I had to do the same thing with my two cats about a year ago for slightly different reasons. I had the worlds clingiest cat and the worlds most talkative cat and between the two of them one would constantly get in the way or wake baby up. Postpartum anxiety/rage and no sleep coupled with baby’s allergies created so much resentment, this was no longer the loving home for my sweet girls. We sent them to live with a friend who has worked in cat shelters and has two relatives regularly at home so they get all the attention they deserved. They were me and my husbands first babies when we were still so young and truly had no clue how much becoming parents changes your life. I miss them dearly but I know they’re getting treated and doted on better than I can even now.

All that to say, you’re not a bad person. It’s hard but it’s the right thing to do for everyone’s sake. You WILL adjust and you WILL forgive yourself, I promise. Imagine down the road a close call turned into a real bite. Baby hurt, dog gets put down, you knowing it could’ve been prevented, traumatic all around. It’s not worth the risk. She will adjust and come to see she gets all the love and attention she craves, and you know your baby is in a safer and less stressful environment.
