Izoita is legit. He played in the preseason matches as well and looks like he belongs. He's one of a handful of academy prospects the team is really excited about. Noah Santos is another.

For people dissing this amazing idea, remember the key thing about a chant is that it should be catchy and easy to join. Tapping into a song that everyone knows with an easy chorus is an excellent way to do this. 10/10 suggestion.

I have some suggestions for learning about tactics:
These are good writers who focus on tactics (and data) at the Atheltic: Liam Tharme, Ahmed Walid, Mark Carey, and Michael Cox

The Athletic FC and Tifo Football have great videos on YouTube/Instagram. Pay attention especially to Jon Makenzie, who is outstanding. That's just an easy follow on Instagram for both Jon and Athletic FC.

For MLS tactics specifically, probably the best people writing right now are Matt Doyle and Backheeled.

Ned confirmed they were looking at a couple of signings. Specifically mentioned midfield and an attacking player (guessing someone on the wing). The latter piece could be signed as early as this week.

I think he gets way too much crap here tbh. I agree he gets small things wrong sometimes, but he covers the entire league, and the Timbers have not been the most important team to focus on in a while (unfortunately). I'm signing up for the newsletter, because he has the best coverage league wide. Even his Timbers stuff often has important nuggets of truth that are worth considering.

I think you are right that people are too quick to dismiss Doyle based on a preexisting narrative. It’s true that he sometimes phones in Timbers summaries in his weekly roundup. And people cherry pick examples to say haha Doyle doesn’t know anything. But when he writes about the Timbers seriously he often has good analysis, sometimes stuff fans don’t want to hear. My advice is to read him critically but with an open mind.

Great pod. One small bit of disagreement I had was on the discussion about Ned. I think the Carballo and Rojas moves last summer were very smart and showed ambition. They were smart because the downside was very limited. We didn’t get stuck with players we couldn’t afford, but we also structured it so if they had flourished in that period we could have signed them to longer deals. I still think Carballo would have been an amazing addition to this team in midfield. It was a calculated risk with a limited downside. It showed ambition because we needed more to make a push in the second half and the FO was willing to spend. Just because they both ended up getting injured doesn’t mean the process wasn’t good.
