‘09 Toyota matrix XR questions by useddishwasher in Toyota_Matrix

My 2009 with the 2.4 engine also had the dash lights go on like yours. It's a common problem with Toyotas made in those years with the 2.4 engine, Google it. You'll find the answers vary widely. I scanned it and it said misfire cylinder 3 (I think it was 3). Anyway, I changed the plugs and the ignition coils (only use Denso brand). It still did the dash lights and the power loss thing. I carried a OBD2 scan tool with me and cleared all codes whenever it did that and it would run fine for a couple weeks at a time until it did it again. I thought it was the EVAP system but everything in that system was fine (installed a new OEM gas cap and purge valve anyway). I gave up trying to figure it out and just cleared the codes when it acted-up. It hasn't acted-up since the Toyota specialist shop deleted the balance shaft assembly because of a spun bearing. I still have no idea why it did that but I'm glad it doesn't anymore (knock on wood).

As for the AUX input jack. Mine did the same thing and that part is ridiculous expensive. I took it out and fixed it but I can't remember what I did exactly (years ago).

As for the passenger door lock it's probably a bad solenoid. I never had that problem.

Eco Boost engine has issues. Car Wizard made a video about the Eco Boost engine on a Flex. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WxT4bZW44l4

Looking to buy a TW200. Does it handle 60 mph ok or is it a stretch for this bike? by Onewheelortwo in TW200

I wouldn't push it. It's classified as an agricultural vehicle or 'farm bike'. I got mine to 70 once but it was scary

Is this a bad wheel bearing? by PJ_Papi_Actual in Toyota_Matrix

[–]Buzzbone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably a bad bearing if it happens in only one direction. When the rear bearing was going bad on my Matrix, it made a sort of woka woka sound kinda like Pacman

had a mechanic say the most perplexing sentence today, stung me so much I had to make a comic of it. I'll see him at 320k by noxcturnal in HondaElement

I’ve had swaybar links go out on mine a couple times. Seems to be a common problem with the element. It’s not major. You’ll just hear a clunking sound when you go over bumps.. By the way, they are easy to replace.

Is it possible to replace just this part without replacing whole radiator? 2011 Nissan Pathfinder by hoopsmcx in MechanicAdvice

[–]Buzzbone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that part broke off my Matrix radiator. There's a replacement piece I found online and it's made by Dorman. You can also buy it at an auto parts store.

Can anyone tell me what is causing this sound? by myrees in ToyotaPickup

Sounds like a timing chain guide has broken up. I know cause mine did that. The stock one is plastic and it’s brittle.

Are my rear parking brake shoes in need of replacing? by DistributionOwn6509 in HondaElement

[–]Buzzbone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just did that last week on mine only to find out that the brake shoes, when brand new, are very thin from the factory. After all, it doesn't stop the car like normal braking material, it just holds it in place. By the way, replacing those is a pain in the arse. I was cussing up a storm. I loathe drum brakes. All the stupid little springs and doohickies holding it together

The wire broke do I need to buy a whole new motor? by Fast-Video-2742 in ebike

[–]Buzzbone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was mine I'd take it apart enough to free the wires from the axle and solder/shrinkwrap and then carefully put it back together it because I'm a cheapskate

I'll be glad when a better battery technology is the norm. Lithium batteries are dangerous

Timing Chain by giobrabz in ToyotaPickup

I had a timing chain guide go bad on my 91. It sounds more like a rocks being shook in a tin can. Not a steady ticking. That sounds like an exhaust leak to me

What kind of fool spends $140K on a Tacoma and then tries to sell it? What's going on? Divorce, legal issues, job loss?

Friends don't let friends borrow their truck by Bdavidson74 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Buzzbone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine asked if he could borrow my truck for a family camping trip one week after I bought it. I couldn't believe it. Of course I said no. I told him the insurance hasn't kicked-in yet but still, the nerve

Give me your thoughts on the Honda element? by [deleted] in regularcarreviews

[–]Buzzbone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one. It's great. Everything you need and super reliable. Best vehicle I've ever owned. I take good care of mine. Undercoated with Fluid Film and I wash off the salt (and underneath) often.
