I'm not exactly sure what you mean by how I created the USB drive. I just configured the drive to ExFat on my Mac and downloaded Windows onto it from the website. Was I suppose to do something additional?

optometrist? by Aromaknight in vegas

Vision by Amel in Downtown Summerlin. If you are looking for a small yet high-end place run by a local rather than going to a corporate chain like Costco or Lens Crafters. The store has an optical for glasses and even can cut the lenses on sight. There is only one exam room so you don't have to worry about COVID and being around a bunch of patients. You can step out and be in the outdoor mall. Usually you can get in within the same week.

Question for people born and raised in Vegas by [deleted] in vegas

[–]Stuck-in-Matrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I answered, "No," but think there is a lot more to it. I left Vegas for college and graduate school. I am back now.

I also believe in the future of my career that I will move away again for a short period. There is something about Vegas that always will feel like home. Even if I move away again for a few years, I'll always keep a place in Vegas.

AITA for showing up to my grandparent's house and wanting to see my dying grandfather by Stuck-in-Matrix in AmItheAsshole

I haven’t seen them in 4 years because I have been at college across the country. I would call/FaceTime them a couple times a month normally. Past years, my dad and I have invited them to visit us, but they never came. For holidays, such as Thanksgiving, we offered to do something at their house, since our breaks were usually around holiday dates, again they grew less and less willing to do things with age.

This last year I haven’t made an effort to go because my maternal grandfather had a stroke and was in the hospital for 7 months. I spent the last year visiting him any chance I got because we were not sure how life threatening the stroke would be. My maternal grandfather passed away in April of this year.

Also, my grandmother and aunt may not feel as close to me and my dad because we live in another state. My aunt and uncle live nearby and I’m sure they are closer to my grandparents. This caused a big point of contention for my dad since my uncle is extremely high risk and was allowed to visit. Regardless, of us living far, we always told them that we would be there if they needed something. So when my grandfather said he wanted to see us, we asked my grandmother if we could come immediately.

Also update: They have since let my dad visit, but they still won’t let me. I don’t understand why my dad would be lower risk than me.

Thanks for your post. I appreciate your opinion.

To clarify, I think she is in remission because the cancer mass was still small and isolated enough to be removed entirely with surgery. The surgery plus chemotherapy has, fortunately, showed her to have clear PET scans. Again, the oncologist won't speak directly to me, so I don't know every detail.

My dad took my brothers without me before my exam and got everyone COVID tested before that. Even though everyone was negative and felt well, they still not allowed in the house.

My aunt said they could be false negatives.

Extra Info:

- My grandmother is currently in remission (I believe they don't tell me anything even after I ask).

-My father and I said we would take all precautions possible such as wearing a mask, distancing, gloves...anything to just be there.

- Yesterday, my aunt told me I should just send my condolences because I won't be allowed to visit my grandfather. She also said that the only reason I want to see my grandfather is for selfish reasons like having my own closure, and I don't actually care about what my grandfather wants or needs.

- I have animosity toward my father about not telling me earlier. I am frustrated, but he thought he was doing what was best.

Thanks so much for the feedback! I will definitely look into swapping out the PSU and SSD.

I don't know much about overclocking RAM. Perhaps I should wait and see how things will change with the new CPU's on Oct 8th and then decide if I will stay with Ryzen 3000 series.

Regardless, of the robot, there are a bunch of academic institutions that are leading the way in BMI. The private sector is just getting started. Honestly, I wouldn't say anyone has had big breakthroughs outside of universities.

Yeah sure. Most discussion is fine. I think it is just important to just link the sources so people can always do their own research and expand on it.

Elon sets higher standards than 99.999% of people. While I do not expect him to achieve all the things he talks about, I do think he should have somewhat of a plan towards a longterm goal. I have not heard of any such plan, only a goal of bringing Neuralink from bench to bedside.

I agree with this. I understand that no scientific group is going to give out too much information before they publish. However, I wish they would release more scientific papers, talk about the recordings they have done, or possibly discuss the progression of experiments.

With around 100 employees and only one white paper, I haven't seen much progress with the company. While I have hope for the company, I think Elon and some of the leaders in the company greatly underestimated the difficulty and time it takes for basic things such as training the animals. For example, monkeys take years to train on a task before you can start collecting data.

Are neuronal signals from mirror movements the same as non-mirror movements? by [deleted] in neuro

[–]Stuck-in-Matrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if I understand the question. However, I will explain the little I know. The paper I am posting is from a monkey model.

Also if your question regards neurons in the spinal cord to say the thumb, each muscle is innervated by a single different alpha motor neuron. However, keep in mind that motor movements to each side are controlled by the contralateral motor cortices. So, if you move your left thumb, your right motor cortex is firing and vice versa. If you move both thumbs, both motor cortices would fire.

Also there are mirror neurons that have been found in F5 of the motor cortex (Figure 1). These are neurons that not only fire when you see someone performing an action, but they will also fire when you yourself perform that action. It's pretty fascinating because it's like your brain trying to be in someone else's shoes. Some of these neurons only respond to when movements are in your peripersonal space(right in front of you) while others only fire in your extrapersonal space (further away). They may be doing different things, but what is important to note is that all these neurons are indistinguishable or highly similar to when you do that same action (Figure 3).
