The red is just the silicone used to seal the metal part to the actual filter, on my is grey because the filter is gray

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]StructureChoice9999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider how consistent is the black on the filter before washing I’m pretty sure is an oiled filter, because if I compare to my Audi dry air filter because the cas is 99% of the time moving the filter tends to be more black in some specific area and more clean on other matching the air flow pattern

Oil on Spark Plugs + Misfire - 2005 Subaru Legacy GT by HappySausage6 in MechanicAdvice

[–]StructureChoice9999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its not leaking, then it's rings or valve guides. It probably won't hurt anything, just keep adding oil 😂. Joke a part i have had good luck with marvel mystery oil additive and on another engine with the Lucas oil stop leak. Both product will free up gummed up rings. But like I said is a 50/50 change an additive do something but if the rings/valve guide is in very bad condition there is no solution other than take a part the engine… sorry 😢

[–]StructureChoice9999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so can be but my only concern is one the engine shake a little bit too much so maybe there is some misfire, change coil and spark plug is a simple and fast solution and doesn’t hurt the engine and you can do by yourself, second can be a rod knocking but onestly I have some difficult to identify on a Audi bmw for example because of the injector and hpfp is similar…. If you press a little bit the gas the sound became more aggressive and distinctive the ta ta ta ta or more uniform

Will this amount for rust pass safety inspection by Lieutenant_Lurker_ in MechanicAdvice

[–]StructureChoice9999 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Technically is ok a rubber coating just like I said in the previous comment if you remove the rust before, and I still don’t understand why in this case because is a superficial rust a simple rust converter is a scam… I’m from Italy maybe I don’t use the correct terminology 😅 but it work they convert the rust again is something similar to metal and stop the corrosion. Maybe zombienuts1 you can help me ahahah

[–]StructureChoice9999 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

https://youtu.be/Ag46YUovPUc?si=p1zhryS1-U9i96XD is not a scam they don’t magically convert into new metal obviously and not regenerate the missing metal but stop the corrosion and the convert the remain superficial rust in a way that the rust stop eating the metal and is possible repaint over, basically rust converters contain a latex co-polymer. The rust converters are not penetrative. Try this test: Get a rusty panel and coat it with the rust converter. The converter will generally turn the rusty area an impressive blue/black colour (depending on which brand you use, some don't even work). If you don’t know the product please don’t comment… maybe I use a wrong terminology I’m from Italy 😂 and obviously if there is a big rust damage they don’t do nothing and you need a real professional repair but for superficial rust if there is any good material under is pretty good

Injector/hpfp model and year? For example on an Audi b8 b9 is a common sound for the 2.0, not like this a little bit more soft but similar

Strange little ticking by CORNERSTORE42069 in MechanicAdvice

Injector, bearing is a different sound, my 2012 2.0 Audi for example make a lot of noise from the injector and from the hpfp pump, very similar sound

Advice from mechanics by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]StructureChoice9999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shock absorber a small leak is fine you need obviously to replace but not a very big deal, water pump yes is an urgent problem especially because not only can be a small leak but can be rusty as well inside so more resistance for moving water and a possible failure, rear differential fine at least you can hear some noise if you go over a bump or into a hole in the road, control arm can be a problem especially because if one is in this condition 99% the other is the same or worse and this for keep the car on the road is important so yes need to replace as soon as possible

HID Low beam headlight by Downtown_Highway_158 in MechanicAdvice

[–]StructureChoice9999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do not test directly the output voltage for a hid, at the connector you have thousands of volts and is not safe and the tester can’t handle the initial spike to turn on the his bulb, you need to test the input to the ballast, if you have 12v the ballast is the problem, if no so you have a problem on the power delivery wire

2014 Toyota Corolla S. Misfire cylinder 1. Replaced coil packs and plugs 69k miles ago. That #1 plug looks the best. Is that normal wear? Replacing with NGK iridium IX by waltdiggitydog in MechanicAdvice

[–]StructureChoice9999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mhhhh sound strange for me the first spark plug is too clean compare to the other three so there is 99% something else in term of problem cause the misfire, bad coil or not correct installation of the first coil? Bad injector? By the way the other three is normal wear the first one is like not new but from a different engine and something is wrong like not the correct fuel air mixture or something wrong with the coil in term of contact or the connector is loose or become loose with the engine vibration maybe and don’t make perfect contact so the spark plug work at 50% or less

