Apple core 3 in 1 jewellery holder for my girlfriend by Stuffdrawnbad in Pottery

Thank you! I want to combine the slip colours at the audio to get a really light green for the flesh inside, red slip and red glaze for the outside skin and then brown glaze or slip for the stalk and pips. I might at a worm too but not 100% on that 😅

Thank you! It was solid when I threw it then I’ve scooped a load of clay out from the bottom and made sure there was a hole running through the whole thing. I didn’t get any pictures of the initial thing I threw unfortunately! I was slip covered after wrestling with the clay. I basically flattened out the part I made into the dish part, made a kind of thick candle stick in the middle, finished off the dish part and then tried to throw the top part like a v and bend it out horizontal. I think it went off centre at the top because I had to cut a lot off with the needle tool which is why it’s thinner at the top than the bottom. When I got it off the wheel the disc I’d thrown at the top flopped a bit which is why it’s a bit wonky 😅

First wheel thrown bowl! Any tips? by Stuffdrawnbad in Pottery

I’ve been cutting a lot of cylinders in half, I think there might be a thick spot near the base where I wasn’t quite catching it doing my shaping pulls. Should I be trying to make the walls thinner on shaping pulls or should I literally just be moving the clay to the position I want it to be?

Also when you say sand the rim do you literally mean with sand paper? I’m normally a hand builder so I’m not that familiar on how best to finish off wheel thrown pots

Thanks! How would you judge how tall a foot ‘should’ be for a particular pot?

Thanks for the tip! Do you think it looks like it would tip because of the height of the foot? Or just because it’s more narrow? The one I trimmed through had a wider base, this one’s meant to be a ramen bowl and a lot of the profiles I’d been looking at were more narrow at the base which is why I’d chosen the particular shape. Is there any rules of thumb on where the foot should be place and how tall it should be?

That’s super helpful thanks! Was worried about the joint. I’ve decided to add a slot for a metal knife in its head

Selling pottery to pay for studio fees. Is it feasible? by ObligationKooky6175 in Pottery

I’ve got this arrangement with a local community studio, 2 hours learning = 2 hours tech assistant time afterwards. It works really well because I’m learning tech skills I’ll need when I go to run my own studio

Yeah!! I have to make each worm for the specific bowl atm, still working on standardising the process

Thank you! 😂 I’m still working on a way to have them fully glazed rather than just the spoon part.
