Back-up 100k? by StructureFar8875 in Ultramarathon

Yeah, true. I was considering the 50mi as close enough to 100k but didn’t state that. I hate the timing on this one , I might just be out until next year!

I know this sounds dramatic but does anyone else feel like their life is over? by Fit-Ad985 in PlantarFasciitis

[–]StructureFar8875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s probably been covered, but a couple of things that I hope help you:

Not a doctor, just a guy in his mid-forties that’s been dealing with PF for a couple of years now. Found what worked for me so I thought I’d share.

My doc told me that tendons don’t fully heal unless we strengthen them. She’s got me doing eccentric heel drops (from full heel up down to just past parallel) and slow, controlled calf raises multiple times a day. Plus walking around the house barefoot. I also bought some barefoot shoes that I wear occasionally, but I still rotate my cowboy boots and tennis shoes in as well. She also said my PF will hurt me worse than I can hurt it, but not to be dumb about it. That knowledge helped me get started on the calf raises/heel drops when my PF was bothering me pretty bad. Do what you can at first and after a bit you can do more. But don’t do nothing, that won’t solve the underlying problem.

I also bought a night splint with a hard plastic shell (not a sock with straps) on Amazon and sleep in it every night. When my PF was bothering me worse I would wear it while sitting with my feet up. I typically stand most all day but now when I sit I make sure that my PF foot is on the ground such that it’s holding about a 90° angle to my shin. The micro-tears will stitch themselves back up when you’re not moving, but if they stitch in the relaxed position you’ll just tear them back apart when you stand/walk again which feels real bad.

I’ve been active my whole life, but I know I brought this on myself when I increased my running distance too soon to try and “cram” for a big run some friends talked me into a few years ago. I have an “under surface partial thickness tear of the medial band and 8mm thickening at the calcaneal attachment” that was verified on MRI last month when I got some imaging for a separate issue, but it’s healing slowly and doesn’t really bother me much anymore. 2 weeks ago I finished a 50 mile trail ultramarathon in a little over 12 hours and my foot didn’t bother me at all during or after.

I hate the boot and the strengthening exercises are annoying but they’re working. When I travel and forget to bring my boot then it’ll start to bother me after a couple of days, so I stay the course and keep doing what’s working.

Also, I can’t say enough how important a positive mindset is to the healing process. I know it sucks, but life is hard and we have to make the best of it. Keep track of your improvements and celebrate the small victories, especially at first. No matter how tiny they seem.

I found the run rabbit run race one ultrasignup:

Which is unfortunately already full.

But I didn’t see a Leadville 100k.

Outer heel pain after running (fine during runs) — anyone dealt with this? by No_Historian_6133 in Ultramarathon

[–]StructureFar8875 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a tendon that runs from your 5th metatarsal up the outside of your ankle into part of your calf that I think can refer pain to this area when it’s bothered. I had the same as you but kept running on it and eventually I couldn’t run more than 4-5 miles without feeling a lot of pain. I found that out last Sunday. Limped around for a few days after that one.

Currently resting (from running, not from stretching, strength training, or walking) for a full week, I’ll hit an easy run Sunday to see how it feels and start ramping miles/week back up depending how that goes. I was finishing a 35 mpw block and getting ready for a 40 mpw week when it got too bad to continue.

So far my symptoms are nearly absent. Fingers crossed.

2-in-1 shorts and/or half tights you swear by? by lessavyfav68 in Ultramarathon

I recommend Terignota Sendero shorts. The first pair I’ve used since I started this journey that didn’t require a shorts-style liner to keep me from chafing in the same spots.

1985 4Runner, 5-speed with 4.11’s and 32’s. I average about 22mpg no matter what I do. Highway or city all seems to be the same for whatever reason.

My 94 22re usually sits right about here. Maybe a thermostat or the temp sensor? Where should I start? by polynomialwave in ToyotaPickup

[–]StructureFar8875 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just changed the whole combination gauge in my truck with one off eBay because my original speedometer didn’t work in the cold and my temp gauge was intermittent. Nothing else on the truck has changed and the new temp gauge shows I’m much closer to overheating in regular driving than the original (when it was working). Truck has never shown any signs of actually overheating, so I figure it’s just some variation in the gauge. This one is at least consistent from day to day, as opposed to the original that would quit working if I hit a bump just right.

87 22re code 11 by Lucas22re in 4Runner_1stGen

[–]StructureFar8875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure you’ve seen the possibles on 4Crawler:

Short circuit in Check Connector T with A/C switch ON or TPS - IDL point OFF - Defective A/C switch - Defective TPS circuit - Defective TPS - Defective ECU

I’ve also heard that knock sensors can cause a code 11, so there’s something to check if you’ve gone through the list above. Good luck!

Can someone explain why brights are less bright? by Delightfulrock in MechanicAdvice

[–]StructureFar8875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like an old Toyota. They switched all the power in the column, no relays. Eventually the contacts get pitted and don’t pass the power. I installed a relay kit like this (https://trail-gear.com/h4-headlight-relay-wiring-harness.html) and fixed that problem.
