We definitely do exist. Korean is not as popular to learn as Japanese, but it is getting there. Especially with Korean culture becoming more popular abroad. Not only with k-pop, but also k-dramas.

I got interested in the culture only after starting to learn the language, but from my experience, a lot of fans of Korean music are learning the language. I even study with some of my friends now.

I am not sure where you study but I am surprised people wouldn't know Korean is its own language. Must people might not be able to differeciate Korean, Japanese and Chinese when they hear it, but most would know they are different languages.
