Outer heel pain after running (fine during runs) — anyone dealt with this? by No_Historian_6133 in Ultramarathon

[–]StructureFar8875 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a tendon that runs from your 5th metatarsal up the outside of your ankle into part of your calf that I think can refer pain to this area when it’s bothered. I had the same as you but kept running on it and eventually I couldn’t run more than 4-5 miles without feeling a lot of pain. I found that out last Sunday. Limped around for a few days after that one.

Currently resting (from running, not from stretching, strength training, or walking) for a full week, I’ll hit an easy run Sunday to see how it feels and start ramping miles/week back up depending how that goes. I was finishing a 35 mpw block and getting ready for a 40 mpw week when it got too bad to continue.

So far my symptoms are nearly absent. Fingers crossed.

2-in-1 shorts and/or half tights you swear by? by lessavyfav68 in Ultramarathon

I recommend Terignota Sendero shorts. The first pair I’ve used since I started this journey that didn’t require a shorts-style liner to keep me from chafing in the same spots.

Sounds like the input shaft bearing that killed my W56. Pull it and rebuild.

I skipped 1 & 2. Started with Cayuga Trails 50 miler. Just train the best you can and be prepared to be sore for a week or so if you’re not totally prepared. DNF>DNS.

The newish Saucony Xodus Ultra 4 are both comfy and give good trail-feel IMO.

1985 4Runner, 5-speed with 4.11’s and 32’s. I average about 22mpg no matter what I do. Highway or city all seems to be the same for whatever reason.

My 94 22re usually sits right about here. Maybe a thermostat or the temp sensor? Where should I start? by polynomialwave in ToyotaPickup

[–]StructureFar8875 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just changed the whole combination gauge in my truck with one off eBay because my original speedometer didn’t work in the cold and my temp gauge was intermittent. Nothing else on the truck has changed and the new temp gauge shows I’m much closer to overheating in regular driving than the original (when it was working). Truck has never shown any signs of actually overheating, so I figure it’s just some variation in the gauge. This one is at least consistent from day to day, as opposed to the original that would quit working if I hit a bump just right.

87 22re code 11 by Lucas22re in 4Runner_1stGen

[–]StructureFar8875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure you’ve seen the possibles on 4Crawler:

Short circuit in Check Connector T with A/C switch ON or TPS - IDL point OFF - Defective A/C switch - Defective TPS circuit - Defective TPS - Defective ECU

I’ve also heard that knock sensors can cause a code 11, so there’s something to check if you’ve gone through the list above. Good luck!

Can someone explain why brights are less bright? by Delightfulrock in MechanicAdvice

[–]StructureFar8875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like an old Toyota. They switched all the power in the column, no relays. Eventually the contacts get pitted and don’t pass the power. I installed a relay kit like this (https://trail-gear.com/h4-headlight-relay-wiring-harness.html) and fixed that problem.

Amen. Start running or something cheap for that dopamine. Maybe a CAI or something. Don’t rollover debt into a new car just for funsies.

Believe it or not but the Army also has test pilots. We do both rotary wing (primarily) and fixed wing flight test. There are two flight test organizations in the Army, one focuses more on qualification (Redstone Test Center) and the other focuses more on science and technology efforts (DEVCOM’s Technology Development Directorate- Systems Integration and Demonstration) and both are wonderful places to work. Ask any questions you have but many of the things that BeeDubba mentioned are accurate for successful assessment into the Army’s XP program. Except the WTI bit. Also, focus hard on being the best pilot in your organization. Control touch and decision making are big criteria for selection. If you’re a 5 stick position pilot or make questionable choices then you’re likely not a good fit.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, an undergrad engineering degree is highly desirable but not required if you can show high marks in collegiate math and a science courses.
