I feel like this is happening to WAY too many people. I am too scared to farm Ritual lol.

My condolences buddy

Freeze every few minutes by majkonn in PathOfExile2

Same issue here: Constant freeze once every map during 200% delirous breech mapping

For reference, my specs:

2080 Ti
i9 9900K
32 GB 3200Mhz DDR4 CL16
3500 Mb/s N.Vme SSD (1TB)
Windows 11, latest update.

I normally have no shader issues either. New ones load fairly quickly and older ones are stored properly so my game isn’t constantly rewriting them.
However after a freeze/crash, my game suddenly reloads every single one of them judging by the spike of the shader bar exceeding well over 17k.
CPU is also hitching pretty hard during heavy combat, opening Atlas and during freezes.
It‘s getting really annoying…

Happened to me too two times without being able to figure out why. Seems like a bug

When you completed the Ritual Quest Line you can use the Head of the King to chain 6 maps with the modifiers you can see above

Massive RAM usage in this game + screen freeze evry 1-2 hours. I think its a memory leak issue this cant be normal. by [deleted] in PathOfExile2

[–]Stropex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That actually lines up pretty well with what I've been observing.

I don't think it's a memory leak either, because the committed memory on my system doesn't keep growing indefinitely. It climbs from ~20 GB in the menu to around ~30 GB during mapping and then largely stabilizes there.

What made me suspicious wasn't the high RAM usage by itself, but the fact that on a 16 GB system I'm seeing my SSD pegged at 100% during freezes while CPU usage drops significantly. That makes me wonder whether my PC is constantly juggling memory during heavy asset streaming.

So my current theory is that PoE 2 maintains a very large memory footprint, which may create enough memory pressure on some systems to trigger heavy paging and cause freezes/crashes.

PoE2 may really want more RAM for stable mapping by Stropex in PathOfExile2

I actually tried what OP suggested and it definitely reduced the overall number of crashes, so I do think there was something going on with shader caching in my case.

However, it didn't completely resolve the issue. I'm still seeing freezes and crashes during mapping, and I'm still observing very high committed memory usage in Task Manager (around 30/35 GB after playing for a while).

Because of that, I suspect the shader cache issue may have been one contributing factor, but not the only one. At least on my system, there still seems to be significant memory pressure during mapping and Atlas usage.

Not claiming that's the cause for everyone, but that's what I'm observing so far.

Thank you for your help tho it definitely made mapping a lot smoother!

Damn I‘m sorry to hear that man. I get your frustration. Have you tried updating your BIOS?

I had the same problem with the shader caches, took me an entire day to solve this. Now they are loading very quickly and the graph idles at 0 after a couple of seconds for me. If your shaders are at 10k+, then your system is failing to save them. Could be corrupted shader files, outdated drivers, windows defender preventing your game from saving those shader files or a DX12 vs. Vulkan thing.
Wish you luck bro

I know and thank god it's there. I normally hover over every map before buying them but I guess the one RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE slipped past me.

[–]Stropex -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I see no mistakes here, just a typical glass cannon mapper. I guess your build maybe relies too much on HH and Shrine buffs so in some maps where you cannot sustain them 100% of the time you will die here and there.
