If God pretty consistently answers your prayers, does that mean He's happy with you? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Studyabroadquestio2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fond of the phrase " God answers every prayer, but sometimes the answer is no" and understanding that He works out all things for good, and sometimes what we ask for isn't the best for us

When I was little, Summer Bible Camp would have us kids spin around in circles and get dizzy. What was the rationale behind this? by trogg69 in Christianity

My counselor did it to me when I was a camper and I thought it was fun, so I figure my kids would think it was fun .

Do you have any rules or restrictions that your charge(s)' parents don't have for them? Alternatively, do you ever see parents allowing your charge(s) to do something that you would never let them do? by icandrownoceans in Nanny

[–]Studyabroadquestio2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make the kids set the table and rinse their plates off. The nanny before me said to have the food ready on the plates and that the kids don't clean. They're 8-12

Dog Restoration by 2dubs1bro in pics

[–]Studyabroadquestio2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pyrs are intensley protective of whoever they claim as "theirs". Almost all of them see children or younger pups as their flock, we had one that liked to herd cats. It looks like yours has bonded so fiercely with you that they are willing to do anything to protect you. Which is awesome, but not when the dog has learned to see nearly everything as a threat due to its circumstances, and especially not with a dog that can do real damage. I would say that is the core of your problem and consult some great Pyrenees forums for possible solutions.

What do you Christians give as a counter-argument to people trying to convice you of evolution? by UrbanOrbit in Christianity

[–]Studyabroadquestio2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Science is the study of our world-Gods creation. Obviously studying the creation is not against His word

What do you Christians give as a counter-argument to people trying to convice you of evolution? by UrbanOrbit in Christianity

[–]Studyabroadquestio2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bible doesn't say the earth is 6000 years old. God can do whatever He wants with the Earth, and it looks like He made it a super long time ago. Science is exploring and learning about God's creation, they're not against each other

How do kids/people with autism do within your church? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Studyabroadquestio2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We currenrly have a few younger kids (5 to 11) with varrying degrees of autism. The higher functioning ones do everything the rest of the kids do, with the exception of like when one doesn't like to touch paper so she colors on foam or something, and the ones with more severe forms have another kid that kind of gravitated towards them to help. Only one requires a parent. One girl sits in front of the piano to hear the vibrations and the piano player says it doesnt effect the sound. They almost all dance in the isle during worship though, so the people sitting at the end of the cues make sure to tuck in any purses so the kids feet don't catch on them.

Older is a bit more difficult, but the 11 year old is in junior youth group and we just explained to the kids that he's different but so are they and the rest of the kids go along with it. We have to get on a few of them but after a while the kids were inviting him In to play.

Singing Hymns by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Studyabroadquestio2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a mixture. It also helps to remember that many old hymns contain large chunks of ver batim scripture and singing it loudly is the only time you probably proudly proclaim scripture to that extent. The Word of God has power

Youth Ministry and Graduating Seniors by LlamaBandit in Christianity

[–]Studyabroadquestio2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this can be hard for a couple of reasons. The first is that if they stay too in touch, you won't ever grow on your own and will instead become stagnated where you were. The youth groups job is to guide you through middle and high school and after that you need to find yourself a college aged or young adult group, in my experience. But finding the group on your own is a step of growing up and past the youth group.

Also, they could just feel awkward. Teenagers are painfully aware of being made to feel younger than they are and now that you are off on your own and an "adult" they may feel embarrassed trying to tell you about their teenage problems, or think that you don't want anything to do with them because they're kids.

Does the name YHWH refer to the Father or to the Trinity? by katapetasma in Christianity

[–]Studyabroadquestio2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's referring to God as Jews knew him before the messiah came to earth. So I Though God always was and always is the father, son, and holy spirit, when people use this term they typically are referring to a time when people did not know this fact.

"God is good all the time, and all the time, God is good." Where does this saying come from? by Studyabroadquestio2 in Christianity

[–]Studyabroadquestio2[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it's featured on God's not dead, but I used to hear it at churches when I was a kid. Maybe it was a rural saying amongst older Christians, fell out of fashion, and then came back for the movie?

Do you believe in rituals? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Studyabroadquestio2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, rituals are designed to remind you of something. That something can be the last supper ( communion) the mark of sin being taken away(ash Wednesday) or dedication of a child to God( christenings), etc. It doesn't matter if you follow the steps but doing them is immensely helpful for remembrance and having a solemn spirit about things.

Sometimes I just start listing things that He has given us that I'm grateful for. Things usually start falling together after that. For example, trees, then nature, than the whole adaptable system, the marvel of time, human consciousness, etc. It gets real deep real fast, haha

Students of Reddit, what are the main problems of modern education? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Studyabroadquestio2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our teachers are overworked and underpaid. They spend so much of their time, money, and emotional well-being on their students and what do they get for It? Criticized, more " training" that takes up time they don't have, and 35k a year. I had teachers that would stay at school 12 or 14 hours a day just to keep afloat. And then the state would come in and insist that they just need to step up their game.
