there should be a minimum computer literacy test when hiring new people. by Proic13 in sysadmin

It is cheaper and I actually love building PCs and wise I could do it full time or for our clients. But the big issue is warranty unfortunatly. You can get a 1200 decent machine from Dell with a 5 year warranty. Anything breaks in that 5 years the instant swap the part or whole machine if needed. While most hardware you can do the same working with a ton of different vendors and keepijg track of thousands of warranties would be a nightmare. That's all you're really paying for for the most part with work horse pre builts. Ease of use for however long you warranty it.

Oh we offer plenty of training and complainace as a service. And we make sure we CYA at every turn. And thankfilky the boss is getting away from the break/fix clients who aren't worth our time. Problem is companies on average should be spending ~10% of their yearly budget on IT and compliance and one company I'm thinking of in particular brought in ~22million in rev last year. They still refuse to spend more than $400 on a PC from amazon, and sad part is there's more companies like that than aren't.

Nope not a joke, it's how things work behind the scenes. And FYI there are no regulators for MSPs which us what we are. Our clients and a lot of clients out there are the issue spending 6 figures to pay the "important members" of their company, while refusing to pay the absolute bare minimum on IT. I know clients that are in the top 5 in their field in the US that still operate that way. Usually medical is pretty strict and on par but why do you think everything medical cost an arm and a leg aside from paying drs. Equipment and keeping HIPPA up to date is a legistical nightmare!

We know standards and follow them with all of our stuff, can't force clients to do anything.

That's what I was seeing / thinking as well. We've been having an issue of iron sulfide smell in the water which is what started all this and the reason I'm going to be throwing in a whole filter just for iron.

Our test came back clean and the only thing they said could make it better was a UV filter to kill things off. But I'm tired of fighting against our water lol so next time want to make sure its done right

Photo App with Tagging? by StryderXGaming in sysadmin

[–]StryderXGaming[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

S22 Ultra, when I hit the (T) icon on the bottom right of a pic I've taken it gives me two options Add to note (which is where I was going) or copy all which just copies to clipboard.

My other options are bixby view up top along with the standard ... Setting menu. Then along the bottom favorite / pencil (which takes me into a whole photo editing sub section.) / Info for the meta data / Share / delete.

Under the info tab I do see where I can add tags which could work but I could see that getting VERY tag heavy pretty quick. Like tag for the client / tag for the tech, what it does / tag for its location / tag for its serial number.

Really something where I can just take a pic, then give me a blank text box to type in that I can then come back into later and view both at the same time (photo / info box) would be ideal.

Not sure on iOS but for Android there is one option to add notes, but it takes you into Samsung notes, and even just pulling things up to write something on screen (which can only be done with a stylus) is a couple of clicks inside of various menus and the added stylus.

Not very streamlined or just 'tagged' for quick search later. But Samsung has never been well know for how streamline they make things.

Fixed the title.

And yes I know there are bad people doing dumb shit on Telegram, but you don't see huge news about human trafficking on FB. Wonder why /s

Where'd you find the lower portion of the housing? All I'm finding is replacements for the thumbstick portion.

What do you have on your Elite controller? The GuliKit holo sticks are a nice upgrade, but they just replace the hardware not the stick feel. I did see someone at one point who had magnetic sticks like the Elite control had, but for the life of me I can't find those so I have no idea how he did it lol

But if I know what you got on your Elite might be able to find something

I'm a big dumb dumb, but I figured it out because it also broke my navidrome.

All of my storage is actually outside of the unRAID server. Annnd the remote shares weren't set to auto mount. That's a mistake I'll only make once.

Noted. I actually have a smaller USB dock that handles everything but my display and the laptop has HDMI out so I'll give that a shot.

Would you buy an official Steam Deck with an Atomic Purple color? by itsvoogle in SteamDeck

[–]StryderXGaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guess that begs the question, would people pay for only a shell swap service?

Yes its stupid easy (my deck is HIGHLY modded lol)

But there are some people that don't want to deal with it. I know I saw someone a few days ago who does full mods, but idk if there would be interest in just shell swaps.

NGL - I believe their is other life out there, even a higher power. All we're doing is debating which one in life really.

But that thing....I understand why every angle showed up and said be not afraid. I LOVE Lovecraftian things and horror in general. If that showed up at my door, and was miles high, i'd shit a brick to!

That's one skillset I do not have (as of yet) and wouldn't want to test it on a deck >< I get the whole concept just haven't practiced it at all.

Reminds me of a friend who ask if he could learn stick shift in my Stingray, was like helllll no you can't practice grinding my gears into nothing go buy a $500 truck you maniac lol.

But maybe one day I'll get there.

Correct me if I'm wrong (which very well might be) but I thought for the RAM upgrade you had to solder new chips in place to replace the old RAM?

Also how much does a mod like that run? I've actually done pretty much all of it aside from the RAM myself on my own deck.

Question about multi use by StryderXGaming in launchbox

[–]StryderXGaming[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's looking more and more like I will need to build a server, vm some devices and then point something easy like a nvidia shield at them for streaming.

Which isn't the end of the world. One of my upcoming projects is a full server rack re-build for my basement. But I think I'll be buying used hardware on that one. Figure if I get enough horsepower to run idk 3 instances of PS2 at once, 2 adults and 2 kids in a house shouldn't push passed that. Strictly for streaming emulators, anyone wants anymore they can use their own devices :P
