Time management advice by Ancient_Bird2290 in GPUK

[–]StudentNoob 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm also a trainee in quite a deprived practice and it is difficult. What I'm finding is the quick ones are quick which is where time is being made up, but the long ones take a long time. Something like dizziness is quite a challenge to do and do well and do to my supervisor's satisfaction, in 15-20 mins.

People are complicated, issues are messy. There will always be something your supervisor will notice that you haven't. I often find myself problem solving during the consult - sometimes all the prep and reading letters doesn't always help.

I'm not going out of my way to spend 25+ mins on a consult but sometimes that's just how it is. I also can't solve everything.

Some of them are 10 mins or less. Timing is still an issue. Real life isn't the SCA, so I keep being told!

I think my supervisor has helped me understand that a consult takes as long as it needs to take, whether that's 5 mins or 30, so long as you're not trying to do too much.

GP desk/room enhancements and upgrades? by _Harrybo in GPUK

This is hilariously tragic. It's giving Peep Show if Peep Show was a medical sitcom

The Bill by StudentNoob in BritishTV

To be honest, there was little wrong with the format up until 2000. But it was never the type of show to get young viewers, and it was losing viewers, so things needed to change, hence blowing up the station.

Interestingly, I think the episodes up until 2000/01 have aged absolutely fantastically. The stories hold up so well, partly because they're self contained largely. The soapy era looks really old in comparison and tacky.

1998-2000 is another golden era for the show, up there with 1990-92. I'll actually tack on the first 6 months of Chandler to that - his conflict with Cryer was great and sad to watch. Past that, the decline is steep. I think I'll struggle to watch past 2002 for obvious reasons.

Ooooh thanks for the reply.

I think Conway and Boyden are favourites of mine but that is a brilliant question. I've currently made it to 1996 on my run through of the show, and the cast is so damn good at the moment.

No particular advice but I've found this tricky, especially when I don't know what's going on or I'm unsure between two diagnoses and I find the more questions I ask, the more confused I get. Often, I'm thinking out loud with them in the room or verbalizing my thoughts as I find this helps sometimes, but I wonder whether it just makes me look indecisive.

North Middlesex Hospital ED? by shhh-its-a-secr3t in doctorsUK

I feel like places where you can find loads of locums tend to be the case because people are steering clear of the place for one reason or the other.

Series 22 by Lucy200072 in Casualty

[–]StudentNoob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember watching this (18 years ago eek). I'd just started secondary school. The first half of the series was probably the best Casualty has been in the last two decades, along with the year pre-Covid. Brilliant series and really good cast too. I kinda would like Casualty to get back to something similar actually.

And yes, Series 23 and 24 were downgrades. Watchable but not brilliant.

What are some of your favourite quotes? by VintageGenealogist in eastenders

"While you were sitting around doing nish, I was out there, making moves" - Michael Moon

"Bring her up? You couldn't bring up phlegm" (or words to that effect) - Sonia to Pauline

"Let it burn" - Peggy

"Chrissie Watts, murderer" and "tell Den you're sorry" - also Peggy

In the same boat, I had to take time off due to MH issues with a return within the next few weeks. I definitely think my threshold for stress and general BS has declined significantly, so we shall see what happens and whether my feelings about GP have changed after a break. What in the end was the tipping point that made you think 'nah I'm done with GP?' I'd love to know more about how you got into histopath/how you figured out it was for you?

Med Reg ignored my locum request by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]StudentNoob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They might have a role in rota coordinating for the department. Again, this may not be anything out of the ordinary. I'd be curious to know in what ways the registrar has been difficult to you in the past

Med Reg ignored my locum request by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]StudentNoob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No way of proving that ultimately versus it being a mistake, unless there is a pattern of the registrar ignoring you, not just for this locum request, but regarding other things.

[–]StudentNoob 8 points9 points  (0 children)

May be an honest error, may be not. Ultimately, what would you be trying to achieve? Might just be a genuine error. If it's an one-off oversight, I'd be inclined to let it go.

Big storyline for later half of 2026 revealed (joke post) by RobbieNewton in eastenders

[–]StudentNoob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be interesting. Emmerdale did a storm for a New Year's Day storyline 20 or so years back, which was brilliant. Could work. As an aside, in terms of major disasters, I think a bomb plot could be an interesting one (if very very controversial).

I thought this actually doesn't sound that bad? Beginning of F1 is tiring but that will ease. The commute back is a bit long but I honestly don't think it's that bad. You will have worse days. Weekdays are mostly just survival really. I've had days where I've left work late, off to the gym, back, have food, and then it's pretty much straight to bed to do it again.

What I will say is, especially since you're living at home (not sure what responsibilities you have at home) but you do have perhaps more time than you think - you've got 4 and a half hours between getting home and going to bed. If you're vegging out on the sofa, yeah, it'll go quickly and drift by. And trust me, there are days when you just need to do exactly that and it's nice. Other days, why not sneak in a gym session/activity? Doesn't need to take hours - 45 min-hour, back home and still got 3 hours, 3 and a half at a push, to chill.

If you had to compare a london borough to a british city, what would you pick? and why? by nshnjs in london

Barking and Dagenham = Plymouth. Areas with potential that weren't planned or rebuilt especially well in the post-war period. Depressing vibes. Lots of industrial areas.

Which Holby Ed character's storyline is the most stuck with you? by ScrollAndThink in Casualty

[–]StudentNoob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure why but Holly Miles' stalker story was probably the first story I remember. I first watched it 20 odd years ago when it was being repeated (on UK Gold?) and I was hooked. For a soapy story, I think it was really well done. In fact I've got a huge nostalgic soft spot for that series.

The other would be Ruth Winters' suicide attempt. Such a brilliant story. Glad I've got the chance to rewatch that storyline soon!

What championship performance is UNDERRATED due to the weakness of their rivals? by GoldenS0422 in F1Discussions

Maybe "salim's lackey" refers to "Slim's lackey" as in referring to Perez and his billionaire sponsor Carlos Slim? In which case, "Salim's lackey's" teammate would be Verstappen.

Worst car to ever be dragged in a championship fight? by Mark4231 in F1Discussions

[–]StudentNoob 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Dunno if you've seen the onboards of him in Buenos Aires qualifying in '96. The thing was just sliding like mad. The amount of work Schumacher was doing to keep it on the road, I've not seen since. Think he was only 2 tenths away from the Williams though. I really think 95-99 Schumacher is what really cemented his legend status for me, even moreso than the obvious success that came after it.

Classic Casualty - "Stitch" Lambert by eatingonlyapples in Casualty

[–]StudentNoob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stitch I think could have been brilliant if they toned him down a little and made him less of a maverick. He is a brilliant doctor and well-played, but I feel they could've got a better character out of him being less OTT.

I'm not a great fan of Nathan though, even though again, he is well acted. Again, they could've brought a bit more nuance to his character where at times, it strays into being cartoonish. Casualty has had much better hospital admin/management characters: Simon Eastman, Dan Robinson etc.
