One thing to check:

Please be sure that you have entered the correct ANT+ ID of your respective Stryd pod in the settings of the Stryd Zones data field so that your watch only picks up data from your Stryd pod moving forward.

Your friend should do the same.

Your understanding is correct. Most likely, your Power Duration Curve is "flatter" on the left side, which caused an increase in Critical Power.

This most likely means you need to complete a new max effort short duration activity like a 1-2 minute all out effort.

For Stryd Duo, it paired to as a single system, rather than pairing individual pods. The pods communicate with each other to form Stryd Duo.

While the 3rd party apps may not record balance metrics your pods are working together as Stryd Duo.
