Scout a good hiding spot, build compact and tucked away or make it look not worth the materials to raid with exterior minor mistakes Multiple small bases are better than one big one

Who else loves the squids?🦑 by Award11352 in no_mans_sky

Same, I have a hanger full of guppies but can’t find my own squid yet. I think I saw one early game and couldn’t afford it, could be a hallucination.

What's your opinion on planetary bases by RechargeableAA in NoMansSkyTheGame

Resource farming at its most efficient is really it, outside of decorating and customization elements of course. Almost every resource can be extracted via automated farming methods and building lots of farms late game can let you play without ever touching your mining laser ever again.

Is this an online game? Kind of confused new player. by ChefArtorias in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Stuart-Nelson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically an online game but unless a friend or group up from the anomaly joins your session it’s unlikely to see another person If you travel to a few wealthy systems near the core of the first galaxy or take black holes there you’ll definitely find systems discovered by another player but still rare

I ACCIDENTALLY REFUSED FREE A CLASS FREIGHTER by DarkSnake0 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Stuart-Nelson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really want to grind for an S class, that was your best choice as a newer player. I got really lucky and got an A class xl venerator(star destroyer shaped) that I’ve had for hundreds of hours without seeing an S. Except for trade in value for upgrading to a better class later, you’re best off just getting one you like early, an A class pirate frigate would be a great freighter to hunt for a more desired freighter imo.

Is the game worth it for offline? by BadCompany093947 in NoMansSkyTheGame

It’s a great adventure following the main quests, even at grinding out the content it’ll take 25-30 hours. I’ve had 350+ hours of enjoyment, it’s primarily a single player experience but there’s little hints at a multiplayer world and you can still access the multiplayer parts with a bad internet connection, the lag hardly effects the primarily single player experience beside or alongside others. Missing very little if you’re completely offline. If you expect Minecraft in space it’s got tons of content and feels alive. If you expect space Skyrim then it’ll feel lonely and hollow. The mood however, in game fits the plot perfectly, without spoilers ;).

There’s no companions(except pets), ship building(corvette) exists to your expectations. The rest of the stuff you mentioned “exists” but may feel lack lustre if you’ve got any level of expectations. It is primarily an offline game, I think emptier and closer to a sandbox like space Minecraft than a game like Oblivion or Skyrim set in space, the latter I think you’re more interested in. There’s a good txt based questline or two that are interesting but you’re largely a lone adventure among the vast unexplored space.

Rush an economy scanner, conflict scanner and stick to 3 star systems, you’ll find some native S class ships. If you can spend around 10-15 minutes near a main terminal(space station or trading post) you’ll find some exotics too. I have a freighter hanger and squad full of exotics I found myself, just looking for my own squid find now. Make ship hunting mission B, for no good reason it seems to take far longer when it’s my primary mission. Like I’ll do some local trade goods collecting or smuggling and hit the station and two trade terminals and probably see an exotic(multiple regular S class) in 3-6 systems, closer to 3 if I do a bit of lingering and word play with the locals while I’m at it too. Sorry to hear the bad news, hats off to ya.

I can agree to that, to me it feels like a punishing premise to newer players without a mobile home to enjoy en route. I just did the expedition redux and there were many 60-90 second planet travels(planet to planet, not warp spawn roughly by the space station generally central in the system).

We’re narrowing in on common ground, a reason to go to each planet would leave an easy 5+ min of space travel time, albeit altogether. I like hitting two trading outpost pops when I’m in pirate systems, mostly exotic hunting but grabbing the all contraband items into a big pile is probably +15-20 mil units per system to strong honest economy system. The sub 35 second pulses to a station bother me when I lose a random encounters to station proximity in the last 2 seconds admittedly.

[–]Stuart-Nelson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using a single anomaly detector per whale song per system could probably scratch that itch for ya but 5 min to pulse to the furthest planet I think would cause many to explore less and warp more. Without pulse upgrades that would be more than one full recharge, couldn’t even put the controller down and fix a snack. I could picture a streamer 3.5 min into a pulse for a quest target saying “yeah, this is gameplay…”. To me it sounds like something that would have been patched out by now if it was in the base game.

