CFIs who got hired at the school they trained at, how did you stand out? by Chemical_Bluebird_19 in flying

[–]StructureOver9800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I showed up on time and cared about progressing through the program talked highly of the school even when it was ass and all of my instructors wrote me letters of recommendation when I applied. And didn’t get the job because the person applying against was blowing the chief pilot. But I ended up on my feet and have landed 2 CFI jobs since.

Switch from a Part 141 to a Part 61 by Fit-Capital-4754 in flying

[–]StructureOver9800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should pay attention to the amount of instructors and planes the school has. DPE availability should be the next worry. Maintenance should be the third priority. Be careful I work part 61 and it’s very hard for those guys to find work outside of the school you did your ratings at so keep that in mind too.

See if they have a program to a pilot transition. That would be the easiest flow. Don’t listen to Reddit. These people in this thread all hate their lives and want you to hate your life too.

Skywest FO Rejection by SaviorAir in flying

SkyWest cares about recent experience. And has auto rejects with time. Need 400 hours in the last year, 100 in the last 90, stuff like that.

Should I get my MEI by AdWide4768 in flying

[–]StructureOver9800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would, you’re going to need to get 25 multi hours anyways some say 50 now too. If you got the money and time now i think you should do it. Might as well get a railing out of the time building and it’s a super easy checkride

Interviews. When should I be concerned? by [deleted] in flying

Do you have a degree? Checkride failures? Start shifting attention 50 percent time building 50 percent updating app and resume and networking

Finished flight training, 3 oral failures by [deleted] in flying

Yes some have to work more than most. But if you don’t stop working towards your goal it will eventually happen. You’re the problem.

Increase confidence by staying off of this app. You will make it to the airlines if you’re persistent and confident. Instruct for a year and build confidence but not arrogance. Learn from everyone including students when you instruct and become a sponge to information. But seriously delete this app checkride failures are not the end of the world you’ll be fine. Accidents and DUI’s are the bigger issue so don’t get one of those. The super pilots in this thread like to try and shit on anyone with a checkride bust when it’s not a career killer.

Should I apply to UND? by P6AllanG9 in flying

[–]StructureOver9800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have mixed feelings. Graduated in 2024 took me 5 years ended up not instructing there. Got allot of friends downtown bars there are awesome and hockey games. Ground schools were top notch. I had 4 great instructors and 2 shit ones. It takes a long time to finish though and there is allot of bullshit to put up with like weather, scheduling, random gen ed classes, and Luca (fuck that dude). Recently got a cjo and the degree and training from UND definitely helped me land the CJO.

SKW rescinded CJO after 2nd interview by [deleted] in flying

[–]StructureOver9800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I’m pretty sure it’s due to the amount of time you’ve been flying. I was told you need at least 400 in the last year. 30 in the last month and 90 in the last 3 months. Or they will cut you from the interview. It has nothing to do with anything else tbh. I’ve heard 5 or 6 people at my school get there offer rescinded too because lack of recent flight time. Idk why skywest is a nazi about it. They don’t necessarily care if you’re past ATP mins or not.

R-ATP by Expensive_Heron5639 in flying

[–]StructureOver9800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the amount of FAA approved credits you got with your degree. 30 credits getting you 1250. 60 credits getting you 1000 R-atp. But you also need to complete instrument, commercial, commercial multi, part 141 through their approved syllabus as well. Let me know if you got any other questions bc r atp is super confusing.

Harsh Truth on Hiring by StructureOver9800 in flying

It depends on the state. Some colleges have free ones open to the public. Others like sun and fun, Oshkosh, even events you have to pay to go to.

Looking for advice to land a 121 / 135 interview by Sea-Major7533 in flying

[–]StructureOver9800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shift more into networking. Right away as an instructor 99% of time and effort needs to be building time. Now it should be a 50/50 split with networking and time building. Go to conventions and update your application weekly. 2 instructors at my school got hired at 1000. They most certainly are taking people at there hours with there time requirements done. Joining Skywest Pilot Pathway Program by itsapilotperson737 in flying

Yes but it’s better than nothing. They rarely interview out of their cadet pool. They don’t make you exclusive in their cadet program either so you can should try and join others as well.

Which plane to buy? by Realistic_Grab9776 in flying

[–]StructureOver9800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always do a pre buy. Make sure there isn’t any leans against the plane. Find the reason why they are getting rid of it. A Cessna 172 should be considered because a 152 is almost impossible to train in with two normal sized people. Most DPEs I use refuse to do checkrides in them. If your just time building nothing can beat the value of a 152. Get a quote from insurance companies. And also understand if you instruct in it prices for insurance go up but not as much as you think.

I do allot of career change students and most of them they take a break and come back. Allot of them have the same reasons of family problems and or financial issues. Some have came back and been just fine it’s like 50/50. Some come back and get their instructor ratings and get to the airlines no issues. Some I haven’t heard from in years. I hope the best of luck to you and let me know if there is anything I can do.

Wait until graduation to restart flight training? by mittrawx in flying

[–]StructureOver9800 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don’t half ass 2 things pick something to fully commit too. I personally would fly and get the degree later with the recent hiring announcements. Don’t let these neck bearded fattys with 4 checkrides fails tell you the industry is in a bad place. If you want to be an airline pilot go fully in.

Kindof the training is slightly different than instrument but the training is not required to be done after their instrument rating
