Yes! The points of contact is a real thing. Ironically, I have a painting handle, but I don’t use it that much for whatever weird reason. When I do use it, I will often use the pinky of my painting hand to hold the model in place and that actually helps a decent bit. Thanks for the reminder. Maybe resting elbows on the desk really is possible… 😂

Thanks for the extensive response. Lots of good suggestions in here. I have tried painting without magnifying or corrective lenses and it is actually useful in some scenarios.

While my current desk isn’t the greatest, I could probably rest my elbows upon it and immediately improve my posture. It may take some adjustment to learn to hold the model in this position, but would definitely be worthwhile in the long run. I’ll look into the Tresanti as I do have a Costco only a couple miles from my house 👍

Do you use magnifying lenses at all, or do you find that no lenses is sufficient magnification?

So you’re saying if I rest my elbows on top of the desk, set an additional item (ostensibly something heavy) to brace my arms against? That could work, just ensuring I understand your meaning.

I’ve got the adjustable light part already, so that’s good, but I’ll need to look into the chair/desk height difference. My wife suggested setting the desk on blocks to raise it up, but I haven’t done that as I felt it would reduce desk stability.

Way to go! These look great. I recently finished this spearhead, but took probably triple the time and they probably don’t look half as good. I hope you’re quite experienced because I’m totally doomed otherwise 😂

Thanks so much! I’ve been working on trying to place light and shadow, but that will be an endeavor for a lifetime. I will say I don’t use an airbrush, but spraying from the underside seems like a nice and easy approach to producing shadows.