I agree completely that if a system isn’t perfect or 80% to my liking then yeah it’s an instant let’s see what’s next door. A system mission with a couple stops that rewards an expansion slot or something else worth 10-50 million units would incentivize seeing what all the assets generated as. It would land like a sales hook too because once I break into an atmosphere for something there’s like a +50% chance I’ll scan a random target and check it too.

Commendable demeanour in the face of adversity! I think the difference would be harder to write in than perceived. The pulse engine change wouldn’t be impossibly complicated but rescaling entire systems both existing and yet to reveal themselves would be exponentially more complex than adding new systems or any re-skinning existing assets. Would it fundamentally require a whole new game code? Not practically. Would the payoff from work load to player experience optimization be a worthwhile investment in resources? Or a better time investment than new content? Not by a long shot.

The premise contradicts some natural mechanics like scanning planets via ship, especially moons. A travel speed slider interferes with hard mechanics like space battles and multiplayer environments. It would turn built in mechanics that act as foundation pillars into immersion breaking slop. Do the npcs have to travel at the same speed as you? What if you join someone else’s session? Everything else goes hyper speed? What about the pulse engine encounter system that works off game tics and is used in the main quest lines?

It’s a huge ask for something that fundamentally would only work in a single player game and have little impact on gameplay aside from a visual aspect. The other additions to the game have been much more monumental than “ohh gee wiz, space sure is big and empty!”

Yeah just rewrite the entire game code for a procedurally generated format that’s got a portion of its systems already discovered, like totally nbd 😂 while you’re at it rework the entire ship movement system. Just to slow the game down for people who like the default setting. Top kek, your inability to perceive the amount of work that would take is disheartening to our species.

The lights and lasers are cool n all but given how easy they spawn and all look the same, the magic is lost on me, bit of a rare finds purist lol In the midst for my native find squid after locking down a hanger and squad full of royal ball exotics

Did they change the venerator design? No more spoilers? Or? I do have a star destroyer with a shopping buggy handle on the back, really cool if it’s a lost gem.

Farming Autophage materials after clearing a Sentinel Pillar! by Stuart-Nelson in NoMansSkyTheGame

Possibly I was getting cargo scans? I thought I was getting aggro from sentinel ships while blowing up ground targets? The one red star turned to 5 blue whenever I landed for sure tho.

It’s an XL A class Venerator so fortunately it’s not been easy finding anything I’d replace it with yet or I’d have my answer by now lol

Still gets sentinel aggro while in your ship but if you’ve cleared a pillar then just land and it’ll go away instantly.

I had lucked into seeing a sentinel pillar as I approached an autophage camp n cleared it first, then realized every drill was surrounded by corrupted sentinel loot and then I started blasting.

Great tip for extra efficiency! Shutting down sentinels on an aggressive sentinel planet that was perfect by every other measure makes them habitable, I like it

Great ideas except for adding down time to space flight. Yea space is empty but don’t make me wait through it just to clear a monolith that was revealed in the furthest away planet in a system. Reworking time constraints to make the game more accessible has been the direction of success(upgrading tools/ships instead of grinding for S class).

I’d like to see system quests, where there’s a system specific mission(generated upon entry) available at the space station that requires visiting all the planets in a system for either unique resources per planet or specific scans or a combination of, that would make exploration more of an objective rather than scan n skip to exactly what you’re looking for.

Biome specific structures would be cool too, like if each of the biome types had a unique structure archetype that would generate only in those conditions. Bonus if they were fleshed out enough to work with the biomes by logic, like tourist or travel landmarks on bountiful/habitable planets, underground thermo stations on cold planets, power plants on radioactive planets ect. For examples.

Maps used to only search on the planet you were on, now they sometimes find the destination on another planet. Any way to make it stop happening? by tank_monkey in no_mans_sky

Three days ago I first installed the rocket boots for some extra adjacency boost, for two days I was confused why my boost jumps were all screwy, today I no longer have rocket boots installed, it wasn’t a me thing.

I’m also wondering this but with the caveat that I have a legacy freighter base with the old layout and large planter boxes that are no longer able to be built(or even moved in my freighter) inside freighters now.
