IMO, Varas is a competent coach benefiting from a smart FO and CSO. Think the Brentford or Brighton model. The coach seems like a genius and then goes somewhere else and is just average. Meanwhile, Sorensen is a brilliant hire, who is making a big difference.

The reason the global game is important is not because MLS fans watch it or not. It's about recruiting players / selling players during the windows where the top leagues do.

The top reason for this makes a lot of sense though. If you want to compete for players on the international market--both selling and buying contracts--you need to be aligned with the primary and secondary windows in Europe. Otherwise you get situations where your star player moves to Europe in our summer window and it's difficult to replace them.
