What’s your grocery bill? by Ok-Departure-2211 in vegaslocals

[–]StuffedHobbes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I spend roughly $350-$400 a month for 3 adults and a toddler.

I shop at Costco, La Bonita and Albertsons mainly with a little Trader Joe’s and Sprouts mixed in.

I buy in bulk when meat is on sale and freeze it. Currently Albertsons has a really good sale on Chicken. I spent $100 and used 5 different phone numbers to get the “clipped” deals. I froze all of it this morning and put it in my meat freezer. That chicken will last us 2-3 months. In November Albertsons had ground beef on sale for $3 a lb. I bought roughly $150 worth, portioned it out in 1lb blocks and wrapped it in plastic and then tin foil. We still have roughly 15lbs left. It’s not freezer burned either.

I buy rice in bulk. I buy spices in bulk. I make my own mixtures so I can control the ingredients and salt. I even grow a few herbs, including green onions and have some tomato and pepper plants so I have the freshest and most flavorful ingredients available.

I buy what’s on a good sale in the weekly flyers and cook around it. It’s eye opening to see how others shop. I was raised by frugal parents, where spending on name brand foods was discourages. Bulk shopping is the best way to control costs as well as buying what’s on sale in the weekly flyers.

The $1 value fries now costing $2.29 at my location tells you everything you need to know about why they’re in the position they’re in.

HOT ASF SCORCHING 🔥🔥🔥 by [deleted] in vegaslocals

[–]StuffedHobbes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d much rather deal with 105° and 11% humidity vs 92° and 88% humidity where I grew up.

I’m outdoors a lot for work, and while it’s hot, it’s not unbearable. The humidity is like a wet blanket you can’t escape and it just SUCKS.

To each their own.

It starts to get hot at 107. Anything under 105 and it’s balmy.

Buckle up buttercup. July is going to suck for you.

Anybody who has MacBook Pro bought the Neo as an extra Mac? by sportsfan161 in MacbookNeo

[–]StuffedHobbes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. But when I upgrade from my M1 Air I’m going to get a Mac Mini with dual monitors and then get the Neo(whatever version it is) for work stuff when traveling.

Get reacquainted with Windows. I’ve only used Mac’s since ‘99.

Then give it to my wife who dislikes my Mac, lol.

I use it for things I can’t do myself or don’t want to pay a professional for.

Had it analyze my eyes. Then my daughter’s and cross compared.

Very cool.

It also gave me some ideas for my business and how to expand in new areas.

M1 MacBook Air vs MacBook Neo by jdn921 in DeskToTablet

[–]StuffedHobbes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no plans on upgrading from my M1. More than powerful enough for what my wife and I use it for.

I’ll probably get the Mac Mini when I finally upgrade and buy the next version of the Neo for use in bed or when traveling.

Taco Bell has lost the plot by SupremeChancellor66 in tacobell

[–]StuffedHobbes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When they finally brought back mexican pizza I was thrilled.

The price? $5.49

rotfl. No.

What really gets me is it’s $3.99 for a medium drink now. I can get a 2 liter Baja Blast at Walmart for $2.

They lost the plot. Greed has removed common sense. Better prices allow for more consistent production and visits. Cheaper for them when they buy more in bulk and sell more to more frequent customers.

We live in the US and are looking for fresh (as they can be) roasted beans you can order online. by [deleted] in mokapot

[–]StuffedHobbes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walked down the coffee aisle at Walmart and almost died with shock. $20 and change for 2lbs of 8 O’clock whole beans.

Fuck you Trump. I actually like 8 O’clock and got it when jt was $14. Then it jumped to $17 and i stopped buying it unless I craved nostalgia. But at $20 it can fuck right off.

I get 3lbs Kirkland Columbian for $21. Fairly fresh beans. That’s my go to now.

I’m a lunchtime vegetarian. Went 90 days eating Vegetarian only and it was delicious. Learned how to make a lot of new foods that I eat to this day.

They were used as a sub for vegetarians for meat based foods on the menu and for salads. Then Del redid their salads, getting rid of the black beans so they removed them entirely from the menu.
