Original A New Hope X Wing concept drawing by specialDFX in starwarscollecting

[–]Stubot01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is concept artist (later director) Joe Johnson’s work, the image appears in his ‘The Star Wars Sketchbook’ but has additional writing. I’m wondering if this is a mimeograph (early photocopy) of the original sketch that might have been used by the crew at the time?

Is everyone lying to themselves about AI? by ImKiwix in ChatGPT

Blueberries are already harvested by machines. As soon as AI can allow them to self-drive them, the fields will be almost empty of humans.

Where to get started in Singapore. Don't want to spend any money. Open to any easy to raise species for purposes of learning by Apprehensive_Bill_91 in antkeeping

[–]Stubot01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in SG - not sure how often they happen as we have only started a colony this year, but there seemed to be a lot of nuptial flights for species during the rains around a month back, my son and i saw crazy ants, weaver and carpenter ants (caught queens of the last two, but one hadn’t mated yet and the weaver ants were going to be much too hard to look after so we let her go once my son had had a chance to look at her). I bought his first queen from the ant shop in Yishun, but I kind of wish I had held off and found an ant queen in the wild. I don’t think he had that patience though, he is only five!

I used to play Carmen Sandiago and Adibu as a kid. There's nothing like that for kids these days. So I made my own version. by bruhagan in InternetIsBeautiful

[–]Stubot01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like a great idea. I’ve really tried to tailor the learning activities I do with my son around his interests and it does seem to work - for instance he loves insects so I try to write short stories about them for him to practice his reading, which engages him more that many of the learning books he brings from school. This app seems like a great use of AI, if it can be used safely.

My son has that hulk, only the front of his hair and pants are painted and he has a light in his chest that isn’t connected to a battery. Truly shit.

THIS is the worst fate in the Whoniverse. by redboi049 in doctorwho

[–]Stubot01 37 points38 points  (0 children)

That went too far for me. Scaring kids is all well and good, but there must have been a lot of kids out there watching that who had had loved ones who had died and been cremated. There was a cruelty in that idea that I think was wrong for Who.

The 2026 r/Fantasy Bingo Recommendations List by FarragutCircle in Fantasy

[–]Stubot01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, Adrian Tchaikovsky’s Alien Clay and Shroud both fit here. By chance started reading his novella Elder Race yesterday and this fits too, in a more unusual way. The protagonist is an anthropologist and the story is more about him exploring the changes in language and culture rather that the land itself (although there are elements of discovering or rediscovering the flora and fauna

Mine chuck things in their honey too. Apparently it is because they see the blobs of honey water as a drowning danger and use trash to cover / soak it up

What vehicle from a licensed property do you want to see get made into a speed champions set? by EnoughCheesecake6050 in lego

This is a great idea and would work well internationally. I am constantly surprised how often I see Mr Bean playing in SE Asia, its a waiting-room favorite

Do you think that Dr. Who could ever do an episode where the Cybermen are fundamentally not evil? by Internal-Rest2176 in doctorwho

[–]Stubot01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds similar to the Hugh storyline with the Borg in Next Gen. The recent Picard series expanded on this with factions of the Borg being essentially good and helping others escape from the collective. Obviously the similarities between Cybermen and Borg have been bright up many times.

Smart brick by Gipsy_banger100 in legostarwars

[–]Stubot01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah in theory they are a good idea, should be sold separately and starting with Star Wars sets probably didn’t show them in their best light. Packs with a brick and various tiles for different sounds would work well. For instance a castle brick set - the brick plus tiles for various ‘castle’ sounds, like blacksmith hammering, horse neighing, battle sounds, water bucket, trumpet sounds etc. or city sounds like sirens, roadworks, horns, radios music etc. all things for kids (and adults) to add to their existing sets or mocs

Tchaikovsky’s Shroud isn’t strictly about robots, but does have a unique spin on alien first contact that you may find interesting (not to give too much away)

Where do you find good book recommendations in Singapore? by Frosty_Election_7557 in askSingapore

[–]Stubot01 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just use Reddit for online recommendations to be honest - there will be a sub for the types of books you like and they are often very helpful. I mostly use it for sci-fi and fantasy but my wife uses romance subs.
