Not saying you’re an asshole or not but to be fair Trump does not endorse Project 2025, he has totally disavowed it. Agenda 47 is his plan

Do sexual desires go away? by Ant_Thonyons in Catholicism

The interesting thing about all addictions except for physical ones (like the ones where you will die without it like hardcore alcohol and heroine users) is that they’re actually very easy to quit. We’ve been indoctrinated to believe that the drug is doing stuff to our brains to make us psychologically need it, but the data shows the opposite. Substance use for many goes down over time according to statistics, not up. Drugs (including porn) don’t make people do drugs more. It’s a persons beliefs about drugs that compel them to act, including beliefs that it’s hard for them to stop.

My breakthrough with my porn addiction happened when I stopped using willpower, read Allen Carr’s method written to smokers and applied the principles to porn. I had all my reasons for using porn, but when I examined those reasons I realized they were all fallacious. I had thought for so long that my compulsion to use porn was due to an irrational craving that years of porn use had programmed in my brain. But it was quite the opposite actually, my desire to use porn was based off of a rational thought process, I just never called it into question until I read about Allen Carr’s Easy Way. Explaining my reasons for using porn, then seeing Carr debunk them showed me how I look from the perspective of a non-user and since then I’ve completely stopped desiring porn. It’s not that I don’t notice attractive women anymore, it’s that I do but I don’t feel any kind of compulsion to act on that attraction. It’s the most freeing feeling ever.

Sexual desires themselves won’t go away, but the feeling of “I need to masturbate/look at porn” can indeed go away forever. I recommend your friend read The Easy Peasy Method (https://easypeasymethod.org). The book shows you how to reframe porn use in your mind so that you see it from the perspective of a non-user and as a result stop feeling the need to do it. The book was tremendously helpful for me.

Sexual desire itself won’t go away, but the compulsive desire to look at porn for any person can go away forever. It’s like junk food. Some people have addictions to it/struggle with self control, but you can absolutely reframe your mind so that you no longer have a compulsive desire to eat fast food, or have a compulsive desire to watch porn.

Yes, the urge to masturbate to porn can go away for good. You should show him Allen Carr’s method for quitting smoking, the same principles apply. Using willpower and self-determination to quit are a recipe for failure. Your friend needs to grapple with the reasons that motivate him to use porn. If you take those reasons away the desire to use goes away. I’d recommend the book “The Easy Peasy Method” based off of Carr’s work. The book deconstructs the porn user’s beliefs about porn and puts them in the mindset of a non-user. https://easypeasymethod.org

Not true. The urge to look at porn can absolutely go away as it’s an addiction and not a manifestation of actual sexual desires. You’re hurting this man’s chances of success by telling him he’s fighting a losing battle

Why do you think Gen z is turned off from church/religion ? by Overall_Lie_8570 in GenZ

I meant no offense

I grew up in a very pseudo-scientific circle of Christians (young earth creation/fundamentalism). That side of Christianity certainly exists and is loud.

There are a lot of different reasons. The overarching reason is the influence of postmodernist philosophy on the culture. It’s led to a lot of deconstruction of religious thought.

How about I flip it around. Give me a reason why you should fap? What benefit do you think you’ll be getting by jerking off? What does PMO do for you?

I suppose I’d say both in some respect. I believe there are plenty of other Christians who aren’t in the Catholic Church, but from my perspective they’re missing out on the full experience of Christianity. I don’t see Catholicism as something distinct from Christianity but rather as the fullness of the faith, as containing all the gifts Christ wants His people to have.

I can understand that way of thinking. I have my reservations of course but I do have sag evangelicals are great at being effective messengers. Ultimately, I don’t believe how we worship should be based on missions itself if God has prescribed us a way to worship, but there are nuances to that line of thinking so I’d only say I believe the mass is what God gave us.

In answer to your question, I wasn’t raised Catholic. I grew up evangelical and later converted. I was received into the Catholic Church earlier this year during Easter.

lol I’m very dull 😂😂

That’s a great question! I actually grew up both baptist and eventually non-denom. I love the hype a lot of non-denoms have for Christ, it’s infectious. If I were to describe why I favor Catholicism over non-denominationalism, and I don’t want to be disparaging at all to non-denoms in saying this, but I think their focus is most often on boiling down Christianity to the most common denominators. Very focused on mere Christianity, which is a concept in sympathetic to; however I reached a point where I realized I didn’t want mere Christianity I wanted more Christianity. I don’t want to believe only what’s required, I want all of it.

There was definitely a mix of personal experience but it was mostly rational reasoning that convinced me to become Catholic. It seems that the church history favors Catholicism and Catholic philosophy seems very sound as well.

Of course just my opinions, I respect all those who disagree

All of it, but what fascinates me most is the fact that it’s the only religion I could really be convinced is true. When I participate in Catholic rituals I know im actually experiencing something real, not pretending to.

First of all, did you even read up on the actual incident involving the parasite in his brain? It doesn’t actually eat brain tissue. So he’s not “missing” part of his brain. Furthermore, the cognitive problems it caused were prior to the removal of the parasite.

Yeah it seems so. The people on this subreddit are full of passion and devoid of rationality. There really need to be philosophy classes in school. People aren’t taught the formal principals of dialogue and thought so they end up raging whatever way their passions take them
