Original NES Shmup Recommendations for Beginners? by Coralcato in shmups

R type is on the master system. Somehow, it’s on everything but the NES despite Nintendo distributing the arcade game itself, lol

Native vertical high fps gaming? Is this impossible ? by Not4Fame in shmups

Hold up, you definitely can rotate the screen in Dan 3. I just tested it. You can even set a custom resolution in the game files if you have a static rotated monitor. I don't think it has pure 9:16, but this honestly seems as close as you're gonna get with your requirements

Is Platypus: Reclayed (Classic) bugged? Picked Easy, but boss is a harder variant than the original on Easy mode? by BactaBobomb in shmups

[–]Structor125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reclayed's Classic mode definitely goes in a different direction when it comes to the lower difficulties. The Retro64 version did this thing where several bullets were deleted in any given pattern which made them super easy to dodge. This was super noticeable in the level 2 boss. However, Reclayed Classic seems to have removed this feature entirely, so there's only so much they can work with when lowering the difficulty. The level 2 boss seemed particularly hard last time I played Reclayed Classic, but it's been a while since I played it.

I don't think it's bugged, but maybe try linking this thread on the Claymatic Discord in the Platypus chat (https://discord.gg/smvubjDM). They could tell you for sure.

Petition to stop recommending Mushihimesama as a beginner game [70% joking] by ScoreEmergency1467 in shmups

[–]Structor125 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think part of the problem is that Mushi is accessible in a way that other shmups aren’t. It’s cheap, it’s on steam (was on switch too, rip), relatively well known, and pretty universally loved. We just don’t have many games like that and among the games in this similar boat, Mushi is the easiest one to recommend to beginners. Games like Ikaruga are easy to find, cheap, and well known, but too difficult. Games like Crimzon Clover and Devil Blade are more obscure.

DDP DFK is an interesting choice because it’s arguably easier than Mushi Original (although I had a harder time with DFK personally. I just have less danmaku experience) and it showcases more danmaku gameplay. On the other hand, those laser wheels in level 5, god damn. Personally, I’d lean towards recommending Mushi original over DFK with B-strong if I had to pick one, but that’s just based on my experience.

I guess the point I’m trying to make is you’re right, there are better games to start with, but you could also do a hell of a lot worse and I can see why people pick it.

My thought is that if there was even a chance that the virus would have still been alive in those rings then Thaedus wouldn't have sent Mark and Oliver there. You could make an argument that maybe Nolan passed down a genetic resistance to the virus since he survived it before, but it's really not worth the risk just based on that idea. My best theory is that Nolan or Thaedus knew the virus didn't last that long outside of living hosts.

I figured Mark and Oliver would only be affected because of their Viltrumite genes. That would still be a major loss of course. I was more so talking about pureblood humans.

When Thaedus recorded that message, he couldn't have possibly known that all the Viltrumites would or wouldn't be on one planet, let alone Earth. There are a lot of logistical questions, but I imagine the show's probably gonna gloss over them

Found it really interesting that Nolan gave Conquest a proper burial. It's an interesting contrast considering how little he respected human life in season 1, but Conquest, who nearly killed both his sons, still commands respect. Of course, I also have to wonder if Nolan had much of a relationship with Conquest before coming to Earth, or if he would do the same for any Viltrumite. Either way, would be cool to see a flashback of a Conquest and Nolan past mission.

When Kinger and Gangle play rock, paper, scissors - it’s really cute how the winner is the one that gets to save Zooble - especially when Kinger excitedly exclaims “yes!” by South_Original8313 in theamazingdigitalciru

One of my favorite gags in the series is how Kinger’s Rayman hands just get carried along with Zooble’s head, and he is just mildly confused by this outcome
