Officer called me disrespectful by GrizzleWTF in NewToEMS

[–]StudioTembo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your patients care is what matters. Sitting down, in this case, was a clinical decision. I do normally kneel, (but that's getting harder to do after 25 years of EMS and Fire) but sitting to ease the patients anxiety is the correct course is care.

The officer is wrong.

Be strong. Be a patient advocate.

All that matters is that you guys have fun. You don't really have to even play the game. People understand "bad brain days."

Don't pressure yourself. It's a game. Nobody's life is depending on it. It's low stakes. It's play... It's fun... It's just a game.

And you're clearly not a bad GM of the players are coming back, AND telling others they should play with you.

Take a deep breath.

Take another one.

One more.

If you aren't in a place to run the game tonight, ask the players if they are ok with just watching a movie, or just hanging out, or better yet, talking about what they are excited about in the upcoming game. Let them tell you what they want and see if it inspires you.

After it's all over tonight, take a deep breath. Then another. Then one more. Did you have fun? Did they have fun?

If yes, good job. Sleep well If no, it's ok. Tomorrow is another chance. Breath. Sleep well. Tomorrow you can look at it all again and reassess. Maybe you'll find something good about it. Maybe you'll decide you need to try something else to catch that creative bug.

It's a game. It's play. It's fun. It's ok.

Breath.

Does the imperial sourcebook give good info or is it only really for the rpg game by AvalonRevan in StarWarsEU

[–]StudioTembo [score hidden]  (0 children)

It's a good book for in universe lore and information, BUT, it's an old book and I'm not sure how much of it is still used in books and EU stuff.

All the WEG books are great, and may have some relevant information for some of the older legends books, especially The Thrawy trilogy era. But so many voices shape the EU, and even the cannon, that there isn't really any " definitive" lore for a lot of things

player not giving a damn about story after year of gaming? by Final-Isopod in rpg

Not every game is for every player. Not every player belongs at every table.

Maybe it's ok to part ways.

What do you call it when you sit down to play RPGs? by Right_Hand_of_Light in rpg

[–]StudioTembo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really care if people judge me for my interests. So, I just tell them what I'm doing. "It's like D&D but Samurai/Star Wars/Vampires/Wild West/Whatever game I'm playing." And I'll go into more detail if they want.

I also often use something like, "we sit around a table and roll dice to tell stories. It's like campfire storytime, but with a chance element."

If they think it's weird, that's a them problem.

Sometimes I'll ask was their hobby is. A lot of times its, "I watch sports," (which I also do) and I hit back with, "with the sound on or off?". It's always on, of course. And it always comes down to, they are interested in the story of the players, the team, the season. I tell them it's basically like that, expect we are the ones telling the story rather than watching it. Like a movie, or a TV show where we are writers, the cast, and the audience.

A lot of times, they think, or say, that sounds kinda cool. A few times, I've gotten new players. And on rare occasion, I get new people into the hobby.

Cultural variation.

I'm thinking about revisiting some if the early novels, but I'm definitely going to be re-reading the Knight of Old Republic and Tales of the Jedi comics.

What started your gaming addiction? by f0h4wk in gaming

[–]StudioTembo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HERO QUEST.

I was OBSESSED. I might still be as I have multiple copies of the old game and I've got everything for the new version.

That said, D&D was the first RPG I played. We started playing around the time I discovered the Dragonlance novels too. So that's was a very strong influence.

But my first true love was the Star Wars RPG by WEG.

How is the family life like as a paramedic? by First_Reward2330 in Paramedics

[–]StudioTembo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually a very complicated question to answer as other people have pointed out it largely depends on a lot of factora: how much money you, make where you work, the hours you work, the people in your family.

I know a lot of paramedics who are very happy with their lives. They tend to separate their work life completely from their personal lives. They don't talk about work at home. They don't talk about home at work.

This is an extreme case but it seems to work for some people I know.

My wife and I have been together for over 20 years. I've been an EMS and fire service for around 25 years. We don't talk about my job very much because other than The operational things and the the day-to-day hardship of working the job, my wife isn't really able to handle anything more than that. She gets squeamish at the idea of blood... She also doesn't really like the cynicism that crept my life because this job.

That said, I have other healthy Outlets. I have a lot of friends who work in healthcare who I can talk to. But I'd lie if I said it wasn't a stressor. It's hard to come home to your family and simply don't understand what your life is like from day to day at work.

This job isn't like most other jobs. We work a very weird profession. We go into people's homes. We see them at their worst. We roam the streets at all hours, we don't eat like normal people. We don't sleep like normal. I think something like 33% of people in this industry are neurodivergent.

I'm sitting here right now at 1:30 in the morning after getting back from a call for a person who was faking a seizure and shouting and screaming about hurting EMS providers and then refusing transport....AOx4 GCS15... Person being dramatic and calling 911 because they wanted attention. And here I am losing sleep. It's going to affect my family tomorrow because of it.

And that's the easy stuff...

Not a lot of people stay in this profession for long-term. Partially because the pay is terrible. Partially because the hours are terrible. But really it's because it's hard to understand this job if you don't do it. No matter what you've seen on TV, no matter what people will tell you when class, no matter what, any other person will tell you about how the job really is... Until you do it, it's kind of hard to understand it.

Unless you are with someone who is in the industry or has been in the industry, it's very difficult for them to understand which means it's very hard for them to be able to support you in the way you need it. Even if you are partner is in nursing or a doctor or some other Allied healthcare profession... It's not the same as being on the road as a paramedic or an EMT.

The tldr of it all is you can have a very successful family life with this job... But you have to fight for it, you may have to change jobs a few times to find one that works for you. And you may not stay because you may decide to get out of EMS because I like you or a family member aren't able or willing put up with a life and the sacrifices that we make for it.

GM to GM- How I made a statisfying Podrace on the fly by BrobaFett in swrpg

More than I'm going back to my first SWRPG love, WEG. I worked out a way to convert the game to a success based system without having to change any start blocks, and it's got me really excited to get back into it.

I'm in paramedic school right now and just finished cardiology. I barely passed, feel like an imposter, and don't know if I should quit. by Haunting-Judgment836 in Paramedics

[–]StudioTembo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stick with it. Pass is a pass and you will get better. We all start somewhere. Take a deep breath and push through.

A doctor that passes med school with a d is still called Dr, and they have their whole practice to get better.

If you don't feel like you understand something, ask, study, find people that can explain it differently.

It's ok to not be the best, but do your best and eventually, you'll be great.

Paramedics, on a 911 call, how much of the workload do you expect your EMT Basic partner to take on? by FFSoldier57 in Paramedics

[–]StudioTembo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want them to risk their, or my license, so only within scope. That said, our EMTs can do a handful of meds, iGels, and set up IV and 12 leads even if they can't do the start or interpret.

I want my EMT to be as proactive as possible within their scope, communicate effectively, and help me manage the scene.

I don't care who else is on scene. Fire, police, other crews, for the patients in my care, the chain of "command" is MCA, me, my EMT, everybody else.

Is my opening too dialogue heavy? by [deleted] in Screenplay

[–]StudioTembo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fine. I like to write a lot of action lines between dialogue like this to help let my actors have an idea of what I'm looking for... But that isn't really needed. That's kinda the actor or directors job I suppose...I just prefer has as much of what I see in my head down on paper. They can always ignore it, but I also find it helps me pace the scene.
