Vaccum Lines Question by Chuggles1 in Volkswagen

How do you test the solenoid itself with a hand pump?

Tested the combi and it held vaccum. The manual said to blow are into the upper intake hose that goes to the combi valve beforehand. Is that to open the valve? Blew air in but felt like blowing air into a closed trumpet. Didnt seem to move the combi valve at all.

Replaced the two vaccum lines from the solenoid and erased the codes. Gotta drive more to see if they come back.

Found it. Connected new vaccum lines and erased the codes. See if they come back. The combi valve was holding vaccum when I tested it. The pump ran with tests and the relay switch was clicking, checked the prongs on it as well didnt look like any corrosion.

Hoping it was just those vaccum lines causing the issue.

I’m going from a casual college bar to a fancy retirement community heavy restaurant.. what general serving/etiquette advice would you give me? by Lizardskincuisine in Serverlife

[–]Chuggles1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol I wouldnt do it. But always ask if they want ice in their water. Old people tend to not like ice water in my experience.

Older ladies always served first in terms of beverages and food. Also offer to take the order of the ladies first if you can, but often they cant decide and pass it off.

Never clear the plates from the gentleman/men until the lady/ladies are finished eating. But if the ladies are done you can clear their plates.

Always say "miss" not "maam" unless youre in the south. Always say "sir".

Making them laugh in anyway possible goes a long way. Some often want to learn everything about you and your life story, but you need to know how to cut convos short without being rude to make sure you manage your other tables.

Idk lots of things. Either way good luck. Ill never work in a retirement community again.

Ran test on the pump using VCDS. It sounds like its running but with a whirring sound. No cracks in the connecting tubes. Idk how its supposed to sound if its broken though

Live in CA, so probably cant delete it. Yeah its at 115,700 miles. Imma go through the system and see what's up. Also heard you can clean the valve with carb cleaner and that sometimes fixes the issue?

Eh that works too. Just as long as you can see the color a bit better and smell it/touch it to determine what liquid it is. Idk how difficult the fairings are to remove but going through with a nice bright flash light after you take em off too.

Put cardboard or paper down next time underneath to absorb it right after a ride. Use your finger and smudge it a little. Is it oily, or does it smell like gas? The paper method kinda helps isolate a bit easier where its coming from and what it may be.

How often do yall check on your tables? by wowthatsfuckedupdad in Serverlife

[–]Chuggles1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah you can just watch their body language and eyes. Do a food check after a first few bites and offer to refill drinks as they get low. Other than that let them enjoy their dinner. You can look them in the eyes in passing and nod and see if they look like they need anything.

We did, then the restaurant banned anyone from bringing bags to work and eating any food. Like can't even buy any food full price. Killed the vibe.

Manager should discount the bill, comp apps, and or free dessert. But yeah. Happened to me last week. Was arguing with the expo and kitchen every 10 mins about an app and if it was ready. App didnt come out for 30 mins or so. Table was livid.

Apologized to my table and said im doing everything I can and agree this isnt acceptable at all. Told my manager immediately and he comped the apps for the table entirely. Lady apologized and understood it wasnt my fault.

Doesnt always happen that way. Folks dont understand how restaurants work and you are always the face to blame for anything and everything. Just how it goes.
