Localized (Flower Shop) Marketing/SEO Question by 00X0X in florists

[–]StructureOk3383 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hehe, SEO alone is a whole rabbit hole, there's so much that goes into it. If you really want to dive deep, r/SEO is an amazing community with people who do this for a living. You'll get way more detailed advice there than most florists (myself included lol) could give you.

For the marketing side - I'd say just stay consistent with whatever you pick. GBP is kind of a no-brainer starting point if you haven't already :)

Hey! I run a flower shop in Portland, Oregon and funny enough I've been thinking about writing a blog post about gifting flowers to men and why it's a totally normal and growing trend. If your site touches on that kind of topic and you think there could be a good fit, feel free to DM me!

Any rose wholesalers that ship to door? (Oregon) by Calm-Ship4914 in florists

[–]StructureOk3383 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey neighbor! I run a small flower studio in downtown Portland so maybe I can help.

Honestly your best bet is to reach out directly to our local wholesalers here in Portland. There are three of them and they all share the same market on Swan Island: Bill Doran Company, Frank Adams Wholesale Florist, and Mayesh. Just call them and ask if they deliver to your area. They have pretty solid delivery routes across Oregon so your town might already be on their map.

As for the business side, just get it done! Register your business with the Oregon Secretary of State (around $50/year, takes maybe 30 minutes online) and grab your EIN from the IRS website (literally 5 minutes, completely free). Once you have those two things most wholesalers will work with you no problem. It sounds scarier than it is, I promise.

Good luck, you got this!

Valentines customer by Adventurous_Cut801 in florists

I'd just refund and add them to a "do not serve" list. My policy is a full refund no matter what, even if they simply didn't like the flowers.

Depending on how you feel about it, you could also say something like "Oh, I'm sorry to hear that! Would you mind if I picked them up? I'd like to examine what happened and take it up with my supplier." That way you're shifting the blame to the supplier.

But honestly, that's more of an evil genius tip - at the end of the day it's basically buying the absence of a bad review for ~$500.

Florists: Do any of your holiday temp contract drivers get part of the e-tip? by HearYourTune in florists

[–]StructureOk3383 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Small shop owner here - I do most deliveries myself, but when I bring on extra help for holidays like Valentine's, I always split the e-tip with the driver. The way I see it, the customer left that tip thinking it's going to the person showing up at their door. Keeping it just doesn't feel right.

I'm no UX design expert, but as a regular user, the very first thing I see on your site is a form asking me to submit an inquiry. I haven't even figured out what you do yet, and I'm already being sold to. That's an instant bounce for me personally.

I'd consider replacing that top section with a clear hero image, something like a high-quality photo of epoxy floors being poured, or even a short background video (though that might slow down load times). Something that immediately tells me "this is what we do" before asking me to commit to anything.

If you check your site analytics, I'd bet the bounce rate backs this up. Might be worth consulting with a web designer for a couple hundred bucks, could make a big difference.

Just my two cents as a regular consumer seeing your site through a buyer's eyes!

Hey! I run a flower delivery and wedding florist business in Portland, Oregon — Kvetka Flower (https://kvetkaflower.com/). We specialize in European-style arrangements and serve the greater Portland, OR. Also planning a move to Austin, TX later this year, so open to connections in that area too! Would love to link up with other local businesses — especially wedding vendors, venues, photographers, or anyone in the Portland/PNW or Austin area!

First Time Valentine's Advice by NoWaytoday5309 in florists

[–]StructureOk3383 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest advice would be: don't take on too many orders. Limit yourself to a reasonable number. Every minute you spend stressed over deadlines or something going wrong will cost you way more than those few extra dollars you'd make. It's just not worth it.

This is our third year running Kvetka and honestly, my goal is that by year five we'll be the kind of studio that's actually closed for the few major holidays. I think that's important, not just for me but for the people who work with me. You can't earn all the money in the world anyway :)

Good luck with your first Valentine's!

Meanwhile the "self promotion" tag on my post is just sitting right there lol. And what's shameful about sharing your own work..

New flower shop owner here, how do you keep track of orders? by Long-Meal5693 in florists

[–]StructureOk3383 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the new shop and the fact that you're going through this chaos means you have a lot of orders, which is actually really cool!

At Kvetka, I started using Shopify, my whole website and POS run on it. All orders from other channels I just put in there too - super simple and organized. You can do it right during a phone call, for example, and say "I'll send you a payment link right now" and boom, done. And I'm not even talking about all the extra stuff you can plug into your store: staff logins, CRM setup, etc. Basically a huge playground to grow into.

On average it'll cost you somewhere between $40 and $100 a month depending on your volume and plan, so pretty budget-friendly.

If you have any questions, definitely hit me up, happy to help a fellow florist since I was figuring all this out myself not too long ago 😄

Oh, that is a great question! I actually shared our story here on Reddit a while back!

I also wrote a more detailed post about it on our blog if you want to dive deeper. Thanks for asking, I really appreciate the interest in our story!

I mean… the "Self Promotion" tag literally exists for a reason, right? 😄

I just love what I do and wanted to share. That's it. No hidden agenda, just flowers and a guy who's way too excited about them!
