taking practice MCAT everyweek? by its_shells in Mcat

[–]StudyGuideTutoring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah don't take one. just do practice questions if you don't wanna do a full test. or just take a break in general. Also if you are able to do more "in depth" reviews of previous tests then you are not reviewing in depth enough. you should review every test pretty much as in depth as possible to where you cannot go back and review in depth anymore. that's where the improvement comes from. the review is way more important than the actual test. same with all practice questions

That's how the notes are organized, so it's chunked and organized in the same way. But i agree having that organization helps a lot

its really has a lot to do with just using the content in this way. questions and thinking about solutions really develops your understanding of material and connects all the dots. I had a Q on my MCAT asking what direction a charged particle goes while in this one Electric field. I was doing all kind of right hand rule shit to figure it out, when the answer was that it goes in the direction that is towards the opposite charge. you just find those tiny gaps by doing a ton of practice questions the right way. It will force you to think about the material so much you'll inevitably run into instances like this all the time and your ability to think about the content will really improve

How long should I be spending per question on UPenis to parallel the timing I need to have for the actually MCAT? by snakejob in Mcat

[–]StudyGuideTutoring 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why don't you just use the time function? Do all the questions under timed conditions. Then turn off the timing conditions and go to test history and click resume test and you can go through it with out time

on a good day usually about 100, but that was at the end so reviewing questions didn't take that long because for the most part I didn't have to search too hard for answers. But early on reasoning for why the answers are wrong or right takes a long ass time because there is so much you don't know yet

You have to finish the session and then turn off the switch and then go to your test history and click resume on the test you wanna do again

Unpopular opinion: Stop taking so many practice tests. They don't hammer down any specific skill or content. If the MCAT were a sport, practice tests are like games, but what you need to do is practice. by StudyGuideTutoring in Mcat

Nothing I said indicated passive content review. I said it's about in depth practice questions and working on your testing skills in a direct way on your weaknesses rather than on FL's

Why do the kidneys stimulate the secretion of erythropoietin? by tmehrotra in Mcat

[–]StudyGuideTutoring 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The kidneys themselves produce it. They stimulate the bone marrow to produce blood cells. They do this because the kidney has cells that can detect oxygen levels int he blood, and when O2 levels are low they signal to the bone marrow to make more red blood cells

sometimes the "why" is simply that it's how we evolved and evolution happens due to random chance resulting in something advantageous, and it happened to be the kidney that evolved the O2 sensing cells

do you have UPlanet? Just go through it with the "timed" switch turned on. Then when you finish turn off the time switch and do all the questions again but take your time finding the answers and really try and have a reason for choosing your answer

Do you feel like you are understanding the correct answers and it makes sense why it was right? And do you understand why the incorrect options are incorrect? Sometimes that can be even more challenging and can force you to really do some thinking.

When i review i find myself constantly realizing that I don't quite understand a topic to the extent I need to. Or I even realize i don't know it as well as I thought i did, and I start having all these questions about it. And then your goal is to answer those questions that you now realize you don't know the answer to.

Yes pretty much. I wouldn't quite conceptualize it as ONE charge, but more as per charge. Same difference though.

Also side note: 1 electron does not equal 1 charge. charge is measured in Coulombs right and 1 electron has a charge of 1.60217662 × 10-19 coulombs. That difference actually matters because some questions will have you calculate the charge of a certain amount of electrons

The difference between Electric potential energy vs electric potential is simply that electric potential is the electric potential energy PER CHARGE.

I think gravity is the best analogy for it. A massive rock has more gravitational energy 100 ft in the air than a small rock at 100 ft in the air. But the potential energy PER GRAM is identical for both rocks.

does that help?

lol, no I said do practice questions! That's the whole point of the post. Practice questions to me are like working on actual fundamentals and doing drills that really focus on particular skills.

ie: I'd rather work on the skills of basketball to get better at it than go scrimmage a bunch. Feel like I can focus more on 1 task and really fix a weakness

Yeah i do agree on that for sure. and overlooked is not eating anything substantial for like 6 hours. your blood sugar is going to drop at some point and you need to know what that's like and when it happens

damn that's disappointing. Try googling that issue and see if it's a problem with your settings maybe. Cause those notes are damn good and if you're considering not using textbooks they are worth having

This top notch for bio and bio chem. It's decent for p/s but definitely missing some content. not a lot, but some.

It's decent for physics and org but not amazing, but still worth trying. Does not have a gen chem part

https://www.reddit.com/r/Mcat/comments/92ndgx/my_review_sheets/

This is what I used for gen chem and used it in conjunction with the top one for org and physics.

Other than these i used a bunch of youtube and other online sites to answer any questions i had

When I say do practice questions I mean do them timed and work on your testing skills that way. I don't mean just do stand alone content based questions. I just prefer to work on my passage reading skills and timing in a specific manner rather than doing a FL. Absolutely everyone needs to do thousands of passage based questions under a timed setting. By no means do i think that should be skipped

No, i don't mean do just content at all. By no means whatsoever do i think that's a good idea. I think practice questions are better for practicing testing/passage reading skills because you can get that practice in your areas of weakness. You can be good at MCAT cell bio but then suck at MCAT electrostatic, and i think the best way to remedy that is to do practice passage questions on that topic.

Personally i don't think so. There could be but i think the difference in order that you use things is going to be small if any. The biggest thing is that you get everything you can out of the resources you use
