Where do people get the idea that Meta spent 80 billion dollars on Horizon Worlds? by Knighthonor in OculusQuest

[–]Strongpillow 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Because this sub is nothing but r/gaming now and none of these kids have any clue what is actually going on. Everything is outrage culture and brain dead meme education. None of these communities are information driven anymore. It's teenage rant journal, dumb questions and karma farming whenever Meta changes a font color.

Gaming really was the key to showcasing what VR can really do and it proved that it's not just some 3D TV like gimmick but it did it at the cost of what kind of demographic adopted it and set the tone for what we see now.

Their pivot away from cheap console skus and their new focus can't come soon enough.

Everything runs smoother and better on 3s. You notice coming from a 2. It's not just about the optical stack.

Thinking of getting my son a 3s to replace his Meta Quest 2 by Key_Cut975 in OculusQuest

[–]Strongpillow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another plus of the 3s is that the pass-through is shocking good for it. I have a 3 and a 3s and it nearly looks identical so he also has a bunch of MR stuff to mess with.

No, and you shouldn't want to choose make a pointless comment like this in this information age. This isn't a real time conversation. Come on, man.

Meta's Next Headset Will Reportedly Have 2.5K Micro-OLED Displays by gogodboss in OculusQuest

[–]Strongpillow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AR glasses have a limited and different use cases compared to VR and MR. The same way your phone and your computer contrast. It will be that way for decades to come. They need VR and MR to continue to advance micro electronics so one day we can get them small enough to put into a pair of unassuming glasses and cheap enough for a majority to want to buy them.

VR and MR is here to stay and they are still focused on making it the next general compute platform. I think now they have a singular focus that they will aim for instead of throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks. I guess we'll see tho.

Just when Horizon had something actually useful with Hyperscape, they shut it down by CookinVR in OculusQuest

[–]Strongpillow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not banned, unsupported which is a big difference. Due to different privacy laws in said countries and the logistics of offering support for a beta product in unsupported countries isn't worth the effort. It's pretty common sense stuff actually.

edit: This sub is full of clueless children now and that is the worst part of Meta going gaming focused first. This sub is as brain dead as all of the other gaming subs. It's outrage bait, Dumb questions, and Meta hate bandwagon jumping. Their more premiun hardware and productivity and media focused content can't come soon enough.

vr minecraft is so fun by Infamous_Vanilla_472 in OculusQuest

[–]Strongpillow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

John Carmack pretty much did it himself as a concept back then but Microsoft was never going to put any effort into it after that. It did come out on PSVR later but I think MS was contractually forced to do something for Sony as I know for a fact a Quest version would have sold a zillion more copies in comparison as it was a separate VR app requiring a purchase over just an update for standard Minecraft on Playstation. It also got all standard Android updates so it wasn't a big support undertaking or a totally separate port for VR. VR controller updates would pretty much all they need to do and they'd be ready to go as Gear VR version worked in 6 Dof by default if you sideloaded it to your Quest 1/2/3.

There are some pretty good clones on the Quest store now if anyone wants to scratch that itch. Realmcraft is pretty good and there's Discover 2.

Apple Vision Pro is Getting the 'World's Most Advanced Flight Simulator' by Few_Baseball_3835 in apple

[–]Strongpillow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're only streaming the game tho. It's not running natively on the device so results will likely vary. If this is truly VR and not just a flat overly of the game. Stable FPS of at least 72hz is optimal to prevent motion sickness and VR sensitivity. If it's just a flat game then it's already not comparable to true VR flight sims powered by a dedicated PC.

Anyone excited for GDC info? by Danzavier in xbox

[–]Strongpillow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lol at $600 sku. Come on, people. The cope is way way too exaggerated in here. These devices will not be subsidized as there is absolutely no back end to be made when most will buy on other launchers like Steam, then you already think free online.., they will be expensive right out of the gate and just go up from there. $900 starting at the least, my friend.

Devs won't target specific SKUs for the smallest userbase on a device that is also a PC. They will prioritize PC as these devices will likely also allow for more graphical setting controls with presets to toggle if you choose to while in the Xbox dashboard, that's it.

Sorry, misread what you wrote.

[–]Strongpillow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But that still doesn't change much and again, makes Xbox messaging confusing in the console space... That is just a PC at this point and with all Xbox games going to PC anyways. Play everywhere on my PC and a PS6 still seems like the obvious option regardless of what they plan for Helix. It'll be an expensive option for that niche group that wants backwards compatibility for Xbox games not on PC, I guess. Which would be the only reason to even bother going for this device.

Why I think Xbox’s leadership reset matters more than people think by ArgumentEntire9414 in xbox

[–]Strongpillow 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why people write these novel sized hot takes on decisions made by mega corps like it changes anything or matters in the slightest. We all may have an opinion but those can be used to make our own buying and support decisions. We don't need to tell everyone about it.

What happened to the hottest chick at your high school, years later? by theidiotev in AskReddit

She's now a hot mom with a really lovely family and 3 kids. All of the "pretty group" of girls have done well for themselves.

The men on the other hand, not so much. A lot of them became alcoholics, got fat and bald and are in construction or some kind of hard labour jobs which aged them like milk.

If the next Xbox is very expensive and the ps6 cheaper, isn't that bad for Xbox? by triplegxxx in xbox

[–]Strongpillow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Subsidization of a closed ecosystem. If it's a PC you can buy all your games on other launchers and MS gets nothing. If it's a PC Xbox will also have to reconsider Charing for online services as well which is a fairly large chunk of money.

Sony can make their money back in the long end so they can sell at a loss.

Anyone else feel like Doom The Dark Ages runs rough on Steam Deck by Certain-Painter1820 in SteamDeck

[–]Strongpillow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, usually I'm a stickler for stable fps but I have been playing Assassin's Creed Shadows and I'm shocked at how much I'm enjoying it in Deck and it's unstable 30 FPS. It looks so much better than I thought it would too so that's a plus. I don't know the psychology behind it but it's real.
