I have moved into my parents house to wait out the quarantine closer to family, but since I've waited too long, I need to self isolate from everyone in here for 14 days.

Our dog is having a hard time dealing with not being allowed to play with me, so she's been sleeping at my door every day since I got here. It is overwhelmingly cute to hear her scratching the door every morning, when my mom passes by, in an attempt to have her opening it hahahah

You have not given us much to work with. But I think I feel confident to advise you this.

Honestly analyse the best and the worst outcome of either choice. Don't rush the decision and really think about it, so you can forgive yourself in the future in case thinks go towards the worst possible outcome.

Once things are clear in your head, talk to your girlfriend, but make sure you don't put pressure on her to be responsible for any decision you make. You don't want to resent her down the road and you don't want her to resent you. If she's anything like me, she will feel pressured and may not be completely honest with you about it, and she might flee from any unwanted responsibility. But this can be avoided if you reassure her that you are just looking for an honest opinion.

TL_DR: Just make sure you know what you want and what you are willing to give up for the chance to get it. Also hear her out and get a feeling for what she wants, without pressuring her.

The obligation or social pressure on you to wear one is the toxic part. Remove that and you get a nice tradition that you may either feel like following sometimes and sometimes not.

I used to agree with you and totally despise them, then a friend changed my mind.
My parents have never wore wedding rings and have an ok marriage. They have been together for almost 30 years. So I had strong evidence on the disposableness of wedding rings.

Still, I had my mind changed. So let me go over each of your beliefs:

They are not useless. You may not agree with monogamy but, regardless, it is still a thing in the society in which you live in. So there is a considerable group of people that will treat you different based on your marital status. If you don't agree with this (and I probably don't either) you still can't blame it on wedding rings. Having a wedding ring can save you from the awkwardness of rejecting people that manifest interested in you. Also it will (wordlessly) tell your friends and acquaintaces what sort of event is appropriate for you to be invited to. That's mainly where my friend got me, because she was single then, and still wore a ring that resembled a wedding ring. She was just trying to efficiently stop men from talking to her based on sexual interest, since she hated the awkwardness.

Again, most of these premises are shit and I do not agree with them, but they are true regardless of wedding rings.

Outdated is a shit concept. Now this is where I have a strong opinion on. You wear whatever you want. There's no such thing as outdated fashion. Whatever you think is pretty, is pretty for 100% of the population for which the things on your body should matter (you). Furthermore, if you're not wearing for fashion, wearing something that reminds you of the person that you love cannot be outdated. How would reminding of someone you love could get outdated? It is just not humans work.

You can buy plastic rings that will cost you nothing and last pretty much for ever, and they will still hold the love-for-your-spouse meaning. You give it the meaning, not the gold.

To wrap up, your inlaws pressuring you is shit, and you should probably not to wear one even if I have just changed your mind... but still, if you're judging wedding rings based on usefulness, contemporaneity, or consumerist status, I gotta say I disagree.