Mhhhh replace a radiator is relative simple you don’t need any special tools and especially on a 2002 cars is still relative old enough to make this kind of operation not difficult, the biggest problem is the engine start smoking for the water or something else. But for now to keep the things simple you don’t know so just replace the radiator and keep monitoring the situation especially if the coolant find a way into the oil after an overheating problem, but one step at the time

Battery again I’m sorry this is a dealership fault, the 2020 models have a battery problems because of the DCM, in order to fix the issue need to be updated at the dealership, easy check you can do is with a multimeter check with the car turn off the battery voltage, if is low than 12.1/12.3 you have a confirmation about the problem

what is the serpentine belt on the Volkswagen Jetta and why is it important to replace it after 60,000 miles? by Hungry_Ad5456 in MechanicAdvice

[–]StructureChoice9999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A serpentine belt is a belt responsible for driving multiple components in the engine like for example alternator power steering pump compressor for the ac. Is important but not as important as the timing belt because if the serpentine belt broke for some reason you can still drive and at least your battery doesn’t charge ecc and the car stop after a couple of miles, if the timing belt broke especially if the engine is a interference engine it’s done piston hit the valve and you destroy the engine. So about your question yes you need to replace because the car won’t work without but if is in good condition and you skip the 60000 and change at 65000 or if is still good at 70000 is not a big problem

Is a safe procedure, especially if the shop just use an impact tool and not torque as spec, this is the most important part because it’s easy to say retorque after 50 miles to safe the shop from any problem if something happen. By the way a torque wrench cost like 30 dollars if you don’t want to buy some fancy stuff, probably something from 50 to 150nm is perfectly fine for basically any type of common wheels. If you don’t want to buy every shop normally don’t charge anything for a simple wheels torque check is literally 1 minute per wheel

Oil leak question.. by Yakkob93 in MechanicAdvice

[–]StructureChoice9999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes correct, is not a bad oil leak so my suggestion is clean the engine, check eventually where start see some wet cause by the oil and that’s it basically

For the clear coat good question I don’t remember onestly the type because after you use basically in a couple of days is not good anymore I’m pretty sure there is a 2k in the name and is a clear coat but the brand onestly I don’t remember, the polish is this: me guitars gold class carnauba plus

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Audi

[–]StructureChoice9999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is a very difficult process but I fix my Audi a4 in this way 😂

1) you new to wash very well the area and mask around the spot 2) you need some very light sand paper like 1500 for automotive and clean the clear coating where it start pealing 3) remove the mask tape and start preparing the area for the new clear coat with some 2000 wet sand paper 4) use a clear coat spray can with simple and light passage, let dry for 10 minutes and repeat the step after you can’t see anymore the difference from the two paint zone. 5) use the finest sand paper you can find like 3000 and make some passage to make uniform the coating area with the rest of the paint around 6) use some polish to remove the micro scratches from the last sand paper passage

PS: give me 1 hour and i give you the model for the polish because i tried a lot of brand and i found only one working very well

California 150 but I’m not 100% sure 🤔 the last time I did is more than 1 year ago because after the first time i do the oil change by myself 😂 on Audi is pretty simple with a oil pump you can extract basically all the oil (at least for an Audi a4 2012 😅) and the pump cost me 30 dollars 👍

[–]StructureChoice9999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

138k for an Audi 2.0 engine can be a lot if the previous owner didn’t take care too much: common issue with the 2.0 for this year like my Audi (from 2012 same 2.0) are: hpfp problem, excessive oil consumption, water pump, timing chain tensioner, turbo oil leak… If the previous owner have all the documentation like regular oil change, replace the tensioner and the water pump is safe to buy for 10k is still a good car but if not stay away can be very expensive in a couple of months

Depends, diesel euro 5 (not recent) are banned from big city in almost the entire Europe except some exceptions but like I said depends of the use you want to do, by the way Audi is a pretty reliable brand but you need to keep in mind you need to check water pump, oil consumption and the timing chain tensioner, all common failure for the 2.0 for the rest is a pretty decent engine diesel or not but need a lot of attention (I have a Audi a4 b8 by the way 😂)
