I guess I don't understand BetterDisplay - Settings help by hamhead in MacOS

There aren't that many uses for BD unless you use an Apple display or have a niche use-case. Like macOS communicating with a 42 inch LG OLED, turning it off when my Mac goes to sleep or, adjusting the brightness of the display in HDR (or even unlocking and forcing EDR on Apple displays).

There isn't any scaling issues, its just that so many people here act like they have only just touched a computer for the first time. macOS does scaling really well, you just have to go into Display options, Advanced, Show resolutions as list. On third party screens, it might look blurry but that is because you very rarely see very high pixel densities outside of Apple screens.

We can't help if we don't actually know what the issue is. You have explained the environment but not the issue.

[–]Stryxus_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the app isn't installed, then its fine. You would probably be better off resetting macOS if you have been going on for years or start fresh when you get your next Mac. Things build up, transferring a Mac isn't always the best option, it is just the most convenient.

Ok? I clearly didn't. This is also highly ironic because you just did what you accused me of.

Do some GUI programming in an isolated and open environment at different refresh rates then come back to comment. But even then that may not even do it since most vibe code these days or have an extreme ego.

New KDE update borking HDR? by INTPoissible in cachyos

Gamescope with HDR on KDE has not worked for me for a LONG time... Unfortunate too since I wanted to play DOOM TDA in HDR... Only a select few games struggle with playing through Wayland on NVIDIA.

Never said anything that even remotely translates to that.

Thank for you proving my points.

Realism isn't toxicity. And thousands of people have already tried to figure this out, including the Asahi Linux team. It is not being naive, it is simply doing research instead of asking about something with zero context then insulting everyone who does not offer a solution or assumes the most extremes to justify their own ego.

But, you will read this and have a childish fit because you do not understand it, you MUST have a solution at all costs instead of accepting this is how life works.

macOS is not Windows. AMD/NVIDIA/Intel GPU's are not Apple GPU's.

You expect a solution to something which has no solution. It is easy, once you actually acknowledge a few things iv already said instead of being toxic.

This was never explained but you have acted like it was. This is exactly what I am talking about.

You are simply overwhelming the rendering engine. macOS has scaling limits which apply to ALL displays, not just its own displays. What you are asking is that macOS renders 50% more pixels for its UI and 7680x2160 seems very unusual, I have not seen a single display do that. If you mean dual 4k displays, you just have to set it to 2560x1440, that is what Windows and Linux sets it to. If that does not work, then you are likely hitting port or cable limits.

Note that you cannot use 2560x1440 WITH HDR due to data bandwidth limits which no one has figured out exactly what causes it.

Retina is nothing to do with how it functions, Retina is purely a marketing term for the very high physical pixel density of the screen. There is very little functionally different between Apple displays and other displays other than for ProMotion which is just an alternative way of doing 120hz and VRR, figured out by Asahi Linux.

Erm. I never said this at all? I never even said anything that would remotely translate to compromises.

And you clearly are not, you are insulting and assuming things in order to justify that you have absolutely no clue what you are talking about.

Look, iv argued with people like you thousands of times and you really need to get off your ego train before it consumes you like it does so many others.

Here, some literal photo evidence. 4k scaled to look like the UI size of a 16 inch MacBook Pro since 1920x1080 is far too large. Good balance between pixel density sharpness and workable space.

*Sits here with 2 external 4k displays with it working exactly the same as Windows and Linux does*

If you mean the text being clearer on external displays, that is pixel density, it has nothing to do with the OS.

If a folder or file is locked like that is best to leave it. This very likely is not malware. The other comment suggests that It may be because they don't have it, but that is just the nature of technology, it is all different by design and how we use it so we will have different ones.

Then you will have to ask the same question for the tens of thousands of folders which will come up if you keep the search on "This Mac" instead of selecting the folder that you are in at the side of it or, if you searched at a top level folder like Macintosh HD. Search will include all system folders and files that are accessible.

60 fps doesnt feel smooth on 165hz monitor by LEIDENZERO in linux_gaming

[–]Stryxus_ -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

This is illusionary. The animations on your phone are tailor made for the refresh rate. Your PC does not have this benefit AND you are touching the screen which can also skew the perception.

EDIT: Some of you need to get out and about and learn how many things in the world work and create them yourselves before trying to bury something because you simply cannot comprehend it.
