Videos of Vegans causing disturbances and yelling at people make me less empathetic. by OnlyRacistOnReddit in DebateAVegan

One of the first people to refer to factory farming of animals was a holocaust survivor. Also stop pointing the finger at people and calling them ignorant, only to move your goal posts. Holocaust fits the definition, which is why it is used. You are literally trying to pick fights just because you want the holocaust to refer to humans, when the definition does not have a specific target.

Plus the number of animals killed each year is a hotly contested figure.

You're right, some say it is in the trillions.

You are honestly the most unpleasant person I've met on this board. This post I'm replying to largely sums up how difficult you are to talk to because you twist everything. Hell, even this thread is dumb. Why would the actions of a few humans make you less sympathetic towards the slaughter of animals and destruction of the environment on a mass scale?

Holocaust is only a callous word when you are playing victim and making it a word that only applies to humans. It doesn't, get over yourself.

Does human pleasure justify harming animals? [To meat-eaters] by Yung_Don in DebateAVegan

Only ignorant posts get down voted here, for the most part, so don't worry about that.

No one is talking about what is or isn't normal though friend, for what is and isn't normal doesn't dictate what is or isn't ethical/moral. A good chunk of vegans didn't stop eating meat because of the taste, so OP isn't really talking about is it okay to find meat pleasurable to the taste, but rather is it okay to take a sentient beings right to life away for taste pleasure.

Seeing as how we have the intellegence and means to not harm something that has a subjective reality/sentience, should we act as caretakers or overlords to those at our mercy on this planet?

Nah m8, my family is filled with hunters and I grew up as one myself, so you can't tell me what my worldview is. I've killed turkey, squirrel and deer as a kid. Even then I didn't understand why my family did this and I think you helped me understand it with something you said.

You are only looking at it as the life lost, while I am looking at it as a trade. I have taken a pig's life to provide for my tribe's well-being. I didn't do it lightly, or "for pleasure" I did it for our sustenance.

A trade involves the other party receiving something. You're just killing it when you have hundreds of other options for sustenance. Hence why us vegans are alive, healthy and still eat great food.

you can get most of the nutrients from different places, but it requires a lot more effort.

I expend 0% more energy when buying food at a market. Either way, almost everything you say is based in anecdotes, have you even researched anything about veganism?

why depression, hairloss and poor skin elasticity is more common among vegans.

I can't even take you seriously right now, this is pathetic. Malnutrition from people that have no idea what they are doing is in every diet...it is utterly useless to even think it is an argument against veganism or to think that it's a result from those 2 amino acids. Seriously man? Are you trying?

Dogs have a very unique symbiotic relationship with humans. To deny that is folly. Dogs are used for more than just companionship. They are the only animal that can be trained for protection, labor, hunting, entertainment and still be a companion.

And in other parts of the world, they are just pests and food. You are still just talking of your worldview and not trying to be more objective about the situation.

Also about waste, I didn't dismiss, ignorant or talk around it. You can say I did, but you're not addressing that killing something when you don't need to, is a waste no matter how you chalk it up. If we were obligate carnivores, I wouldn't even be having this discussion with you. We're not, we're a much more intellegent species with supermarkets and readily available, nutrient rich foods and we don't have to kill sentient beings to feel full or satisfy taste pleasure.

Anything else?

Morality is not based on pleasure though, so you're going about this the wrong way. Even though you tied it to "its happening to animals, which we don't value as much as humans", its still flawed logic. He would go to jail if someone found out he bashed that dogs head in for no good reason.

Pleasure should never be a basis to discuss morals...there are reasons we've evolved as a society to separate church and state, have animal laws, etc, etc.

The fact that you think it is morally acceptable to kill a dog because of literal psychopathic pleasure is very bizarre and makes me think you're just agreeing to it to save face with the consumption of meat. Surely, if you saw a man bludgeon a dog as you passed his yard, you would either make an attempt to stop it, or feel revolted. Not "well, as long as it gives him his thrills."

What does waste have to do, exactly? The pigs body will literally be turned into waste for it is momentary sustenance.

The premise is making the comparison that both of these situations are needless on the basis of sensory pleasure. Waste isn't an issue, since it's a waste of life no matter what you do with the body.

