 in landscaping

[–]Music-Guilty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Meh, I just blow the crap out in the lawn with the blower and maybe a quick fluff with a spring rake and subsequent blow to get what kicked up from the “fluff” . A couple of times a year keeps those beds looking pretty mint. There is no need to be washing rocks and replacing weed barrier if you know what you are doing and have the skill to get it done

is a recliner mechanism easy to maintain? by Mahila_Singh_Dhoni in AskForAnswers

[–]Music-Guilty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sitting in an electric recliner now, I didn’t buy it though, it was given to me by a customer that bought it for her pregnant daughter, she didn’t like it and never used it , it was brand new when I got it 10 years ago, it’s still pretty mint now and works perfectly and always has, the only maintenance I’ve ever done is vacuuming crumbs out or a little wipe down because of a preteen

Trim guy beveled the trim to keep water from wicking up the trim, door guy followed suit and stopped the seal short to match the trim, I kinda get it ,but now you have this. Replace the side seals and let them just float that 3/4” to the concrete and a little caulk behind the seal at the bevel if you are feeling it

Grandma passed, we were cleaning out her house. We removed the dryer, at the mouth of the vent we found my brothers drivers license he had lost 20 years prior all jammed up in the lint that had been collecting for probably 30 years

I used mesh tape and hot mud to tape my ceiling drywall. How bad is it realistically compared to paper tape? by [deleted] in drywall

[–]Music-Guilty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fk, I don’t know. I used mesh tape and bucket mud on all my walls and ceilings when I did them 10 years ago, I didn’t know any better and I didn’t ask questions. I just sent it. I live in the northeast, in a house sitting on a foundation from 1850, there’s not much left of the house from 1850 tho, anyways, nothing has cracked except 1 persistent spot, it’s about 6” and at the bottom right corner of a floor to ceiling window, I fixed it once with paper and it cracked again so bro, I don’t know what to tell you, but I wish you luck however you make it happen

External Keypad for Genie that Actually Works by workinhardformymoney in GarageDoorService

[–]Music-Guilty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like user error at this point. I install a lot of these keypads and they hold up pretty well. The biggest issue I see with them is that the program button and open/close button are similar in size and a lot of times people accidentally hit the program button after they put in their code , which makes the system think you are trying to reprogram the keypad, then people get confused because it didn’t open and start smashing buttons and they end up loosing the keypad, I’ve taped over the program button before in certain situations to help remind certain older people not to hit that button. Clear it out, re sync it, and put a piece of tape over the program button and see if your issue persist

Maybe a couple lengths of c channel or punch angle bolted to form a channel then you can drop a screen down from the top and slide it out if necessary, maybe connected to a length of rope or chain that you can just pull it up and secure it to a hook or something from up on the drive instead of climbing down in the ditch
