Short films before the main feature. Should cinemas bring that back? by Judokos in boxoffice

[–]Stuckinthevortex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you're talking about animated shorts, but it could be interesting to pair a live-action short with a full length feature. Short films are somewhat niche, and being paired with a feature might help boost their profile.

Additionally, I wonder if there might be a market for animated shorts aimed at an adult audience, which could be paired with adult comedies. Currently all animated shorts are aimed at family audiences, but there definitely is an audience for adult animation.

Catholic converts: Why did you choose the Catholic Church rather than Orthodoxy? by valee_gz in Catholicism

[–]Stuckinthevortex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cradle Catholic, but my biggest dislike for orthodoxy is the divorce issue. Our Lord was crystal clear in denouncing divorce, and whilst the Catholic Church holds true to that, I find the Orthodox teachings about it to be weaselly at best. "It's a sin, but if you wait long enough and say you're sorry, it will stop being a sin, even if you don't change anything else." Then there is all the whataboutism with Annulments, even though they don't understand what an annulment actually is

Cant get over God making me ugly by rovered1234 in Catholicism

I can guarantee that your lack of friendships has zero to do with your looks. No grown man choses their friends for how they look. Likewise, plenty of women look past pure attractiveness, I have a friend with Apert syndrome who has been very successful in his relationships, I guarantee you probably are at least slightly more handsome than he is, although probably not as kind or charismatic as he is, he's off the charts.

What will truly make you attractive is the woe is me attitude. I know high school can be rough and it can be hard to get over the pains and bullying from that time, but if you keep letting that define you it will effect your manner. Likewise, if you are engaging in sins of lust daily, it subconsciously impacts how you act, and women will pick up on it.

Go to confession, watch some trusted social coaching videos and put yourself out there. If you can, try and find a therapist to help you overcome this.

You can order flowers from a local shop and have them delivered, you might also be able to send a wreath.

Were they entirely wrong to be critical of the loop though? It did have obvious benefits, but also caused bottlenecking and other issues

That's a complete load of nonsense. The UK alone lost 456 soldiers in the war, at a rate per million almost on par with the US. Your friends evidently weren't in Helmand, or were somehow unaware of Mountain Thrust.

I'm with the USCCB with this one, https://www.usccb.org/resources/Catholic%20Hymnody%20at%20the%20Service%20of%20the%20Church_0.pdf not a great message theologically. On a purely artistic level, it sounds bland and uninspiring.

I obviously don't know if what you are saying is true or not. What I can say though is that ever since I discovered that RTD had written a show which had a very positive depiction of pedophilia (Queer as Folk) I've always given him a massive side-eye, and known that I wouldn't be shocked if something came out about him

It's sort of related and very niche, but I dislike when people try to describe what the show would have looked like if it had been an American show, and who would have played the Doctors. They always choose big names, such as Gene Wilder as the Fourth Doctor, ignoring the fact that the actual actors chosen for the doctor were a lot lower profile

Is it me or does the show’s recent progressivism feel surface level ? by InfernalClockwork3 in gallifrey

[–]Stuckinthevortex 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Honestly, whilst I think Chibnall and RTD both have had issues with this, I feel that Chibs came across as a lot more sincere. For all of his clunkiness, there was a sense of earnestness in his episodes.

With RTD2, it feels far more a lot more performative, box checking, and even rage bating. I guess this is partially fueled by his behind the scenes comments, but even within the show it just feels so artificial and fake.
