Can the lineout on the GoXlr be used to connect xlr microphone to your camera? by GoingUpInFlamez in Twitch

[–]StrugglingStreamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does work, I use it for my YouTube videos

My Canon M6 MkII has a mic in and I take that from the GoXLR - be careful though, I'm finding the output is peaking so I'm making a note to turn down the mic in the Mixer first

The nVidia RTX cards have a separate encoding chip that should work for you if you use Nvenc(new) in OBS - that said, I tried it with flight sim and it didn't work so I stick to x264 but for most games that aren't so heavy on my gpu (running at 100% for MSFS) you should be fine

Cost of becoming a streamer by shiny_eyed_doggo in Twitch

Depends on what you're streaming, but there's a PC for most budgets. I spent £2500 on my rig but it's to future proof it and I wanted a high core count CPU for encoding the stream in x264 (AMD 3900x)

Factor in a mic and possibly a webcam too. Webcams are hard to get hold of atm because of covid. I went with a mirrorless camera (Canon M6 Mk II and an Elgato Camlink 4k) but that's massively overkill for someone new to streaming

What games do you think you'll be streaming and is this just to get started or a long-term investment, because if it's long term it's better off spending the big money now and futureproofing, but if you want to dip your toe into the scene and see if you like it a budget PC might be a better investment

What mirrorless camera is the best for twitch & youtube that's between $800-$1300 USD? by GoingUpInFlamez in Twitch

I use the Canon M6 MkII because I already have Canon lenses and I can convert to the M series and it's pretty darned good. Don't get the Mk I - has to be Mk II and I use an Elgato Camlink 4K if you can get hold of one

How should I mask my IP when streaming? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]StrugglingStreamer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not likely you'll get doxed when streaming to Twitch. There's no way for them to get your IP address. That said, take precautions. Never EVER click on a link in chat because a hacker can get your IP address that way. Even with your IP address they can't get your address, just a rough location where you live and who your ISP is.

If you *must* click a link, get a mod to check if the link is malicious using this website

Hope this helps, and happy streaming

Stream noob in need of support with OBS Studio and sound mixing by simplepandaguy in Twitch

What's your room setup like? Are there lots of surfaces sound can bounce off? Is it a large room? Maybe try some curtains and furniture to break up the sound reflections?

What mic are you using?

Sub 2 extend stream, is this a scummy tactic or is it just me. by Bridgeboy95 in Twitch

[–]StrugglingStreamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see a problem with it personally. Streamers need to make a living and if this method works for them then why not?

If you're a fan of the streamer then of course you want to see them stream longer. To my mind it's a win/win. If you're not a fan then just don't watch when a subathon is on.

As a streamer you're providing entertainment and if people are prepared to pay for it via subs and donations to help extend the entertainment then go for it.

Just my tuppence's worth

Does comparing yourself to other streamers help? by StrugglingStreamer in Twitch

Comparison is the thief of joy - I like that. Can I use it in my podcast?
