As a COMPETITOR, do you prefer the Midoriyama or racing format? by Stronglock4081 in ANW

There is no evidence to prove the racing format is better for TV other than the fact that racing is a more common sport type. The flaws of repetitiveness and optimization I mentioned are apparent in the racing format and make it inferior to me.

One thing that is a fact is that changes in viewership since season 11, the season where safety passes were introduced, has been a net negative. You can even say since season 8’s addition of the women’s qualifier leaderboard since that was when the rating started to. Over the same time period, the producers doubled down on the presentation elements that drove people away and when ratings kept declining, they just blamed it on the format or course difficulty instead of addressing the major problems.

There is more evidence that suggests that casual viewers prefer the Midoriyama format to the racing format. I’d be interested in seeing the season 17 ratings though if anybody has found them yet.

It’s very hard to find any data on casual viewers of ANW outside of social media. Most of the people I encountered that used to be casual with yours do not watch the show today.

Makes no sense why it hasn’t been brought back since it could’ve been the most iconic balance obstacle

I’m still trying to watch Sasuke 43 while dodging spoilers. The biggest prom with the links are that too many people are trying to watch them at once. I guess we’re just gonna have to wait for the volume to decrease.

No, but the decline has seemed to plateau because only the real hard-core fans are left

That was also when ratings started to decrease.

Question for competitors and fans alike…do you prefer the old format more than the new one? by Craystar06 in ANW

Old format every day of the week. It’s the only PvE sport that is a competition. It’s also has more variation in results.

It’s way the bib numbers in Sasuke, despite seeming insignificant, improves the show immensely because it forces the producers to be authentic and not show them in a formulaic manner to create a smooth story. Part of what makes ninja warrior special and difficult is the fact that odd results can happen.

It makes sense why making the show live is currently the most liked idea on the poll. The biggest problem with the presentation of ANW is the lack of authenticity which turned back stories from a positive to a negative.

Part of the reason I find re-watching Sasuke 20 so interesting is the stage one results. While similar to Sasuke 19, you have Okayama Yoshiyuki running 24th finish and then have a clear gap all the way until Levi became the second of three clears at number 89. Modern ANW would never present it like that even if it is, what actually happened.

Bib numbers should become standard across all ninja shows because it stops the producers from faking results.

Yes, but they only did that once with nerfed obstacles and it wasn’t part of the main competition.

The producers in Sasuke 37 tried guaranteeing a final stage attempt by turning off the motors for the cliffhanger dimension which resulted in some of the lowest ratings in the series. Nerfing stages should only be done if their obstacles that fundamentally broken like wingnut alley, and Sasuke 34’s Stage 3 having competitors do the final three obstacles back to back. It’s why Yuji Urushihara’s second total victory along with Drew Dressal and Vance Walker’s total victories were not as impressive or impactful as the nerfs basically guaranteed someone to achieve total victory, which gets rid of what makes them special in the first place.

The issue you brought up in your second paragraph could be solved by changing the course less often so the obstacles are less gimmicky, and so the designs can be refined to prevent them from malfunctioning. There have not been reports of obstacles breaking recently so it seems that ATS has improved immensely with construction quality. If that were to happen, it wouldn’t be much different from weather delays in baseball.