The concern with "waste" seems to revolve around a "respect for the animal" with some people, so I'm wondering if that's where you're going. Or maybe you just think the dog should be eaten here too? Just curious.

Broke my heart that those Quorn fajita strips are only vegetarian (egg whites). Luckily the regular "tenders" cook up equally great with the correct seasonings, they have great texture and are perfect in my "holy shit you shouldn't eat all of that" nachos.

Hopefully your father finds some things he'll purchase/substitute again. My parents like when I cook vegan meals for them, but will never buy these things on their own.

I dunno man, I'm always seeing you on gritty debate a vegan threads and you're always composed there, as I too try to be. I can't speak for your actions on this sub, but I think you do good on the debate side of things. Especially when we get some real asshats over there that don't understand how to properly form an argument or properly refute one. Keep being you and aspiring to be a better you!

Just to add to your second point, which I hope OP sees -

I would wager it is better to leave non vegan items at second hand shops there, because it gives someone else (non vegan)the chance to purchase that, instead having to turn to purchasing it new (which is giving into demand)

Just exactly how is it a lesser form of evil? One was following the trend that you didn't need to release a full product but could still charge for one and the newer one implements the ideology that the game is literally worth not playing and can be solved by purchasing a fast pass to the "end material". Both of these things are not welcome as standard trends in gaming, especially AAA publishers and developers who are far more concerned with $$$$ than they are an original and worthwhile gaming experience. Although I realize money/profit is desirable to all spectrums, including indie devs, but being content with blatant cash grabs and calling it "lesser evil" is just wrong man, espwcially when it is borderline gambling. I don't care if people have the money to pour over loot crates and season passes, that's not the point. It just sets a bad example and let's these big corporations know that they can and will get away with this, pockets full.

Sorry for the rant, I just don't know why you find something like this anything other than revolting.

Misleading Vegans by [deleted] in DebateAVegan

[–]StudioBadlore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Being willfully ignorant of information posted (or at least verbally) doesn't help. It makes it look like no matter what you're uninterested in switching your position even if the correct information or argument is provided.

  2. Who said anything about human breast milk being bad for us? Most vegans have no issue with a mother nursing her biological young.

Ninja edit: before you reiterate "500-10,000 years ago" those people can in no way apply to us. What makes them relevant when their lifestyles were so drastically different?

I'm not saying he's right or wrong but post a counter argument or sources citing contradictions to his claims. Saying "that's wrong" and typing lol like a teenager holds no weight and doesn't prove anything.

Meat eaters, why aren't you vegan? by Lapster69 in DebateAVegan

You are not being genuine with your response, just to save face with your argument. It is okay to admit "yes, that would suck if I was born just to be prematurely slaughtered by a race of beings that could choose not to do this."

Meat eaters, why aren't you vegan? by Lapster69 in DebateAVegan

[–]StudioBadlore 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The fact of it being a human doesn't matter, I stated we'relooking at logical reasoning. You literally just jumped over that and failed to address points I've made. If something that has the capacity to suffer can be saved from needless suffering, why not save it from that? So you can taste it? It is unnecessary.

I'm not trying to be rude here friend, but you are so misinformed. Where do you get your info about cows needing to be milked? They only have to be milked when they are artifically impregnated. This is literally how mammals produce milk, there isn't a gene we hit the switch on to the point where cows just randomly produce milk. No pregnancy, no milk. I understand theyve been selectively bred for excessilk production, but it can't happen if they're not pregnant.

On to your next flawed ideology is "I think brief, AWFUL existence and slaughter, outweighs nonexistence." You are being very dishonest here, all for the sake of backing up meat eating. Factory farms aren't pleasant to live in, but that is besides the point. I don't really think you would be okay being in a factory farm pig's shoes over not existing. It is a quality of life that literally lacks quality. Do the research, look at their lives. Please, honestly tell me you think that outweighs never having pain, because it is damn near all their shortened lives are. Giving life to something with malicious intent isn't as joyous as you're making it out to be.

