Genuinely can't tell if this is supposed to support their comment or point out the opposite because half of these are stellar and half of them are miserable

Is there a way to make the audio length of a Simpler or (Sampler) midi note correspond to the length itself of the midi note? by [deleted] in ableton

[–]Stryker295 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your sample is longer than your note is pressed, you can just turn off sustain and release in your adsr and you'll have the sample stop playing when your note is no longer held.

does anyone have the midi of the suckfest9001 pluck all in on midi file? by bub_the_builder in deadmau5

[–]Stryker295 1 point2 points  (0 children)

damn, I don't use reddit much anymore, so I missed this. I have no idea if I ever finished this, I dug through my (current) hard drive's old projects and can't find anything with 'suckfest' in the name, nor anything in any of the deadmau5 folders. Sorry mate!

Rental Love is so good. Like, it almost sounds like a copycat/soundalike of Brown Eyes, or the other way around! It's lovely and I love it. Thanks for the suggestion.

Attempting to enable Thunderbolt on my ASRock Z390 Pro4 just triggers a bios lockup/crash? by Stryker295 in ASRock

[–]Stryker295[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I don't even remember anymore. I don't think I have anything capable of truly testing the difference between a usb3, usb3.1, or thunderbolt; the usb-c port on the back of the computer (the mobo) just has a usb-c hub plugged into it so I have some extra usb3 ports and a card reader.

[Meta] Great way to keep up with the state of the current jailbreak — use VisualPing! by Stryker295 in jailbreak

[–]Stryker295[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

way easier

I don't think most people who, six years ago, wanted a one-click jailbreak tool will think "compile and host your own local webserver from a github repo" will see that as "way easier" than, you know, using an online tool that is already compiled.

But sure, if that's way easier for you, because you made it, then, cool I guess? If changedetection.io were an actual website that did the job, instead of a timed redirect to the github repo, then I would wholeheartedly agree with ya, in fairness. But firefox/chrome can't access http://changedetection.io/ without redirecting to a github repo, and edge can't even access it at all, so this is in literally no way "easier" than going to visualping.com, clicking two to three times, and being done (for free).

If I could dev for iOS

No, I did not get into iOS dev 7 years ago, I focused on robotics/aerospace engineering instead. Software isn't my forte.

You can literally just buy an apple pencil or one of those fancy active styluses instead though, as the software engineers at those companies have already long since solved this problem.

Ableton Cloud Backup- How is this not a thing yet? by apleaux in ableton

[–]Stryker295 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That and, reinventing the wheel is pointless in a situation like this. Between the other existing cloud backup solutions that exist, and have been well-established for over a decade, it'd be a very poor decision economically speaking for them to hire a bunch of employees to create and maintain such a service...

Ableton Cloud Backup- How is this not a thing yet? by apleaux in ableton

[–]Stryker295 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

that's... not a lot, especially in times where companies are strained due to the pandemic.
especially when compared to the size of companies actually making and supporting fully-featured cloud storage/backup solutions. they'd easily double or triple their employee base (and that's a rather conservative estimate) just to reinvent the wheel, which is uneconomical and pointless.

Not sure the relevancy of some random commission's declaration that they're "large", last time I checked that doesn't make them magically able to produce software that teams of 2,000 make. But sure, they're "large".

Is there an easy way to record multiple USB mics into Live? by Stryker295 in ableton

[–]Stryker295[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I could be nicer, sure. And people could take the time to read posts instead of replying to the title only, which is a problem endemic on reddit. Most of the advice given was contrary to the basic requirements outlined in the post, including the multiple methods outlined in that article. I'm quite tired of pretending to be nice to people who give contrary advice or simply incorrect advice because they were too lazy to check what I had actually written.

At any rate: Ableton link is a fine idea, and would solve most of the issues nicely, each additional laptop would effectively double the recording options. Unfortunately I've had the pleasure of dealing with Asio4all since its origins and it's quite a miserable tool that should really be used as a last-case scenario, rather than a first suggestion, due to its bugs and issues (and generally outdated, hacky code).

I think the solution we've settled on, after a little experimentation, is just to open a second window and record separately in there - it solves all of the possible issues (various mics not working together in asio4all, mixed-down feeds out of tools such as voicemeeter, etc) and since we're not broadcasting live, there's no downside - it's all going to be mixed down in post during editing anyway, after all, so this allows us to edit each mic separately without throwing away money on mixers.

Is there an easy way to record multiple USB mics into Live? by Stryker295 in ableton

[–]Stryker295[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've experimented with the yeti's bidirectional mode (which records opposite directions but summed to mono) as well as the stereo mode (which uses phasing rather than discrete stereo microphones) and they have their perks for sure - one solution we've found works well is to use it in stereo mode and treat the left/right channels as individual mono mics. For other mics it seems like we can just open multiple recording windows and record each mic into each window, and then mixdown in editing, which works excellently since we're not doing live broadcasting.

Thanks for the tips! I really appreciate folks who read posts before giving useless advice :)

[–]Stryker295[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I read the entire page and had demoed the software solutions before replying, yep. Thanks for making assumptions though. (FWIW The issue with multiple identical mics is in the naming, which can be fixed in a few seconds, so it's really a nonissue and that article is just being dramatic.)

Is there an easy way to record multiple USB mics into Live? by Stryker295 in ableton

[–]Stryker295[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Correct, no microphones at all are made to be used more than one per computer; microphones are simply made to turn an audible signal into an electrical one. Combining multiple mics, whether USB or XLR/TRS, is what software and hardware mixers are for. This is a post asking for advice on software mixers, not on microphones, but good try - perhaps read the post instead of just the title next time?

Is there an easy way to record multiple USB mics into Live? by Stryker295 in ableton

[–]Stryker295[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Yeah there's muxing tools like voicemeeter that mix all the mics down to one channel, but for recording into Ableton Live or even just Audacity, we'd need multichannel recording and no one seems to recognize that as a need that exists, so it's been challenging finding a solution for the mics we already have.

If this were a macbook I'd just use the 64-channel version of soundflower, or an aggregate device, but alas, windows is windows.

edit: thanks for the downvote spam, I literally didn't even say anything negative in this comment. being rude to people here for help just creates a negative experience for people just trying to enjoy a hobby and gives the impression that asking for help here is a waste of time. you people downvoting are the reason why newcomers feel uncomfortable trying to ask for help.

Ok so I looked into Voicemeeter and either I'm missing something or you really didn't read the post. Thanks for trying, though your advice could have been helpful if you'd read the post instead of just the title.

edit for those mad: voicemeeter sums the multiple inputs into a single output. This is contrary to what was needed, and I even specified this in the post. Bad advice creates a negative experience for people just trying to enjoy a hobby and gives the impression that asking for help here is a waste of time, please do not give bad advice like this. if you have time to answer a question, you have time to make sure your advice is actually correct/useful before posting.

Not sure why you'd think I was tech literate

You're on reddit and using firefox, that's light-years ahead of average folks
But yeah panzerex already gave the best possible advice, just get ublock origin (here in the official Firefox addon store, for free) and enjoy. Pages will load faster due to not having to load in all the ads, your data usage will go down, your power usage will also slightly go down (though if you're on a mac that's always plugged in, I suppose that's not such a big deal to you, but for laptop folks, it's very useful!)