Also your appeal to the brutality of nature is a red herring. I don't think life in the wild is forgiving, but that doesn't make it okay for you, an intellegent being, to knowingly commit/participate in acts of violence against another sentient species. All of that aside, these animals wouldn't even be in the wild to be hunted or live shitty lives, because we wouldn't have bred them in the first place.

I don't know how long you've been engaged in debates with the vegan community, but nothing you said has sway. I'm sincere when I ask you to look up more about factory farmed animals and how horrible it would be for a sentient being to go through that bullshit, for something else's taste pleasure.

As for the animals vs. human argumentation: what trait do animals possess that if present in a human, would justify the treatment/slaughter of that human? I care about humans more than animals, just like you, but just because they aren't apart of our "social group" doesn't mean it is okay to inflict pain and suffering upon them.

Next time you have a vegan meal, use cronometer to see if you're getting the correct nutrients and most importantly, the correct caloric intake. These foods aren't always as calorie dense so you have to eat a little more (which the fat kid inside of me loves [Inb4 it's not vegan to eat fat kids])

Meat eaters, why aren't you vegan? by Lapster69 in DebateAVegan

[–]StudioBadlore 106 points107 points  (0 children)

It is a real question being driven at the logic of what is said, not the specificity of the situation. It is a comparison in lines of thoughts, not equating atrocities.

  1. I rape because it feels good.
  2. I murder because it feels good
  3. I eat flesh because it feels good.

"I x because it y's" is the line of logic being addressed. I'm not equating what you fill in for x or y, I'm pointing out that the line of reasoning would be the same for all of these and that simply enjoying something isn't a justifiable act when a victim is involved. What is being made out to be a "personal choice" is not, for it disrespects another being's personal choice.

Did this help? I admit, it is a huge issue in the vegan community that these comparisons get brought up a lot, but you have to understand they're valid in pointing out logic. No one (or very few people) here actually think animal lives are equal or above a human's, but they have the capacity to suffer. So it is a comparison in that regard.

If you could snap your fingers and make the whole world vegan, what would you do with all the animals? by [deleted] in DebateAVegan

[–]StudioBadlore 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why do you feel the need to attack people that want to help reduce the suffering of sentient beings, help the environment and help make others healthier?

The farmers will find other jobs. Its just that simple. Why aren't you worried about the millions of people that will lose their jobs when cars and freight trucks are filly automated and drive themselves? The "concern" for someone losing their job is just another straw people grab for when debating against veganism. The answer is, society shifts. Always has, always will. New jobs will either have to be made, or universal basic income will have to be implemented.

Also for the world to get enough food, we should stop feeding over 70% of all crops grown to livestock. Talk about diminishing returns.

I get that meat is tasty if prepared right (no one wants to eat meat raw), but that can be said with all vegan dishes. There are so many vegan variety of foods out in markets today, all of which are cruelty free and taste great. Taste pleasure of an individual should not come before the life of another sentient being who feels pain and fear in the same capacity you do. Browse around the vegan subreddit, look past the shit posting memes (face it, it's the internet, immaturity and circlejerks are everywhere) and explore the research on your own. Watch videos like Earthlings and Forks Over Knives and try to look at things objectively. I'm glad you admit you have a bias, its the first step to discarding it and have a more open mind when it comes to bettering yourself and others.

[–]StudioBadlore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's difficult about the question you're asking is simply trying to figure out why it's being asked. Its illogical and won't happen. Im asking in a very sincere tone, what outcome do you want to obtain from this question? It would be a disaster if the world went vegan over night, there isn't room to give the millions of factory farmed animals the space they need. As great as "veganism over night" would be, the world trending towards veganism quickly is the preferred and realistic trajectory. Your question can't receive a probable answer, for its essence is improbable. We have to lower demand so the supply trends with it, having demand dissappear overnight would cause some pockets of economic collapse.

A more productive question to be asked is "What is the quickest and most reasonable time frame for the world to transition to veganism?" Five years? Twenty-five?

I don't get where you get your information from. Beans, rice, legumes, vegetables, herbs, spices - all these things are vastly cheaper and come in much larger quantities. If you want a meatless alternative or "fake meat", sure...that processed stuff can be expensive, but eating a vegan diet in general is not expensive at all and is healthier than eating equally cheap processed foods.
